Well, I hate to rain on our parade but.....beginning with the 2021-22 season Laine has played in 46, 56, 55 & 18 games. The operation presumable has fixed the latter but I wonder if expecting 70+ games is too optimistic? If it turns out to be 50 some games we take a hit on the no. of goals. Since he's big fans my expect him to play a 'tough' game which may not be a good thing. Just saying. Which is why I like many others really like the second rounder Hughes got as well. My 2 cents from an old guy. Fair enough. Bear in mind the year he played 46 games, the schedule was only 56 games long. Another thing to keep in mind is that during his time in Winnipeg, in his first 4 years, he played 305 out of 317 possible games. His fourth season was a shortened 71 games because of Covid. He played 68 of those 71 and a full 82 games of the previous 2 seasons. In his fifth season, he played only one game for the Jets before being traded to Columbus. He scored a goal and had 2 assists in that 1 game. Then he went to Columbus, where they didn't have any quality centres. Their best centre was Boone Jenner. Laine is not a play driver. He's a finisher. He's ok at a lot of the other stuff in the game, but has an elite release and shot. He needs a quality play creating centre, preferably one who is right handed. Enter Kirby Dach and Nick Suzuki. Even in the 2021-23 seasons where he only played 111 games, he had 108 points, almost a ppg. My point is that he probably had some real issues not having the puck provided to him at opportune times and his play suffered. Then the confidence wanes, he gets depressed and so on. He hasn't scored 30 goals since 2018-19 not because he's lost his touch, but because he hasn't played enough games, either due to shortened seasons or to injuries or mental health challenges. I suspect HuGo and MSL looked at these same stats and in talking with him, felt the risk was worthwhile. There's still a risk, of course, but I'm giving him a 90% probability of success because of the vastly different environment he will be in.

Not sure I see Patty's fiancee as an asset. She seems a hyper social media type. While that may work for her, I think it is counter-productive for someone as fragile as Patty. We've seen this movie before with Angela Price As a Habs fan, I signed up to a hockey team winning CUPS...NOT a version of Dr Phil and The Troubled Athlete. I really don't want to delve into or make his personal life part of my hockey discussion, but here we are. Neither should the media delve into it nor should he discuss his private life in public. I'm sure that Hughes already aware and on top of it. I despise all the media these days, but them discussing and speculating about Laines mental health would be beyond obscene. Guaranteed circus run by bobble head media clowns. Hopefully his great play is the only thing we are going to care about and discuss. I agree entirely on the harms of social media. Most counselors will tell people with mental health issues to stay away - there's too much hate, it will bring you down. The problem is many people can't or won't, and they pay a price. Patty and his finacee should let Patty focus on hockey and not engage with social media as it invites the hate. Posting on social media bacame Angela Price's identity and it did not help Carey and his struggles. It is very much a question of maturity and learning to stop saying "Look at me/us!"

I have faith in the management team and the things they will do to help Patty succeed, a win for him is a win for the team. I also think to room in Columbus wasn't very good, it was an old school mentality... the Habs room is a reflection of the coach and I think it is exactly what Laine needs.

But then again sometimes chance intervenes and upsets the forgoing logic. I really do hope you are right and Laine plays 70+ games and scores 40 goals but I remain in a wait and see mindset until the season plays out. Since I'm one of the older guys here I guess I'm more skeptical than most.

Laine is hitting his prime and it's totally depended on his state of mind. Remember Kovalev? When he felt like, he was a monster of a player. Let's see....

Let's be honest. Every player is a crap shoot. These players are not robots so you can't accurately predict the outcome. You can have an idea but all it takes is an injury to change it. I'm hoping for a ppg player.

'Loud Mouthed schnook' is still a favourite expression of mine. To Miss Prissy, "I don't need your love to keep me warm, I've got my bandages to keep me warm". I grew up on Looney Tunes, Bugs, Sylvester, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam and Taz.
Chuckle, "Open Sasparilla?", "I paid my four bits to see the high divin' act and I'm a gonna see the high divin' act". Could go on a long time, but I'd be the only one enjoying it.
You need to get some geezers together over a few jugs of beer and recite Looney tunes lines. If we didn't die of laughter.

Homework, what homework? Tx guys!!!!

I'm losing track of what I have to control. I must say that the stent is a marvel of medical advancements. My wife was in the medical field and controls the medication. If she leaves me, I'm walking straight into a cemetery and jumping into the first hole I find... There is nothing major, just "a little bit here and there". Only a few months ago, I had to clear out the plant and put in some heavy duty work. I tried to hire some temps and the first thing they spewed "this is steel and it's heavy". Out the door they went and my wife and did it. 6 months to clear out an entire factory through the middle of winter. 150 tons of steel, 50 pieces of heavy machinery, several truck loads of raw stock, dozen 40 yarders of old product...either by hand or lift truck and LOTS of cursing. If I dare complain about old age...she puts me back in my place with "You think you're special? You're immune to aging?" Grrrr...too late to trade her in...

I remember coming home for lunch when I was in elementary school and watching Hercules while having lunch, it made the afternoon in school better I remember those days ... another noontime show I liked from that era was, " Thierry la Fronde" (Terry the Sling) ... he was like the French Robin Hood ... Patrik Laine, eh ... well, I'm expecting big things from this guy ... I want to see what all the hype is about ... he said he likes the attention, the lights, yada-yada-yada ... but, those lights can work against you, too ... there's no place to hide when things go wrong, and those lights will find you ... I want the guy to succeed, though ... he seems reinvigorated and pumped to play in Montreal ... good luck to him ... Cheers.
