Edmonton just needs to get ahead, trap, trap, trap and hang on for dear life. Worked against the Stars and Oettinger......... sometimes.

Edmonton just needs to get ahead, trap, trap, trap and hang on for dear life. Worked against the Stars and Oettinger......... sometimes. I still feel a lot of the series hinges around speed. If Edmonton is as fast as Florida, or faster, the Panthers may have difficulty employing their pressing style. If their backcheckers can't catch up up the Oiler attack, it puts a lot of pressure on the D to defend much more differently than they have so far. They can't move up on the attacker knowing that if they're beaten, the backchecker is there to take the attacker. Florida's backchecking is, IMO, the single greatest factor which has made them look so good. You beat that, and their game takes a substantial hit.

Oilers kill off the first PP - that's now 29 straight kills. They are leading the playoffs with a success rate over 94%.
About halfway into the 1st - it's 1-0 FLA.

Oilers carried the play outshooting Florida 14- 4 but Bobrovsky was strong including breakaway saves on Henrique & Nugent-Hopkins.
1-0 Panthers.

Oilers PP that is running at 35 % plus is now 0 for 2 & Panthers have killed 34 of their last 36 penalties. I wonder if we'll see a lot of PP hoals in this series.

Ceci and Nurse didn't look great on that one. 2-0

Rodrigues unmarked in front & buries it. Florida with only 5 shots but lead 2-0.
2 goals on 5 shots sounds bad but I wouldn't blame Skinner on either goal.

Yeah, Skinner is not the main problem on either goal. But unfortunately the psyche of young goalie in high stress moments can be fragile. So it is hard to say that this thing could not snowball tonight.

Stupid penalty by Bennett.

Maybe the wrong guys have gotten the breakaways for the Oilers but, man, Bobrovsky sure looks dialed-in.

This game reminds me of vintage Roy games where the Habs win only because of #33.

I didnt realize that Forsling was a waiver pickup from Carolina

And I believe Forsling was drafted by the Canucks. Late bloomer, eh.

He did play some games for the Hawks too. Three organizations gave up on him. I was under the impression that he was a Florida lifer.

Yikes. That was Barkov giving away that last chance.

Yeah, the guy blossomed. He is an average sized (barely) for an NHL d-man, but I think once the game slowed down for him, then his quickness and IQ (how to break up plays and how to jump into the rush) have come to the forefront.

Just turned on the game & I see Foegele tossed for kneeing. And it's 10 minutes in and Edmonton doesn't have a shot yet.
Ekman Larsson screws the PP up by getting a penalty. And now Ekholm scores a shortie on a stoppable shot - their 1st shot of the game.
Edit: Ekholm's goal was 4 on 4, not shorthanded.

Reckless play by Foegele.
Florida is playing a lot crisper and faster than game one. I hope Edmonton can get the 2-0 goal this period because it really feels like the Panthers are coming.

The penalties in the first period took a lot of flow out of the game. Additionally both teams play very different when they are leading vs. trailing.

Blown call. That should've been a penalty and a 2 man advantage for the better part of 2 min.

Panthers PP looking really anemic.
And the shot clock looks like the opposite of game one.

It will not be easy, but man the Oilers need to push back. Aside from the 4v4 goal and a couple or three posts on the power play, Edmonton is simply not generating anything.

They showed the playoff records of the teams when tied after 2 periods.
I'm not surprised to see FLA at 4-1 but I'm very surprised to see the Oilers with their talent at 0-4.

Florida was simply the better team tonight. Thus, for an Oilers victory, they needed their power play to deliver (it didn't) and for Skinner to play like Bobrovsky did in game one (he didn't).

The only thing that is working well for Edmonton is their PK. It's now at 34 penalty kills in a row.
