Ouch, watching Drouin not play for 60 minutes was painful. And objectively, it hurt the team, since it meant every line was a constant mix and match of players, which can't be good. I thought the boys were doing well, until the 3d when Tampa put their foot on the gas, and did what good teams do - play just well enough to win. If anything, this season shows how it's the top handful of players that define a team, and that a group of better AHLers can play tolerably well in this league. I don't know if 11 forwards hurt the team. We played well and matched TB for the most part even though we had nowhere near the talent. I think our record when playing the 11/7 roster is pretty good. Not sure why, but I suspect it requires the players to be focused on when they are up and who they are with. Anyway, even if it did hurt the team, it may be part of the tank plan.

The league rule put Marty's stance on public display. Harsher than intended...but it also suggests that missing a meeting isn't the whole story. I suspect a veteran being late to a meeting must be a regular occurrence, just because of regular issues of day to day life. I figure for this to get called out is because it was a regular event. The odds of Drouin sticking around just fell significantly.

Ya, dropped by about a half: from 1% to 0.5% While being late to a meeting when home in Mtl may be excusable with traffic, family and other chores. When you're on the road, the ability to provide a reasonable excuse drops considerably: shopping and getting you hair done don't cut it!

When you're on the road, the ability to provide a reasonable excuse drops considerably: shopping and getting you hair done don't cut it! I always wonder, how much slack do players have, depending on their roles... Drouin as a kid and through his early season as a Hab, was a star player (or at least considered as such), and as such could be given a bit of slack for things like punctuality and the like... whereas now he's trying to reinvent himself as a lesser light skilled player, and I'm not sure he's ready to be the reference for all the minor things that are expected of players. I remember years ago, the Sens had a goalie (black dude who enjoyed the spotlight, name eludes me...) lose his starter's job, and as a backup, suddenly all kinds of little things like being for team meetings weren't being glossed over like they were when he was the starter. I think the human element of a team is the part that's hardest to understand from the outside. Hoffman had a minor renaissance when he got the clout and attention that Caufield had, when he was thrust into a more important PP role. I know some NYR broadcasters were concerned adding Kane and Tarasenko to the NYR might cause issues since 2 guys used to being on #1 PP were getting bumped down and might not appreciate or accept it.

PTH - I believe the Sens goalie you are thinking about is Ray Emery.

PTH - I believe the Sens goalie you are thinking about is Ray Emery. Yes, and he loved to drop the gloves with anyone, including the tough guys. He could handle himself.

All this fuss over a guy not showing up to a meeting on time.
When do they start making a fuss about the guy not showing up to a game in three years??
Maybe, just maybe, that’s why Marty has cut him no slack. His lack of effort on the ice has started to show up off the ice too.

I made a point of specifically watching him the whole shift whenever he was on the ice. He did not have one physical interaction with an opponent all game. You can at least lean on someone now and then. What does he do to earn his pay ? The coaching staff has to see what I am seeing on the ice. Sit his ass in the press box the rest of the year.

I believe Drouin has 19 points in his last 22 games, or something like that. Even over the whole season, he's producing at .57ppg. That's not awesome by any means, but the recent streak since coming back from injury is .86 ppg. That is a pretty good number. The lack of goals was troubling but that last one was a real snipe.

They aren’t paying him to go on a 20 game heater when they have been all but eliminated. They are paying him 5.5 million to get 50-60 points a year.

Hey, I wouldn't have him back. Just pointing out that he's been productive lately.
