Glad to see him signed, was hoping for longer... could see them moving him up to a forward position after this year if there is a logjam on D still...

For ordinary people like us that’s 5 years salary. For those who work hard at Costco it’s 10 years. It’s only two years but after that he will get paid whatever he deserves. Great signing.

This is fantastic.
I'm mostly a grown man, give or take, but i giddy about watching X and Mailman hit their stride as a pair.
Remember what Weber and Chiarot did? This pair is even meaner, bigger, better skating, better combined offense and they are ours for the next 15 years.
Sure, Hutson can shimmy and shake but these two...will make opponents pee their pants.

Mailloux and X could be paired if Hutson Reinbacher click...
Guhle-?? Hutson-Reinbacher X-mailman
Either Rein or Mailman could move up with Guhle

It doesn’t say if this is a one way or two way contract. Does anyone know? I assume it’s a one way

It would've been mentioned if it's a two-way contract. The press release doesn't mentioned it, so it's safe to say that it's a one-way contract.

So, both the remaining RFAs get their two year deals announced on the same day. About $5.5M in real cap space left with all guys signed now. They have 46 of 50 contract spots used too.
I like both deals as good “show me” bridge deals. Both defenders need to show different things, but this gives them time to see if they are worth more money and what should be a competitive roster spot down the road.

This deal is fine. Management probably wants to see the Sheriff play 70+ games in consecutive seasons before figuring out what the money in a long-term will look like with him.
I would have liked to go longer now because I think Xhekaj is going to prove to be a keeper, so getting him on a team-friendly deal through age 28 or 30 seemed strategically worthwhile.
I think if there is long-term common ground with Guhle, then a deal probably gets announced this summer. However, perhaps for some of the same reasons Xhekaj only got two years, it would not surprise me if it turns out to be a short contract for Guhle too.

These days you can go to Costco with $500k and fill up three shopping carts. One with toilet paper and paper towels. Hot dogs at $1.50 still a good deal ($1.62us) after taxes. (Gordie Howe earned $50k in his best year in Detroit). At my age I’m starting to mumble like Biden.

The average store sells 250 million a year. About 350 to 450 employees per store.
You still think 500k is too much?
Anyway...I tried to buy land for a gas station as a joint venture. Nope. Tried a solar panel farm on their roof. Nope. I get the need to control the gas stations but the solar farm was a bit of a head scratcher. They don't have the expertise. Company philosophy is they either own it or don't want it. It's not that they don't like the profits, they just don't trust third parties. Even pretty ones like me!

This is why I NEVER saw BB as a pro manager. Basically a good old boy who sold and lived on his connection to league rather then a real, hard core pro manager.

When the irate customers were wanting to speak to the manager I'd tell them to go to the garden section and look for the guy hiding behind the plant.

This is why I NEVER saw BB as a pro manager. Basically a good old boy who sold and lived on his connection to league rather then a real, hard core pro manager. Crazy. I had more managerial experience than Bergie. It was pretty obvious from the start that he wasn't the sharpest stick. Hiring buddies, passing on a great defense coach to hire a schmuck like Daigneault. Hiring Lefebvre, who literally had the greatest lessons from losing coaches that one could ever hope for and calling him a star coach in the making. Five missed playoffs in 6 years and the one year they made it was a gift, in which they promptly went out in one round. I could go on and on and on, but we've heard it all before. I'm still flabbergasted on why Molson held onto him as long as he did. He had to see the problems so there had to be other pressure he felt that he couldn't disclose.

It's not like that's throw away money either. Those two (Arber at least) should do well over their careers, but right now that million dollar salary gets cut almost in half by taxes, then there's agent fees, and numerous other costs, so a car in the $100,000 range (assuming it's an AMG) cuts into their incomes. Great kids and a prime reason why Hughes hangs up the phone when other GM's call about Xhekaj.

This evening my son and I were running around doing some errands in anticipation of the start of school and the upcoming puck season, and he was watching/listening to the latest episode of Spittin' Chiclets and he was like hey Dad they've got a cool one hour interview with The Sheriff.
I plan to check it out after work tomorrow.

Their take on the Laine trade makes total sense.
Yeah, very cool interview with Xhekaj. That kid just oozes character and authenticity. He had to do it the hard way. I loved the part where he started talking about his little brother and said Florian plays hockey way more pissed off than he does.
A lot of guys around the conference who are going to have to play the Sheriff and the Deputy three or four times per season (not to mention playoff battles) for the next 8-10 years will decide in favor of refining their 'survival' skills -- no dangling on zone entries, no touching the Habs goalies, curiously turning out of impending corner crashes, etc.
