Then why would Gainey have drafted him if he didn't ike what hwe saw at NCAA? I think Hickey may be a little loose with his facts. I see someone points out that Hickey writes Brian Savage "was traded to the LA Lakers" His book editor needs to be fired.😀 I just find old school writers are prepared to wing it & reluctant to do the most basic fact checking. Nah, it was Dis's recollection that was the problem ... that's on me, buds ... Cheers.

No worries whatsoever, jkr ... all good, man ... I was disappointed with myself for not taking the time to look up the proper reference ... anyway, if you have a chance to read Pat Hickey's book, get it done ... there isn't a member of this board who can't relate to what he writes about ... Cheers.

Also, do you decide to trade a top prospect based on watching him play one game? Nonetheless, defintely going to get the book. Tx for the tip! Well, Bergevin decided to pick Dalton Thrower in 2012 in the 2nd round after seeing him in 1 game where he was very good (had the Gordie Howe hat trick I think). He also had 103 minutes in penalties that year, so Bergie had to like that. I understand he wasn't the next name on Timmins' list but Bergie did see himself as quite the talent scout. Great name, but didn't work out.

When I saw Richer's name on that table I first thought of his two 50 goal seasons sandwiched around a season of 25. He must be the last Hab to hit the 50 goal mark .
I didnt realize what a productive career he had. He scored 421 goals and I believe he was part of Cup teams in 1986 and 1995. He bounced around at the end of his career but hd accomplished a lot.

Great name, but didn't work out. This post prompted me to look at that draft. It was a black hole for MTL with some missed opportunities in the first round and lots of misses afterward. IMO the best player taken was Vasilevskiy at 19 & the steal of the draft was Helkebuyck at 130.

Ya he was fun to watch coming down the wing with the puck knowing he was about to unlooad. Not Guy Lafleur fun but damn close. he and Guy are the only 2 Habs to get 50 on a sewason morew than once: Guy did it 6 times and Richer twice. I wasn't happy when they traded him but we did get Muller in return and he was key to wnning the Cup in 93.

The guy was horribly inconsistent, he had so much talent but was in the Drouin/Kovalev mold of never living up to expectations, and the pressure in Montreal was clearly getting to him. He had issues with depression and had an unstable upbringing, I quickly googled him and saw a story about him driving home alone, crying all the way, after the... 1995 playoffs when he'd won a Stanley Cup. He seems to be doing well now, but he could easily have a headstone in a graveyard.
