Montembeault is a lot better than his numbers show.

I'm having triplets.... I'm not sure if we were that good OR oil cans are not as good as advertised. If the debate was man/man or zone, that 5 pn 6 showed that zone looked far better. Need a larger sample size but zone is simpler to play for lesser talents. I missed the 2nd so need to see if it was as dominating as the 3rd.

Oilers are D-pleted...so that helped a lot.
They came out strong early and Monty had the answers. Shots were 20-10 Oil at one point...then 15-10 Habs the rest of the way.

Probably best game of the season for Habs. Monty was good but he didn't have to be great. D zone coverage looked NHL worthy - are they catching on or has Marty changed the coverage? And some big hits by X, and Cole manhandled Drazy on a couple of occasions. And Lane showed he could play with the big boys. A number of times he was defeding McD or Drazy and played them well.
All four lines played well, altho i think Suze's was the least effective offensively - probably focusing on keeping McD off the board. Mission accomplished!
Edm is always the same old same. After McD and Drazy there's nada. Their defence is very suspect and their 3rd and 4th lines are worse than ours.
Now what are we going to do about Dach? He is just so bad and doesn't seem to be getting any better.

They played man/man and then on the 5 on 6 zone. I'm starting to think they have enough processing power to switch back and forth. If they can accomplish that at will, it's a big deal. Although when they played m/m, they were run around on purpose and they lost coverage. Looked like headless chickens. I'm going to fall off my extra high toddler chair if the guys show that much discipline switching coverage type with a much better team. If they did it with the Wild as an example. X is coming around. Not happy with his zone exits and losing possession. I don't know where to find the numbers but not thrilled seeing the puck sail down the zone. He seems to fear carrying it and he should be. Not exactly fleet of foot nor particulry great at beating m/m coverage. 17.10 has been the longest ice time in forever. Third highest this season and 3 minutes short of his longest at 20.34. I'm pissed at the lack of shooting. Is he that wild and hard that the guys in front fear for their bones? He's not even calling for the puck, although he fails to put himself in the open or move himself to a shooting lane. So it may be more of his fault for not reading the ice to get into a shooting lane. There were a few instances where he was the best passing option to shoot yet he was not passed to. If it was me with 107mph canon, i would give him an earful but it seems perfectly normal. Or at least from our limited perspective. OR maybe he's afraid of a bad bounce and a breakaway on him. That where the words "shooting lane" comes in. Chicken and egg problem... at 107mph. Dach...this is NOT the Dach of last season. WTH is going on with him? We are closing in on quarter of the season and he's still the Chicago Dach. I wonder if he going to wake up when Laine comes back. Laine is going to be a pretty statue in a line of pretty statues if Dach can't be his playmaker. Laine was a ppg with a good center...but not a Chicago Dach. We are living in interesting Habs times...

Hate to say it but the Chicago Dach would be an improvement. Marty has to be struggling with deciding to put him on the 4th line and tell him to start playing/caring, or does Marty continue to nurse the guy's injury, and his head?

As reported by Arpon Basu, Guhle says it was the turning point of the game, "Guhle was waiting for the X-rays to show his right hand was not broken and wondering how his team was doing without him. When his teammates came back in the room tied at 0 after the first period, they filled him in on what had happened. “They said after Arber’s (Xhekaj) hit against (Zach) Hyman, it kind of riled up the group, got the crowd into it a little bit,” Guhle said. “I think after that hit we kind of turned it around a bit.”

He is just so bad and doesn't seem to be getting any better. The Oiler fans were rightfully sore about having to go without Darnell Nurse. It accentuates the lack of depth, especially on their D Corps. Well, we're missing Laine and Dach. (yeah, I know he was dressed). I held my breath on that hit by Arber on Hyman, because I expected a penalty and was ready to explode. Not because it wasn't a penalty (it was interference for sure), but because a few minutes earlier, one of the Oilers did exactly that to a Hab and they didn't call it. I was fuming then but after they let Xhekaj's go, I thought it was fair. No one complained about either from what I saw. Hutson keeps impressing me with his defensive work and his passing. I've always thought that with the big guys who protect the puck well, it's useless to try and use your body on them. They want that and look for it, so they can block you off and make their play. The smarter thing is to stay close and keep attacking their stick, which is what Hutson did with Draisaitl and they went for a waltz around the edge. Drai wasn't able to penetrate and with everyone else staying close to their men, the attack eventually fizzled. On several occasions I've seen him go back to get the puck in the corner with a forechecker1 and an F2 flying in to clean up. He somehow fakes the F1 and even though he's partially pinned, his stick is free, and he then chips the puck past the F2 to his winger and off they go. It's very clinical and he doesn't get hammered on the boards like everyone expects. He's a wily one.
