We have a thread for the WHL and NCAA guys, but here is one for some of the others. Yannick Weber from the Kitchener Rangers was OHL Player of the week for his 8 points in three games...not bad for a blueliner from Switzerland playing junior hockey a long way from home! He only had one assist in tonight's game, but his team is leading their division and also host of the Memorial Cup, so he will be seeing hockey in May as well as in Dec/Jan for his last cut at the World Juniors. www.ontariohockeyleague.com/hm/inside.php?id=4220

Weber gets the OHL defender of the month with 19 points in 11 games. The 19 year old Swiss defender is having a good start with the strong Kitchener Rangers in the OHL, who know they already have a berth in the Memorial Cup. More and more defensive prospects with some offensive capabilities and some puck moving skills. Not a bad thing to accumulate these days methinks. www.ontariohockeyleague.com/news/?id=4287

Aubin and Beauregard have three point nights (2-1) as the Cyclones explode for a 8-1 win tonight. Beauregard had an incredible 12 shots on night in the game. He is on an AHL contract and playing the ECHL, but is showing that scoring punch at times that helped him lead the Q in goals last year and just come up short on the scoring title.

Update on how some of the others are doing (up to Nov 13th):
QMJHL - Fortier 23gp 8g 7a 15pts +1
OHL - Subban 18gp 5g 13a 18pts +4 (11th in OHL for D scoring) OHL - Weber 19gp 11g 14a 25pts +11 (3rd in OHL for D scoring)
USHL - Conboy 13gp 4g 7a 11pts +5 58pim (tied for 15th in league scoring and 5th on his first place team...a big body who plays physical and chips in with some points) USHL - Kishel 10gp 1g 1a 2pts -3 (undersized Dman)

Cyclones win 5-1 tonight to make it two nights in a row with the same score and move into first in their division. Desjardins (AHL contract) was in net and gets his fourth win. He is also tied for the league lead with 2 SO's.
Thomas Beauregard (AHL) 12gp 7g 5a 12pts David Desharnais (AHL) 12gp 7g 4a 11pts +4 Mathieu Aubin 11gp 5g 6a 11pts +4
The two younger guys were signed this season by Hamilton after a successful QMJHL junior career laden with points. Aubin makes three the number of ex-Q big scorers to be playing for our ECHL farm team this season, with Aubin being a bit of a surprise for not making the Bulldogs out of camp. He will need to light it up down in the ECHL a la Urquhart to get back up, as his competition is heating up with the other two wanting to make a mark as well.

Cincy won again last night with David Desharnais (AHL contract) getting two more points.
He now has 7g 12a 19pts in 14 games to be only one point behind the ECHL scoring leader at this early point in the season. Pretty good rookie campaign. He is also +14 which is also great to see.
Jon Gleed and Jimmy Bonneau were both assigned to Cincy from Hamilton.

Weber with two points (1g 1a) tonight to move into second in OHL D scoring and 25th overall.
Bonneau with a helper tonight in Cincy, a rare point for the big bruiser at any level of play.
Desharnais with three helpers tonight in a Cincy loss where they finally had their long point streak snapped. Aubin and Beauregard seem to be falling behind, and this should be more worrisome for Aubin on a second year NHL contract compared to Beauregard on a first year AHL contract. Desharnais' 22 points is only 2 off the league scoring leader. Hmm, sounds familiar as he did the same in the Q last season too.

No need to wonder any more Don, Desharnais was recalled to Hamilton today as it appears as though Grabovski will be out a while with a high ankle sprain (saw the play, he came back and played but then left in the 3rd) but the high ankel sprain is unofficial so far.

Let's hope he can relay his ECHL success into the AHL. We badly need a natural scorer.

Yeah Dan, one assist in five games and he has been sent back down. Aubin is up to see how he does. He is a lot bigger than Desharnais so that might work in his favour. Aubin sure has stalled a bit, so he probably should take advantage of this chance on a team that is really struggling to score and to win.

Andre Benoit, a free agent defenseman that we signed out of junior a few years back has been named to Canada's Spengler Cup team. He took a break from Hamilton and has been doing quite well in the sm-liiga in Finland. He gets to help defend Cujo's net over the holidays in Switzerland at a very entertaining holiday fixture.
I believe Sportsnet covers the games, so you can check him out in between WJC games on TSN and Habs on RDS.

David Desharnais seems to have found his scoring touch after his brief cup of coffee in the AHL, leading the Cincy Cyclones to back to back wins over the last two nights. He had six points in the process and two first stars to show for his weekend so far. 3+1 last night and 1+1 tonight. Desjardins got a win and Urquhart and Beauregard also got points over the two game stretch.

Benoit and the boys in red now play Perezhogin and Salavat for the mug on Monday. Check it out on Sportsnet.

Cincy wins 3-1 on New Year's Eve to win their eighth straight. Entering 2008 they are first in their division, second overall in the ECHL, Desjardins is the top ranked goalie in terms of gaa (and he has a fight!!) and he also leads with 3 SO's. David Desharnais is 10th in league scoring only 10 points behind the league leader. Seems like a good place for our spill over minor leaguers to earn their keep.

Cincy won a wild one last night 8-6. Rookie Thomas Beauregard (AHL contract) had a big night with five point including the hattrick. He is now in 14th in league scoring and his fellow rookie David Desharnais (AHL contract) is 8th but only a few points from the top five. I am sure both are trying to get noticed by the Hamilton brass for a possible future roster spot.
Cincy are 9-0-1 in their last 10, in first place in their division, and they sport the second best record in the entire ECHL. They lead the league in both goals for per game and lowest goals against per game. Pretty good first half for the second year team!!

There were several fomer Hamilton Bulldogs in the Spengler Cup this year. Spengler Cup lineups dotted with former Bulldogs players
Garry McKay The Hamilton Spectator (Dec 29, 2007)
The Hamilton Bulldogs, or at least former Dogs, are having a big impact at the Spengler Cup hockey tournament in Davos, Switzerland.
Nine former Dogs are playing for five teams in the tournament.
Andre Benoit, who was part of the Dogs' run to the Calder Cup championship last season, is playing for Canada and scored a big goal in their 6-2 win over the host Davos club this week. He's not the only former Bulldog defenceman playing for Canada.
Millgrove Danny Syvret, who played for Hamilton in 2005-2006, was loaned by the Edmonton Oilers from their American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield to play on the Canadian team.
Other former Bulldogs in the tournament include: Dan LaCouture (1997-2000) and Michel Riesen (1998-2001) who are with Davos; Alex Pisa (2001-2003) who is playing for HC Moller Pardubice; Sven Butenschon (02-03) with Adler Mannheim; and Oleg Tverdovsky (1997-98), Alexander Perezhogin (2003-2006), and Vladimir Vorobiev (1998-00) who are with HC Salavat Yulaev Ufa.
Team Canada puts its 2-0 record on the line today against Salavat Yulaev UFA.gMcKay@thespec.com www.thespec.com/article/302421

Weber with three points in two games over the last two nights, so he has picked up where he left off with Kitchener since returning from the WJC where he had a great tournament. His team will be in the Memorial Cup as hosts and have firmed up their team with the acquisition of Mason in nets, also hot off his MVP performance in the Czech Republic.

Cyclones de Cincinnati win their 10th in a row tonight, 3-2 on the back of two goals (including GWG) from Cory Urquhart. They are second in the league in points and in first in their division. Rookie David Desharnais is third in league scoring, tops for rookie points, and was named to the all-star game earlier this year. Thomas Beauregard is 19th in league scoring as a rookie as well. Our two AHL contract forwards fresh out of the Q are doing well. Desjardins leads the league in shutouts and is third in gaa and save %.
Urquhart, Gleed and Bonneau are all back in Cincy now that all hands are on deck in Hamilton with every player healthy once again. In fact, the Dogs had to sit five guys tonight in their loss to the Marlies.

Desjardins with another shutout, Urquhart with 3 helpers, Desharnais with 2 helpers, and Bonneau with two scraps!!

Cincy and David Desharnais could make ECHL history tonight.
If Cincy win their 14 straight, they will tie an ECHL record.
If David gets an assist, he will tie the ECHL record of 17 straight games with an assist. Pretty good work for a rookie regardless of what happens.
If Cincy win and Trenton loses in regulation or OT, Cincy clinches a playoff spot at the earliest point in its history.
Go Cincy and Desharnais!!
