Arpon Basu is playing the spin master role in the second intermission, rationalizing that the Habs' league worst defensive metrics (they would be 0-5 if Montembeault was playing like a league-average goalie) are question of 'rust' given the odd preseason Montreal navigated. Okay...so other teams are playing big boy hockey out of the gate despite the fact that no one plays their main guys much in the preseason...Sounds plausible, not.

I don't have a package so I cant always watch. I just checked the comments and they are pretty damning. Everyone seems royally ticked.
But when I check the score I see that they are only down 2-1. What's up?

The Penquin, Murder in the Building...anything but hockey torture.

I do not know him, obviously. But I have always thought, even back in his Minnesota days, that Fiala seems like a card-carrying pr*ck.

This team could use Pezzetta’s energy. Time for someone to sit.

When you play with no structure (and without a superior talent edge) in the NHL, this is what you get. Management and St. Louis are going to have some soul searching to do because it is hard to explain why Montembeault has saved more high quality chances against than any goalie in the league and yet they are losing on home ice to teams like the Penguins and Kings.

Nothing like a trip to Montreal to turn your road trip around. Absolutely brutal. MSL should be on the hottest because this team is going nowhere fast

You people are soooo greedy... Why can't you think of this as a charity to fellow teams and fans? We had two wins, they had none, now we shared our good fortune by letting them win one too. Think of all the happiness we brought them. Think of all the cheering they will heap upon us when we draft bottom 5. Just sad to see so much greed and sadness! Anybody see where Marty went? I have a little project I've been working on... Attachments:

Yup. That was an embarrassment. Better team won and we had to rely on Monty to keep it respectable against. avery weak team. We are not good at either end of the ice. Do we have any coaches? Only bright spot was Lane, again. The guy is a natural. Over 30 minutes no problem. Anyone notice him on the 1st PP unit, he did his duty and dropped it back to Nick, BUT one time he did the fake drop and gained the zone - easy peasy. Who knew?

I get it that the clock is ticking on the Kapanen stay-or-go decision and thus they need to see him play. And I get it that Heinemann ripped home a couple of nice goals in the young season. And I also get it that Anderson and Gallagher have been been very engaged and creating chances. Plus, I understand that it hard to bench guys on the PK1 (Evans and Armia) and that maybe management is holding out some hope that Dvorak stops being so bad so he can be traded in a few months. But man this team looks uninspired and sluggish. A hell-raiser on the fourth line makes a whole lot of sense.
And if Matheson is out for the time being, call up Mailloux and play him. And also start a rotation where Hutson, Barron, Struble, and Xhekaj get a small dose of load management.

And if Matheson is out for the time being, call up Mailloux and play him. And also start a rotation where Hutson, Barron, Struble, and Xhekaj get a small dose of load management. So Marty can destroy his confidence? This is Mailmans last 5 years... 2019-20....4 games 2020-21....19 games 2021-22....12 games Then he plays full time 2022-23 59 games 25 goals and 28 assists for London Knights 2023-24 72 games 14 goals and 33 assists for Laval Clearly he's an offensive beast that needs time to develop his overall game. He lost a huge chunk of development over 3 years. So bring him up? How many power play minutes did Marty play Mailman in 8 preseason games? A couple? Did you see the hesitation and overthinking in Mailmans game when he was up for those 8 games? Clearly he was playing scared of making mistakes. I actually couldn't believe how many times he fired the puck into the offensive zone rather then take it in and potentially get caught. He was sent down to the AHL and in the first game turns back into a beast again...2 goals, 2 assists. I think there is an issue here with Mailman and Marty. Either Marty has read him the riot act that seems not to apply to anyone else OR Mailman is scared of Marty and Hughes. There is something going on with Mailmans confidence...and I don't trust Marty anymore.
