Glad to hear it's at least two players. As one player ain't going to change this lot. I do think we need more grit on our botoom 6. The rookies and the QuadSquad don't scare no one and can't score - not a good combination. Bottom 6 should be easier to get than top 6. Go HuGo!

I have a hard time seeing Savard being traded, with Orville injured and Logan in Laval, we are short on Right D and have a surplus on Left D.
Matheson would get us a great return imo and allow Guhle to go back to the left side even though he's doing well on the right but I think he is more exposed to hits on the right side because it's not his natural position

Dvo is a non loss.
Savard is functional but his trade will force Mailman into the lineup. We get more offense but less defense.
At this point we have a tire fire...and changing the type of tires wont make a differense.

I've heard nemec for Newhook + Mailloux plus a first rounder.
I wouldn't do that.

Not sure how factual they are We want more grit but sit Jackeye. We want to trade players that don’t hustle and expect a good return. We want to build through the draft but didn’t select the best players available. We suffered through the worst Hab’s seasons of all time and find ourselves back at the bottom. A couple of trades is not addressing the problem.

I've heard nemec for Newhook + Mailloux plus a first rounder. I wouldn't do that. That trade would be the height of stupidity. The 40,000 ft no oxygen height of stupidity. Nemec has 1 point in 9 games on a team whose system made Kova a top 4 and 40 point season pace. Why the hell trade Kova if you're going to toss out Mailman? It's downright frightening that it would be even a rumour.

I've heard nemec for Newhook + Mailloux plus a first rounder. I wouldn't do that. I might. I probably have a higher ceiling for Nemec than some. At least, it would be a startig point. Not crazy about add the first rounder, but the basis is there (as the Mailloux fans storm my house with pitchforks and torches). Sorry guys, I still have doubts about Mailloux's game processing, but his huge Laval point totals sure look attractive. Interesting point about those articles. The parts that have been 'confirmed by numerous sources' is that Hughes is looking for an RHD and a gritty forward. Full Stop. I didn't see anything about Nemec, Newhook, Mailloux or a first rounder. That has to be speculation by others than the 'numerous sources'. In fact, I would like to add my name to those of numerous sources. I too, feel (in my gut) that Hughes is looking for an RHD and a gritty forward.

Nemec has been a healthy scratch for multi consecutive games because...he's not playing well.
5'9" and 160 pound rookie Casey took Nemec spot.
I suppose one day he will be better...or not.

I was having a chat with a friend about certain Canuck players (he's obviously a Canuck fan). These guys come to Vancouver and end up fitting really well and playing above expectations. It raised the point about some players needing a certain style, or coach or city....something that clicks with them and they become better players than they have shown in the past (Paul Byron comes to mind and there are others). In Nemec's case, does he have his own Dom Ducharme who is holding him down? Personally, I have no confidence in Sheldon Keefe as a coach. A secondary factor is that the Devils are in win now mode. And they have a solid defense already (Casey btw, has been sent down). Their current D is
Jonas Siegenthaler, Dougie Hamilton, Brendan Dillon, Luke Hughes, Kovacevic, Brett Pesce.
That's 6 experienced, big, good skating Dmen (until Kovacevic regresses). It makes more sense for the Devils to let Nemec marinate in the AHL. Nemec actually had a decent year last year, for a disappointing Devils team. My recall of his WJC career was very good. Smart, strong on the puck, and very good all around. I thought he was better than Jiricek and scouts did as well. I was not surprised to see him picked second. If there was a chance to acquire him, without losing an arm and a leg, I'd work hard at it.

Makes little sense to me. Au contraire. That's a 31st, a 16th and, say, a 15th at best, for a 2nd overall. That's probably about right, though that measurement is not anything I'd advocate for deriving value. As an example, would you trade a 2nd overall for a 4th overall? Hell no. In 2017, however, that means you'd be trading Nolan Patrick for Cale Makar. Hell yeah. Different draft years make a huge difference too. At the time, 2022 was not rated that good a draft year, but looking at it two years later, there are a lot of good players or prospects who look like they'll be good players, showing up.

On Basu and Godin's Monday Notebook, Arpon referenced a recent set of chats he held with Laval players, around the system they're using, which Pascal Vincent is asking them to use. It's Marty's system, which makes sense. Our farm team should use the parent team's system so it's familiar when players are called up. Basu said that Adam Engstrom said it was ok, that he needed to tweak a few things to be really comfortable with it. Basu then described Mailloux's. response about the system as 'puzzled". Both he and Godin reiterated that it's early on, he's young, blah, blah, but honestly, if he's still puzzled by it after 9 games under 2 coaches, I'd be concerned. The physical gifts are obvious, but so too were Mike Komisarek's (sorry for the analogy, Cranky)

The physical gifts are obvious, but so too were Mike Komisarek's (sorry for the analogy, Cranky) You missed the part that Mailman has freedom to play his game and wont punish mistakes. 9 points in 4 games and tops in the AHL for drfenseman....with half the games. Besides, Vincent would look like an idiot if he let Mailman say that when it's clear Hughes wants both teams to play the same system. I suggest instead of thinking that Mailman can't process the game, watch his skating. In beer league i could process the game a week before the players in front of me made any move yet could do sweet f all about it because i couldn't skate. By the time i got to where i cut off a pass, the entire team and their cavalry passed by me. Things to look at to see if its a skating issue or a judgement issue...watch his one on one battles. He loses too many of them. Watch his gaps. Does he leave enough gap to react or is he too slow to catch them. I see skating issues that can be fixed...a few dumb judgement calls that rookies make when they forget they are playing against NHLers. BTW...the last young player who could skate circles around Mailman but had an Atari on his shoulder was Beaulieu. He never put it together and now out of the NHL. He would beat everyone to the top of the opposing circle, stop, get out a chart, call a friend, consult an oracle..but still didn't know what to do with the puck. HUGE disappontment.

If the lack of intensity and aggression is truly front and center on management's brain and eyes, then why in the world was the fourth line at practice today Kapanen at center with Armia and Heineman?
Sorry, I am not buying the speculation and click bait. The first step to reducing the softness surplus we see every night would be to put in pieces that you already have (Pezzetta, Candotta). The idea that Hughes is pissed and wants edgy anger on the forecheck and in the face of opponents, yet says no problem Marty let's roll with this trio until I make a deal seems like bs. You can send a message and change the identity of the 11th-12th forwards while you are working the phones for a bigger nasty.

I read that Dubas has been in 5 Hab games.
So what makes sense? This is what i said elsewhere?
.......
While Letang can contribute as a RHD, he will also block Mailioux for a few years.
This only works if the Habs get high value for Matheson, replace him with Letang and rebalance Guhle to the left side. Then Mailman has a path to learn behind Letang.
Hutson and Letang will be DEADLY combo. FAR better the Matheson/Guhle.
Then Guhle goes left partnered with Mailman.
This only works for Montreal on a multi move, multi team trade OR Matheson for Letang and a second. Why the second? Because it will be easier and more valuable for the Pens. Right now, the Pens get a plate of poutine and a 3rd if Letang ONLY wants to go home and play for the Habs.
Remember his NMC.
All this makes sense IF Hughes think Letang is worth the effort.

C'mom Cranky. Stay focused. Letang is of no use to our future. I ain't giving up any good asset for him. If Dubas wants to 'reward' Letang with a trade to his motherland then fine, but HuGo better not be giving up anything but parts, and Dubas bette rbe retrianing salary. Letang is at $6.1 million for another 3 years after this and he's almost 40!!!. Talk about a bad contract. No wonder Dubas would like to unload him. I don't think I'd give up any of the QuadSquad for Letang. Sure Letang is better than any of them but we'll be free from Dvo and Armia this March and free of Gally and Josh next March. Don't want another bad contract for another 3 years. As for trading Maths for LeTang, Maths will get us a much better asset than LeTang thisn Spring, and one that will be of use when we are contending.
