The more things change, the more they remain the same. The big four in the Atlantic do not appear inclined to back up one inch. It is early, but the smart money would have the four up-and-comers missing the playoffs.

Deslauriers was not in the lineup last night. Montour did not fight anyone. I think in the scrum that ensued, Konecny and Gourde ended up dropping the gloves.
But sure a kid like Michkov will attract attention, some of it physical and greasy. So the Flyers should be prepared for it and make the other team feel like a bullseye could, if necessary, be on the back of their skilled guys.

Having serious emotional mismanagement issues, I would be coming in with a vicious elbow with the full intent to injure.
Nothing can beat the constant reminder of a broken jaw. Of course being a nice guy, mindful of the pain my fellow man can go through, I would send him a straw to eat his food.
That is also why I had zero issues, nee, enjoyment with X leveling Stutzle.
One can paint flowery words on a Jumbotron, but hockey is a hard physical sport. These "hockey play accidents" need special facial reconstruction education to keep from happening.

That's hardly overwhelming and they haven't looked dominating. It's a long season, with slumps for others yet to come. |

How about the Flames, eh. 11 points in 6 games is nothing to dismiss out of hand, though granted their schedule in the next 3-4 weeks looks rather formidable. I do not think they are 'for real' but there is no denying that, generally speaking, teams that bank a crazy percentage of points in October are unlikely to be bottom ten in the league when all is spoken and done.
In 2023-24, 82 points was necessary to avoid a bottom 10 finish. In 2022-23, 82 points was necessary to escape the bottom 10. In 2021-22, only 77 points were required to stay out of the bottom 10.
No one thinks Calgary is a contender. And few would say this hot start makes them 'likely' to make the playoffs, in particular since as they regress to the mean Conroy will have pressure on him to recoup assets for guys like Kuzmenko, Mantha, and Andersson.
But man, it would be convenient if they are good enough in the first half of the season and Wolf can stay solid all season, so that the Flames finish in the 11-13 from the cellar range.

Berube is not in any danger. It was inevitably going to come to this. He wants to change their mindset and it'll take a while to do that. KInd of like high school where your class has just run a teacher out of town, and the new guy comes in and he's totally different. He'll get tested of course, and then everyone learns the consequences are for real.
