I imagine Montembeault starts this one. Columbus will be playing their third game in four nights when they face the Habs. And the Blue Jackets are really disappointing given even the modest expectations for them this season. So one would surmise that perhaps Montreal could feast. However, with three regulation wins through 21 games (and only one by more than a margin of a single goal), realism would suggest that the boys will probably be thrilled to fly back home with two points under any circumstances.

Well, if they win it is a successful road trip. However all we've really proven is we can compete amongst the cellar dwellers. Still got aways to go to match the playoff teams, let alone the contenders.

Yes we do but look at how long the Sens, Rags, Devils, Sabres, Leafs have sucked before they became perennial playoff teams... it's been 2 years and we haven't had a top 3 pick in a draft with exceptional/generational talent for many decades... it will take some time regardless of what we want...

My expectations got run over by an ant. Twice.
The none trade was a blow but managable, the Dach injury decapitated the season.
Thankfully MSL has a strong defensive structure the boys can depend on to keep the games close.
On a personal note, the doctor said the only way to get off the hopium and copium addictions is to cheer for the Laffs...

I'm recording and deleting losses for probably a decade. The last time I watched full games live was '21 and the playoffs. It will be a while before it's safe to watch games without expecting a loss. Maybe a long while. Hope they win this one and Anderson gets a hat trick....

I heard a line that is sooo true...a marriage ends in two ways. Divorce or death. A Habs fan'aticism ONLY ends one way...but preffer not to be tortured until then.

At least it's a different kind of torture and I can dream the result will be different.

Columbus beats the Bruins today. I hear this hissing sound....sort of like a detumescent balloon (that latter word is in honour of a former poster, Beaux Eaux, who used it once and it's stuck with me since, merely because it's an odd word and very descriptive) which describes the Bruins. For those of us too lazy to grab a dictionary (I'm in that category), substitute 'deflating'.
But I digress. Columbus seems to be coming out of their funk just in time to play us. Sigh.

Hopefully CBJ will be cocky with beating the Bruins. But as we discussed when we were humiliated by the Bruins, despite the Bruins strong team play, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how a team with that weak a line-up could have that strong a record. Anyway, looks like Bruins are coming down to earth. aAready 4 losses and only a quarter through the season. Habs record will remain intact for another year as LA has fewest losses and they're already at 3.

Way back when I went to Hamilton games in 2002 one of our prospects was a big guy who couldn't skate worth a damn but was pretty good in front of the net. When you mentioned Micheal McCarron, i was confused because the guy would be in his mid 40s by now, and still playing? WOW! But then I checked the time line and it was Jason Ward. Funny how memory fills in the gaps and is an unreliable witness to the past.

I believe Ward was picked by the Houle regime. The guy Ottawa picked immediately after Ward - Marian Hossa.🙁 I honestly don't understand our "scouts". It's not rocket science to assess players abilities when scouting them. Focus on them and do it over multiple games to set a baseline. Within 5-6 random games one can get 90% probability of what a player abilities are. Of course this is a bit more difficult because you have to project their future abilities but still, you have a baseline. In Wards and McCaron case, they had/have the size/desire but if they are lacking skating AND vision, it's an uphill battle. I remember getting surprised by Plecky. Not big but he had hockey smarts, decent skating and fiesty. He reminded me of 80% Koivu, which was good enough for me. Ward, McCaron, Komisarek ...all had glaring faults that never changed. Yet our "pro" scouts picked them...and threw in barrels of hopium for them. Question still lingers to this day...

Habs have been the 2nd worst team in the East since Oct 30th... CBJ have been the worst Isn't it obvious? We need to find out which us the better team...at digging a deeper hole. I'm trying to find nice things to say, but... Maybe i should try harder to stay off the board because right now, all i see is a 5 year plan turning into a 10 year mediocrity morass.

It's hard to say nice things and the games are getting harder to watch, I'm screaming at the TV more and then I change channels. I feel our team is not as bad as our record, I think the coaching staff have a lot of blame on their shoulder, player assignment, on PP and PK and the way thr D men are paired.

Brendan - Alex - Nick .... the BAN line, it should be banned from being a line the rest of the year

Montreal survived some scary turnovers and an ill-advised pinch by the rookie Struble. Montembeault held down the fort, somehow.
Fast moving game. Not having the special teams play any factor may not be a bad thing for a group who still has not figured how to approach efficiency on the power play or penalty kill.
