Växjö (favoured) and Rögle (heavy underdog) both won 2-1 in OT to sweep their respective quarter final series 4-0. As a result, they play each other next round so it will be Eriksson vs Engström. Both were held without a point in their wins today.
Kapanen missed a penalty shot, but still bounced back with a pair of assists as KalPa won to take a 3-1 lead in their Liiga series against Ilves.

NCAA regionals start today, and some of our prospects are in action…like this kid with the sweet moves. All these games are single game elimination.

BU (Hutson, Tuch), Denver (Harris), and Minnesota (Pitlick, Mittelstadt) all win and advance to the regional finals. Hutson with the only points with a 1+1 game.
Beck with three helpers as Saginaw take one against Owen Sound. Guindon with a goal in the 6-4 loss.

Kitchener win their first playoff game tonight, 6-3. Mešár with three assists.
Brantford also take game one against Ottawa. The Deputy was without a point but obscure prospect Sobolev had an assist.

Today’s NCAA regional final between BU (Hutson, Tuch) and Minnesota (Pitlick, Mittelstadt) mean that at least two prospects will be going to the Final Four.

Hutson with a goal in the 6-3 BU win. Off to the Final Four for Hutson and Tuch. Pitlick and Mittelstadt with assists in the loss.
Sam Harris with the GWG as Denver also heads to the Final Four.

GWG and 6th point in two playoff games for Beck. Saginaw win and his point streak continues.
Guindon with two assists, on each of Owen Sound’s goals in the 5-2 loss.

NW, I appreciate the updates on the prospects coming down the home stretch. I have followed kids like Beck and Xhekaj closely enough to know they played down the middle for their respective teams. What about Mesar and Guindon? Is it your sense that Guindon has generally played center while Mesar has generally played wing?

Guindon has been 2C for the Attack, while Mešár has bounced a bit between centre and RW, mainly on the second line. He took about 350 faceoffs in the regular season, well below the 1100-1300 numbers that full time centres like Beck and Guindon took.

Fowler leads BC to the Final Four in a thrilling 5-4 OT win. He joins Tuch, Hutson and Harris. With the win, he sets a new NCAA freshie goalie record with 31 wins.
It was a rough start for him and the Eagles, as they spotted Quinnipiac a 2-0 in the first two minutes. As usual, they settled down and won it in the end.

The Deputy opened the scoring and added an assist, but the 67s doubled up the Bulldogs 6-3 to get a split in the two Ottawa games heading to Brantford.

Quinnipiac is one of those Jacques Lemaire teams as I call them. They rarely have anyone who is a scorer but they stifle you with defense. It's always a happy day when they are eliminated. Lemaire was a very good defensive centre, but the guy could score too. It's unfortunate his coaching philosophy leaned toward all out defense

A fast game, skating-focused style of play, with fun and enthusiastic crowds. However, I am with you as I find Quinnipiac quite boring to watch. That being said, they have a 21 year old junior forward Collin Graf from Massachusetts (hey Hughes and Gorton!), who has put up really good offensive numbers for his two seasons with the Bobcats. Many expect a huge bidding war for him to turn pro this off-season. He is considered one of the top NCAA UFAs for this year.

The four Hab prospects in the Frozen Four in Minnesota later this month. I know there are a bunch of “fans” who have wanted to see BU lose so the Habs can sign him early, but I am a huge fan and proponent of top prospects getting exposure to big and pressure-filled games while they are developing. Teach them what it takes to win and how hard it is.

Wasn't it Mathieu Garon who flopped at one high-pressure event (WJC?), and then came back stronger the next time he was in a high-stakes game (Memorial Cup maybe?) ?

Beck is the OHL player of the week. Interesting to note that Mešár actually matched his point production with six assists in two games as well, but Beck also wins a ton of faceoffs and his team won both games. Beck is now on a 22 game point streak. He is in action later today.

No points for Beck on Monday in a 2-1 win over Owen Sound, but he was the only Spirit play at +2. Face off % was 54.5%. Saginaw leads 3-0.

But he did score last night as Saginaw completed the sweep of Owen Sound. That’s all for Guindon. Wonder if the Habs sign him to an ELC or just have him join Laval on an ATO for now. He is a bit of a tweener to me.

Engström snd Rögle take first blood in the battle of the prospects SHL semi final series today, 2-1 in OT over Växjö. No points for Engström and Eriksson was relegated to the 13th forward so he did not see any ice time.
