Volokhin with a 27 save shutout today. His second in four MHL playoff games so far. He has conceded only 2 goals in those four starts, although they did lose one of those games 2-1 in the shootout. So far so good for recently drafted goalies Fowler and Volokhin. A nice pair in the system.

Lots of guys having good playoffs, when it counts. That assist by Kapanen was instructive. He had a tough shot to make with the dman draped all over him, but he had enough wherewithal to spot his cutting teammate and then executes well with a nice touch pass. Lots of skills in evidence on that assist. He won't be 21 until July (I always like drafting a kid who hasn't yet turned 18 on draft day. They're a little behind in development because they're often a season younger than those drafted who are just a few months older).

Kapanen keeps it going. Another 1+1 Liiga playoff game, including today in the first game against heavily favoured Ilves. Although he did not get the GWG today (he did in the first two games), he did get the equalizer and they won it in OT. Don’t sleep on this kid.

Volokhin had his first big stumble in a while on Tuesday, giving up 4 goals on 14 shots only to get pulled. They lost that game and the series is now tied 1-1. He is human after all.

Eriksson with Nybro’s only goal in a 2-1 loss today. They are now on the brink, down 3-0 in their series.
Really nice effort and finish from the young man. This is against men, and he played over 24 minutes of ice time.

Fowler one of the top goalie finalists. Not bad for a freshman!

Still only 20 years old (turns 21 in July, so a late birthday), went from .49 ppg last year to .67 ppg this season and is posting a scorching 2.0 ppg in 3 playoff games. Right handed centre (something we're loaded up in). Suzuki, Evans, Dach, Beck, all RHC's which is why we need Celebrini, to balance it out a bit.

That would be a great F.U. to all the teams purposely tanking (Chi, Anaheim, S.J.)

Great matchup tomorrow night. Win or lose, they will both qualify for the NCAA tournament as they are top ranked teams.

Both Swedish prospects were in action today in SHL quarter final play, with both teams winning to go up 2-0 in their respective series. Engström played over 16 minutes in his win as Rögle continues to surprise top ranked Farjestad in their series. A huge upset in the making, perhaps? Eriksson was called up to Växjö in the SHL even though his Allsvenskan team was down 3-0 in their series and was technically not yet eliminated. He played just a hair under 15 minutes on the second line and had three shots on goal, but no points in the 2-1 victory today. That was his first SHL playoff game this season and it looks like that is where he will play out the rest of the season. With the Lakers up 2-0 in their quarter final series, they could be playing for a while yet!

More Euro prospect playoff action.
Volokhin made 43 saves and gave up only one goal in a 2-1 OT loss as Yugry goes down 3-1 in their series. One of the goals against was an own goal into an empty net on a delayed penalty. OUCH.
Kapanen scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 OT win for KalPa, who goes up 2-0 in their series. So much for him maintaining his 2.0 ppg pace in the playoffs. Bum! 😜
Fun fact: Kapanen has scored in each of his 4 playoff games so far, with three of those goals being GWGs. He is just 20 in the top men’s league in Finland.

BC (Fowler) 6 BU (Hutson, Tuch) 2
BC are Hockey East champs behind this goalie guy named Fowler. BU will be a #1 seed as well in the NCAA tournament due to their ranking, so they all live to play another day.

Wow... that looks like some fun hockey to watch Hutson has crazy hockey IQ and is sound defensively... man he's quick, he's going to be so fun to watch... As for Fowler, the kid just gets the job done... so confident... Luke Tuch reminds me of a young Gallagher, all he does is go to the greasy areas Below is the game highlights... worth a watch

The Deputy scored his 32nd of the season in a 4-3 OT loss last night. Beck added two more helpers to keep the point streak going.

Hockey East playoffs are great to watch live, especially the semi finals and finals at TD Garden. The arena turns into a total college crowd complete with pep bands for both teams. Collegiate sports are obviously huge in the US and even better when it includes two loaded teams like BC and BU.
Lane Hutson is a treat to watch but the lack of size just has to be a problem, no? I suppose guys like Ryan Ellis, Torey Krug, Brian Rafalski were effective players at the position.
Speaking of college hockey, how about UNB men and Concordia women both with undefeated seasons and a championship?

It's been a good period for Montreal collegiate sports with the University of Montreal winning the Vanier Cup last November. And the Als won the Grey Cup in dramatic fashion. Sports in Montreal isn't a total loss.

20 game point streak reached with his snipe today. A lot of the goals I have seen are very similar. They are usually a wrist shot, often from a bad angle. I hope that can translate to the NHL, and my guess is that it will. There are more than a few guys who are good players in general and have a great wrist shot who make solid careers in the NHL. Caufield is one example, but he has added playmaking to his toolkit. Beck is a good skater and has often been required to be the defensive presence on a line, so I'm quite hopeful he will be our excellent 3C in the future. He should spend 40 games or more in Laval next year (depending on the centre situation on the Habs).

I want Flo to play in laval, not be made into a goon...

Florian will be 20 in June and it's highly unlikely he'll be going back to the OHL as an overager. Habs have to decide if they'll offer him a contract. (probably)

I think they like him and Bobrov calling him a unicorn (??), suggests he is high on their wish list for future players. I only hesitate because of the number of contracts they are limited to and the number of kids arriving all at once. They may have to make tough decisions on Farrell and Kidney, for example, to open up space. A trade where we can package a few kids together makes a lot of sense for us. The acquiring team gets more tosses at the dart board (along with an established player and maybe a high draft pick) and we get a Zegras or Mercer or Holloway type.
