On Twitter, someone posted a video of a goal scored against the sens. As the opposing player is finishing his shot from the high slot, we see Tkachuk and Tarasenko glide into the picture and are a yard or two too late. I used the word glide because neither one was exerting much energy backchecking. You're not surprised when Tarasenko does that, but the Captain should be providing an example.

The entire top six of the Sens is allergic to backchecking and most of them are positionally unsound in the d-zone. Is it a case of not understanding how to play defense or is it just they don't want to (i.e. they bail out early because they are more concerned with padding their own point totals) or is it both?

Folatre, I think that it is, as you have mentioned before, a coaching issue. No one is holding these guys accountable for lack of effort.

Flipped over to the Toronto game after the 1st period was over. I was treated with the display of the Pens getting dominated by the Leafs 4th line & some nobody named McCann getting his 1st career goal.

Florida kicking the crap out of Edmonton 5-1 with 15 minutes left. Bobrovsky stopping 28 of 29 shots so far and Calvin Pickard is playing like 6 yeaer old of Calvin & Hobbes fame sporting a lovely .853 save percentage. One of of every 7 shots is bulging the twine.
Several GM's had time a few weeks ago to correct their goaltending situations, (Allen or one of Columbus' goalies) and didn't want to pay the going price. Now, those prices have gone up as a few goalies have cratered (Raanta, Skinner) or been injured (Andersen, Copley, Francouz, Woll). Makes one wonder if Hughes and Kekalainen hired a sniper.
Allen, or Primeau if he's the preferred guy, would make decent additions to a team suffering from the Goaltending blues.

Watching the Sens/ Vegas game. Ottawa trailing midway in the 2nd. Since I turned it on Sanderson has been victimized twice. 4-2 Knights.
OMG ' do I ever hate these chrome helmets. I thought the Kings helmets looked bad the gold ones in Vegas look truly awful. Can the league put a stop to this please.😀

So Martin was not just a consultant. Big surprise. I guess the Habs aren't thd only team to bring back former coaches.
I watched the 2nd period of the Sens game last night. They were totally outclassed by Vegas. This road trip has been a disaster so I'm not surprised at this move.
PS: the guys af TSN 1200 need spelling lessons.

That 3rd Ottawa goal was brutal. Batherson was practically standing on the red line when he shot it.
Tkachuk's goal was his 300th point. Thanks again Bergevin.
