Roy was on an emergency call up, so had to go back once Pearson was cleared to play. And they need a centre right now, thus Condotta gets the nod. I thought Lias Andersson might be the guy, as he has split between centre and the wing and brings a bit more skill to Condotta’s character and grit. Although Condotta did get two apples in Laval’s win last night and sports a 1 goal per game NHL career average. 😝

Cant have two Roys in Montreal. There can only be one “king”

The Bell Centre will be electric tonight. With the Roy intensity giving his team urgency and the depleted Habs' roster playing awful lately, it seems likely to be an Islanders' win.

I don't think I've seen a more selfish player than Matheson
A 3 on 1 and he shoots into the legs of the defender instead of passing down low to the two players that were wide open
And on the PP, he rarely looks to pass to Slafkovsky. He will shoot 9 times out of ten, and it's usually wide and out of the zone

The core three have each potted a goal tonight
3-0 Habs , goals by Suzuki, Caufield and Monahan

Thanks to Montembeault Montreal thwarted a couple good Islanders' chances early. And then the boys just started moving the puck and burying some pretty opportunities. Has the power play finally figured out or is the success a reflection of how disastrously bad New York is killing them?
I like Candotta more than Stephens. Why is Pearson (who management chewed on as a cap dump throw in to get a pick from Van) playing rather than Ylonen? I know Hughes is making part of his calling card how he treats vets with respect, but at some point logic says hey let's do what is logical. Pearson is not tradeable at the deadline because of his excessive AAV for a fourth liner.

Evans -- dumb, dumb, dumb.

That penalty against Evans was garbage, the guy put his stick between Evans arm and body and held him up

Evans doing Evans things ... man he gets dumber by the game.
Isles back in the game. Thank you Jake. I'd like to see the Jake pre-Schifele hit. That was a good player, what we have now is a plug that can be done by anyone

That penalty against Evans was garbage, the guy put his stick between Evans arm and body and held him up Nah man, Evans clearly held his stick on purpose to throw it off him. If he just kept skating, either he'd outrace him, or the aisle would have gotten the penalty. Either way, while short handed, don't put yourself in that situation. He had one thing in his mind there - "I want to be about of the scoring explosion tonight". And ended up doing the e act opposite and blew up the momentum

Struble went to stickhandle to the left ... but forgot the puck and gave up a long breakaway. Luckily he got back and it didn't cost us

I don't know, Willie. The replay looked more decisive than the play in real time. Evans held Dobson's stick. And the refs are not going to swallow the whistle with a breakaway at stake. Maybe in the neutral zone with other bodies back you get away with that one, but not so much there.

How does this team not realize that on most nights if they stay out of the box they will have a chance to win ... and game after game after game they let the opposition back in the game by taking the dumbest of penalties

Great question, Skilly. How a team that has somehow, against the odds, managed to have above league average goaltending this season always stupidly doubles down with unnecessary penalties when they have a bottom five PK kind of boggles the mind. For me, without a doubt, some off-season changes (coaches and/or personnel) are over ripe.

Not watching, but I have seen plays where Xhekaj has been called for a penalty, because. He hasn’t done anything egregious but gets whistled because the ref has dry lips.
Has he deserved the 2 penalties he got today?

By the letter of the rulebook, Xhekaj interfered with Barzal, but anyone who watches a lot of NHL hockey would admit that type of play gets ignored a lot by the refs when a d-man is marking the slot and no real scoring chance was negated.
I must have been checking my daughter's homework because I missed the first penalty he got called for.

I must have been checking my daughter's homework because I missed the first penalty he got called for. He’s got 4 PIM. But the first one you described is exactly the kind of thing he’s being called for all year. He’s bigger and far stronger than most opponents, so any touch of his is greatly exaggerated. Either that or the referees guild has him in their black book.

I don't know why they feel they need to hit like that when up 3-1 ... their situational awareness is non existent. You can't coach that lack of discipline out of players
The good news is floppy will miss at least 2 games
