Let me get this straight...we haven't scored a single goal on the PP and we leave Mailman on the bench? Did I miss something? The most offensive defenseman we have on the ice and he's not on the first PP?

The PP troubles are nothing new. It's been going on for years and nothing is ever done to address it.
It holds the team back and costs them points but it seems nothing is done about it.

It's only preseason, but I'm going to say it ... this team is horrible. There is absolutely no cohesion, not even on the top line. Special teams is 90% about working hard, something this team has not shown they are willing to do. But its preseason, the question is, does this team have a switch they just turn on in the regular season?

Even with the top lines on the ice they look underwhelming. I haven't been impressed with anyone really. As for that magic switch, it does not exist. |

Your goalie is your best penalty killer and from what I’ve seen so far, Montembeault has become a concern. Especially since Primeau hasn’t looked good either. Playing meaningful games in March relies on good goaltending. If this continues into the season, we’re cooked. Bad goaltending kills teams.

I'm old and forgetful...remind me again what experience MSL had as a coach before he was crowned Habs head coach? Was there even a peewee team he coached? Beer league? Anything?
Because right now, it looks like the Habs are running around like a pond hockey team...literally.

Toe Blake couldn’t teach these guys how to score on the pp. you can’t take a Volkswagen and tune it up to win a F1 race. Ottawa is not the powerhouse they look like against the Hab’s. |

It is tough when the special teams are, at a minimum, -2 every game. And on a night when Evans and Dvorak are the top two centers, it is hard to generate genuine chances. Plus, Montembeault has been inconsistent, making a handful a great saves but letting in a couple of soft ones.

Yeah, the power play has actually looked okay in the sense of what they are doing (passing quickly, pucks on net, looking backdoor) makes sense; the problem is with this group tonight there are no natural snipers dressed. But the special teams are becoming a real shadow hanging over the season. I'll reserve judgement until the regular season so it's still sunny in my world for now. |

I, for one, would like a team that scores goals, especially on the PP. just averaging 3 goals a game can cover up a lot of goaltending issues too. Why do we always look at it in reverse ? |
