We are once again the laughing stock of the league. But that’s what the tankers want, right? To be ‘embarrassed night after night so the guys just give up. Cause that’s what is going to happen. And that means no FAs will come here, and anyone good will want out. And all this and we don’t get Bedard? Then what? Cause looking at the WJC, there isn’t another player there that will help and make this worthwhile. Painful to see this flagship franchise in such condition. I don't think it's a case of what the tankers want. More like what they accept as an inevitability...compensated by the clearest shot at more high-end talent to join the young core. While I enjoyed the nobody-expected-it '21 playoff run, I didn't view it as either a true indication of our league status or of linear development. Bergevin was always no Price, no dice, IMO. New management hasn't caused this predicament...that's for certain. Time for a true rebuild, not a re-tool on the fly hoping for bail-out goaltending on a perennial basis. Marty's biggest job is keeping the youngsters hopeful for the future. I've stopped hanging my happiness hat on something over which I have no control.

I've accepted the rebuild process. I know there will be a lot more losses than wins. What I find hard to accept is the way things have played out this week. 16 goals allowed over 2 games is embarrassing. And I agree that this type of result could lead to a "what's the use" kind of attitude.
I want to see this team competing to the final whistle but results like last night will erode their belief.

To me, it's simply a lack of talent. We have Guhle, Kovacevic, Wifi, Harris and Barron on the back end, all rookies, all bound to make mistakes despite their willingness. Trouble is that guys like Savard, Matheson and Edmundson are making the same mistakes. Partly because they're playing way over their pay scale. None of those guys should be taking on top line competition, but they're forced to. Up front we have one line that is very dangerous offensively, but two of the guys are still not experienced enough defensively. The rest of the forwards are a) kids like Slafkovsky, b) adequate journeymen like Dvorak and c) players who should probably be in the minors. That's like 4 (sorry, 5 adding Monahan) guys who are real NHL players or are developing and you want them there. In goal, it's hit and miss. One great game, then another where they let in some weak shots. We have a chance when our goalie plays great and that's never going to win you a Cup (reference: M. Bergevin). There's a ton of optimism, of course, because of the pipeline, as there should be. Adding to it this year will magnify it even more.
