About the game: that first period was painful... but also the rest of the game was somewhat entertaining simply because both teams are equally bad. Plenty of mistakes and turnovers to generate interesting events.
I wonder what Montembeault is asking for, and more importantly, for how many years. Over 4 years or over 4M, and I'm out. A "good" deal would be a 3x3M.

Cole is 4th fastest in habs history to 60 career goals That's actually really sad. In the 106 year history of the Montreal Canadiens, we actually haven't had an elite young forward, since games were played in black and white. And I thought I was a glass half empty person . We need to win the lottery this year and pick Celebrini. It's not a franchise year, I don't think, but my guess is Celebrini will end up in the Hischier level (a point per game or slightly better when 24) but who knows, maybe he'll be better than that. Regardless, another centre would be great to round things out. Suzuki can always move to wing if necessary.

Matheson is a horror in the D zone He thinks he can outskate any forechecker and he loves coming around the net from left to right and flying up the ice. Teams know this and often he is angled off or has the puck knocked off his stick. Hughes, as an example, doesn't have Matheson's pure speed, but has much, much better hands and sees the whole ice. The difference between an elite dman and a decent 2nd pair dman. The hockey IQ is only average, too.

We always struggle in the D zone when Chaosevic is on the ice Nice moniker. A gauge I use with rating guys is to notice how often we spend a lot of time in our end. Another is related, watching his passes and if he puts them where his teammate can take it in flight or loses valuable time corralling it. Chaosevic has scored some goals this year and because of that has developed a following, not undeserved from a scoring standpoint. He doesn't pass the first two tests for me. Shea Weber was another guy who did not make good passes to his D partner. He was ok passing to a forward as long as no one was pressuring him, but overall I did not like his passing. Putting him on the PP was dooming the PP because of that. But I digress. I do not have Chaosevic in my long term plans. If he was not a RHD, I'm not even sure he'd be playing. I like Struble better and as JS gets more experience and develops more confidence, the gap will widen. Guhle, Matheson, Xhekaj, Struble, Harris, all better than Kovasevic and Hutson and Engstrom are on the horizon. If Mailloux improves enough by year end, we may see him ahead of Kovacevic at RHD. Barron, Savard, Mailloux, with Reinbacher coming this spring or next year. Long response to "I'm not keen on Kovy"

You guys may have caught this, but the Oilers had 3 suits at the game yesterday. Brad (?) Holland - AGM, their goalie scout and another scout. Anyway, 3 guys who wouldn't normally be at a game in Columbus, together, unless some decisions were about to be made and more information was being gathered. In that respect, Monty outplayed Merzlikins easily and looked pretty good. I would guess he made a reasonable impression on the Edmonton folks. He's not a bad goalie, so if Edmonton has settled on him, the question becomes what comes back and what are they willing to give Monty on a contract since that has to be settled? I'm not sure Habs trade Monty as a pure rental. There just isn't enough return. The addendum to a possible Monty trade is that Habs will have to take back a bad contract and that means a higher return. What is Hughes holding out for? Edmonton's first, which should be in the 20's if Monty give them any kind of goaltending? A pick in the 20's is not that attractive. Holloway? Not proven enough. The Oilers just don't have a lot. I'd take a first rounder, but not this year's. One that's 3 or 4 years away. Gotta roll the dice on luck and hope they end up a lottery pick that season. That's my policy with any team we're dealing with.

In Weber's short stint with the Habs, he was statistically one of the best defensemen to play for the team.
