I saw that clip about the locker room earlier and it goes on for a few seconds longer than in this clip. Suzuki (identified by the poster, but I wasn't sure) comes in, shakes hands, sits down and starts checking out sticks. It looks like Laine is trying to start a conversation but there's no interaction between the two. It just seemed a lot more awkward than I would expect for a welcome. Maybe they just acted it out for the videographer.

My thoughts exactly when i watched the video. Nick seems super awkward for a captain welcoming a new player. But I think Nick is not really the extrovert. He leads by example on the ice and stays out of trouble off the ice. Anyway, hopefully Patty didn't feel like he was getting the cold shoulder - these players can be so sensitive

If it's the first, big time fail. If it's subsequent, no biggie.

Suzuki is 24, long past the pimply awkward stage. As captain he needs to grab Hughes credit card and go out for a steak dinner, a beer or two and establish a relationship. THAT is part of how you establish a working relationship.
