Good for the boys, wins make the long hard journey worthwhile. Good for the fans, this was an entertaining game.
Armia looks like a new man. With the term left on his contract, he is still untradeable. But I am happy for him and it is better to produce for one's team than not. Tip of the hat also for Dadonov, Evans, and Drouin, they are having terrible season but they persisted tonight and got the job done.
The team defense was still spotty but overall the top four d-men played good hockey.
I feel for Slafkovsky right now. He is starting the fourth week of stretch where absolutely nothing is going his way. Ironically, and unfortunately, the timing coincides with the time he could have been away his Slovakian mates at World Juniors. I am a full backer of what Molson embarked on with Gorton and Hughes, but I did not see the logic of a bad team keeping a kid who is marginal at the NHL level around for months on end when there was an easy four week decompression period right there.

I couldn't agree more on Slafkovsky. Keeping him in Montreal when all the other top picks were there made no sense. Let him play against his peers in an important tournament. I think we would have been able to get more of a sense about the type of player he will become by watching perform at important moments.
Instead he is languishing on the bottom 6 while the team gets hammered. To be blunt. I feel management blew it here.

We have to win a few, might as well be fun on a Saturday night.
Pezzetta isn't an NHLer.
I wonder what management will do with the money freed by Drouin and Dadonov contracts ending.

Habs broadcaster describes a Xhekaj backhander from his corner across the middle of the ice to a forward at our RW blue line as a ‘dangerous’ pass. I see the same thing where the Blues had cut off anything along the board as terrific vision and perfect transition execution. Two different viewpoints. The analyst tonight is Sam Cosentino. I liked him overall. Better than most.

Marty get Joel off the ice. This had more to do with getting him the hat trick. They were out there for a one minute 57 second shift ALL because they couldn’t get the puck out of the zone. Sure Armia / Evans may be sorta kinda good defensively, but they scare the bejesus out of me protecting leads. True. Drouin and Dadonov should have been out there, just to shock the Blues. 😇😂. Su-zu-ki Someone, you know, that can get it out and knows what to do with the puck. The best way to protect a one goal lead when the goalie is pulled is to score the empty net goal. Not have guys out there that haven't scored in half a season ... (which tells you how many empty nets they've scored on)

The NHL has awarded the goal to Josh Anderson. The streak continues.

The NHL has awarded the goal to Josh Anderson. The streak continues. Probably after some lobbying by Habs brass. Gotta improve Josh’s stats. JD still gets the assist.

Has anyone noticed we have 10 players whose first name starts with a ‘J’?
From the bureau of insignificant and trivial information.

Au contraire, I would expect that the Habs brass would much rather that Drouin gets the goal and the monkey off his back. Just look at what wonders for confidence getting his first goal did for Armia. Why not hope for the same with Drouin? A little confidence and maybe even a shot of that much needed swagger that gets his trade value a few notches above its current zero status.

The Drouin goal thing doesn't require lobbying. Anderson was the last player to touch the puck before it crossed the line. It only requires a look at the replay.

I was surprised it took so long to change. Usually they catch it right away once they scour over the replay. Anyway, back to Drouin, he can take something positive away in that he really drove that goal. Hopefully he does not fall back into hibernation again.

While the puck was going in without Josh's assistance, Josh clearly touched it last before it crossed the line. I don't expect a player in the spur of the moment to wait and see if his mates dribbler for hist first goal of the season will cross the line - GET THE PUCK IN THE NET! Of course, if Josh had Bedard's awareness he would have let Drouin get his first goal in the hope that it would increase Drouin's trade value so HuGo might bet a 4th rounder for Drouin in March

I agree Slafs should have been at the Juniors and posted as much in early December. My only hope is they asked Slafs and he said he'd rather stay with Le Club. I doubt Slafs would have said that but at least if he did he participated in the decision and he isn't upset with HuGo and Le Club for the lost opportunity. As for the Blues game, I actually thought Slafkovsky played pretty well. He played with better line mates (Josh and Dvo) and showed some awareness, made some good passes. But he still only got 11 minutes.

Valiant win. Gotta feel good for the boys. Thought Suze and Cole were getting their mojo back. This team can compete on most nights if those 2 are on their game. If we get some secondary scoring, as we finally did against the Blues then we will compete and win despite our defensive play. Armia is finally playing like he did in the playoff run. He just needs to keep this up for another month or so and we can easily get a 2nd rounder for him before the trade deadline.

Like taking the last cookie when your youngest brother has just come back from hockey practice and hasn't had any.

If I don't delete the game, I fall asleep on them!
Got to watch it tonight and see if Armia had a rocket implanted in his butt!
It turns out that Armia is another one that can play if HE and only HE wants to. Which makes it difficult to trade him.

For sure, the entire organization from Geoff Molson on down would have been elated for that goal to be Drouin's. But alas Anderson pushed it over the line and given the 4-4 reality at the time, it would have been crazy to trust the puck.
Armia is suddenly inspired. Or maybe it is mostly a confidence thing. But whatever it may be, he is not getting traded between now and the deadline. There is too much term remaining on his contract.
Is there any word on when Monahan could return to action? Hughes must hope it is with a sufficient window before the deadline to get his legs back and start producing decently as he was.
And of course management has to ponder what to do with Edmundson if solid offers surface. If the Rangers or the Oilers are willing to pay a first rounder, then I would retain 50 percent through the 2023-24 season. Because one never knows if the player could be injured next season in the leadup to the 2024 deadline, bird in the hand is worth...

My theory is it was just a ton of bad luck. I thought he played fairly well in quite a few games, but man, the puck would not go in for him. It would hit everything in sight and slide by the post, or it would bounce over his stick just as he had a good chance, and so on and so on. With the new year, his PDO has probably flipped and now pucks will go in off his butt. I'm looking forward to that.

When he is on, as he has been recently and would be during a playoff run, he is a huge asset for many gms. At a cap hit of $3.4 for the next 3 years and only being 29, it is very easy for a gm to stomach if he doesn't work out. I'd certainly prefer Armia and his remaining years than Drouin of Hoffman and their disinterest regardless of the situation, including playoffs.

The Habs said he would be back in two weeks recently (same timeline as Matheson) in their most recent injury update. The dude has to stay healthy from there onwards, for obvious trade value implications. Get the phones going again HuGo!
