This raises the buy out option. Demidov’s worth nothing to SKA. He doesn’t generate ticket interest because he’s not playing. He’s leaving next March unless he’s in Ukraine or a Gulag. But Russian oligarchs understand assets and money. The option for a transfer and accompanying fee is there. The question is how much. I’d be expecting some action along those lines. The question is how long will it take and whose patience will wear out first.

Sounds like a good story line but gotta question its reliability. Story doesn't even refer to "sources", just what he's "heard". LOL!
What I know is SKA is currently first in their division and have a lot of vets. So do you play a teenager who has announced he's leaving at the end of the year or do you go with your core, particularly when they are winning? Let me know when SKA starts losing and doesn't play DemiGod.
Regardless of why he's not playing, i'd get him over here ASAP so we control our asset and future!

Do i believe the story?
I had ONE interaction with a fairly large Russian company as a technical consultant for a Canadian multibillion dollar company looking to buy in and extend their business there.
I have no idea how representitive that company was of the general business atmosphere...but...that was all i needed to confirm everything negative i ever heard in doing business in Russia.
So yes, I believe they would use Mafia tactics.

The first 99 Rules dealing with corruption is...don't deal in corruption. As a GM, I'd advise Demidov to keep his head down and keep his eyes open. It's only months and they will evaporate faster then he thinks.

Great article but it doesn't change a thing about the risk he faces in Putinland. At a whim, he can be conscripted.
And of course, keep his mouth shut unless he wants to get friendly with open windows.
I like the "possession beats whining" and have him safe in Canada. He should be in an airplane and waiting for the seconds to pass by on his final day of the contract.

We need more bodies after this spate of injuries and the increased sweater sales should more than cover the cost. Here's the plan. 1) Find someone on the Habs management team who can really hold their liquor 2) fly them to St. Petersberg to sit down with Rotenberg, have a vodka shot contest and arrive at a price. 3) Bring Ivan home. Who's up for that?
