Malakhov was immensely talented. It is too bad he never managed to bring it on a more regular basis. I always thought if Malakhov had played consistently to his ceiling that he could have been near Norris type guy.
The Islanders are playing well this season. When I look at their roster, they seem solid but far from great. So basically I would have to rate them among the teams in the East exceeding expectations.

Malakhov could definitely have been a great defenseman. He was a physical beast and, unfortunately, an Apple IIe processor. I call the partnership of Malakhov and Stephane Quintal, the Keystone Kops. Their antics in the crease were laughable. Don't ask why both were in the crease.

Watched Islanders game agianst Bruins tonight with an Islanders fan. He asked me who i was rooting for. I looked at him and said "Are you serious? Under no circumstances does a Habs fan root for the Bruins, except maybe in certain circumstances when they're playing the Leafs." i then told him i'm hoping for a shoot out so the Islanders will be spent for tomorrow's game agianst the Habs. And sure enough, a shoot out is was!
So we should have an advantage. Sorokin played against the Bruins so we will get Varlamov. Unfortunately Varlamov is the better goalie this season.
Will Cole and Suze finally break out?

Clear example of the differences between NHL and AHL skill. Struble makes s really nice playon a NZ turnover. He slows at the blue line drawing 2 guys to him and makes a pass to a Hab rushing down the middle and open. Unfortunately that Hab was Mitchell who didn’t collect the pass and the rush fizzled.

Man. Struble is already a 2nd pair guy IMO. Constantly making the right play and executing at a high level.

Habs making a second string goalie look like a worldbeater. Yet again. This team must lead the league in shots off the goalies crest They have almost 20 shots already but nothing truly dangerous. Its doing wonders for Varlamov's save %. |

I know the Islanders played last night, but man the Habs are just dominating these 40 minutes, in particular the second period. Varlamov must be ready to sue for non-support. The skaters in front of him look like bunch of strangers who just met in the parking lot before the puck drop while crushing a few cases of beer and burning a few joints.
