Next fight tonight, God willing, I would like to see Edmundson or Anderson beat the crap out of Cousins because I know the yappers (Tkachuk and Bennett) would not dance.
Old man Marc Staal might want to chill out before someone sends him to the quiet room. His tank will be running on empty rather soon and his absence would be a big problem for them going forward, which speaks volumes about the horrible roster construction of Zito's team.

Their teammates can’t possibly respect them. Regardless of what Brady Tkachuk does in his career, I’m not disappointed at passing on him. |

The NHL's history goes back a century, but I have a hard time believing a team has won many games when giving up four power play goals.
The Habs goalies had no chance in this game, thanks to the refs and the poor play of their mates over the first 30-35 minutes.
St. Louis and the coaches must be frustrated not only with the players but also themselves. Everyone needs to learn and improve.

Mati Tkachuk is a no show in the playoffs for however many years he has been in the league. And this is year five for Brady Tkachuk hitting the golf course in April. They are experts in contract negotiations, padding stats, and cultivating their chummy personalities.

No doubt the refs stole the show:
1) I know some disagree but Matheson should have been penalized for the cheap shot. While there is nothing wrong with a reverse hit, that is only legal if you have the puck. It was clearly interference as Maths had not touched the puck. But more importantly, even if he had the puck, the point of contact is Maths shoulder to Staal's head. I wouldn't be surprised if Fla asked the league to look at it.
2) it was clear goaltender interference on Thachuk. He's in the blue paint and prevents Monty from having a shot at the save. Interesting that Lyon made a number of Superman diving saves at the other end because no one was standing in his crease preventing him from launching himself.
2) weak calls on Dach and Josh;
3) perhaps worst call of the game was the non-call on Wifi being run from behind with his numbers clearly shown to the Panther. A penalty by any standard. But what made it worse was the score was 5-0. Let me say that again: 5-0. In a 5 goal game no ref should let any form of cheap shot go, even if it is borderline which this wasn't. That is a recipe for chaos. And surprise the game deteriorated from there.,

Not unhappy with the result as we keep our chances for a top pick in good shape. And it wasn't a 3 point game. And based on what I saw, I don't see Pants making the playoffs. Perhaps the best outcome was Bobs going down. While Lyon looked great at the outset, Pitlick's goal showed he is an AHLer and won't be able to carry Fla if their goalies are hurt for any length if time.

The only thing uglier than the baby blues was the officiating. So many missed calls (Matheson reverse hit, all those Florida intentional knee attempts, the hit from behind on Xhekaj). The game got out of control thanks to the refs. Just wait until the final match between these two in March. The NHL will show up with extra officials, warm both teams to behave, try to pretend to be “proactive” (hahaha), all because their officials did not do their job properly last night.
I don’t blame the results on the refs. The Habs were not very good. They have been playing over their head a bit of late, so this was a bit of a reality check…again. But man, it is frustrating to watch (or worse…play in) a game where you have no clue what the standards are for enforcement or ignoring the rules of the game.
I just wish Molson had presented Marty with a blank check for $25K before the post game presser so he could have unleashed what he no doubt wanted to say. It seemed to work for the Panthers/Maurice. The refs ignored their penalties all game.
Xhekaj leads the NHL in penalty minutes. It has been a long time since the Habs had such a player. And the nice part is he is doing amazingly well for an undrafted rookie. He can play, and he is all heart. When PK talked about playing for the jersey, Xhekaj is a guy who “gets it”. That is fan favourite for a long time material.

Denisenko's hit was way more transparently dirty than Matheson's. What were the underachieving panthers led by their cry baby coach even whining about? The Russian did not answer the call of duty. And for that matter, Bennett and Tkachuk would not drop their gloves with anyone above the lightweight non-fighter category. Lomberg is an annoying rat, but I will give him credit for fighting a bigger man.
Willie, sadly, not only is the Rocket a total mess this season, I do not believe there is much belligerence or even sandpaper down there to call up.

This looks good on Zito. Brunette took over last year after Quenneville had to skulk off. His reward - being replaced by mediocre journeyman coach who keeps getting hired despite the fact that he has never won an effin thing.
Add him to the list with DeBoer and Tortorella. Guys you hire when no one else wants to coach your team.

But they all have the big mouth though. I had to look it up but the Tkachuk family has combined for 28 NHL seasons. Their teams made 1 Western Conference final and 2 second rounds. The entire family has a lot of trouble a) making the playoffs and then b) getting past the first round. In 28 seasons they’ve made it past the first round, 3 times. I’d be chirping them constantly about that. |
