The one thing I have a hard time understanding is why modern Habs fan's hate the Leafs so much. I mean, don't get me wrong, I hate the Leafs more then life itself.....I'm the one screaming and swearing at the TV screen when the Habs play the Leafs. Heck, I'll even swear in front on children at Cage aux Sports. I know, I know..... its sad but true. I hate all their players.....not just one or two but all of them. I also hate those damn CBC announcers.....especially Neil.......that bastard. Every time Belfour makes a routine save..."WHAT A SAVE, WHAT AN ACROBATIC AERIAL MANOEVER, BLAH BLAH BLAH." My God man, it was just a routine save like any other. Honestly, I dont really know why I hate the Leafs so much. Its more then just because of the rivalry.....but what?  I wish I knew. If you live in Southern Ontario like I do, and you're surrounded by Leaf fans and media you have a very strong emotion for the them. You either absolutely love them, or absolutely hate them. Either way, no one can sit on the fence when it comes to the Leafs.
Even as I'm writing this I'm listening to Doug Gilmour talk about coming back to the Leafs and all I can do is shake my head.
I hate them more than anything in this world, and really there's no root to my hate.

I live in London, and after draft day, they had a short paragraph on Calgary's pick and Kastsitsyn, and then a WHOLE FREAKIN' PAGE of Toronto's pick, who wasn't even picked until late into the second round (I think)! There was absolutely nothing on who the Oilers, Canucks and Senators picked, but a whole freakin' page about a second round pick who's probably going to waste just like all of TO's other picks anyway. Meh. There's more and more b*tching about how the Leaf's organization has been doing things lately though; that's always fun to see. ;D |

Personally, I hate them for these reasons.
1 - I just hate pretty much hate everything Toronto. I don't know why. I just do.
2 - Toronto, along with the Rangers and Stars, are the worst managed hockey team in the NHL. All they do is spend their money and have absolutely no concept in building a team. They trade away all their draft picks for pricey verterans, and overpay, overachieving players every summer. They also have absolutely no prospects on their farm team (as far as I know)
3 - Their fans are real a-holes at Montreal games. They get all drunk and stupid but its not the funny stupid like Montreal fans get at games, they become all nasty and start saying stuff and its quite annoying. They have no class.
4 - The media portrays them as hockey gods and that they are the best team in the world every year and there are no other teams besides Toronto.
I'm sure there are more reasons but I can't think of them now.
It would be fun to also hear about why Toronto fans hate Montreal.

Most of my buddies are leafs fans, and I got hammered day-in day-out last season. "Jose Theodore, one-hit wonder, the second coming of Jim Carey".
Then it's on and on about Nik Antropov, "the prodigy"... at least that stopped when he was moved off the Sundin-Mogilny line. Eric Desjardins said all that needs to be said about him: "Have you seen Nick Antropov play?"
And the incessant trade rumours - Lindros, Jagr, Kovalev, Amonte, Mario.... MARIO!!! They're all going to the leafs for Tucker and Green.
That is some annoying sh!t to have to deal with for an entire season, especially when the only way we communicate is via hockey conversation.
I hate the leafs. Hate is a strong word, but there is no doubt, I HATE them. Everytime I see them score, I get sick to my stomach. Every time that crack-head Belfour gets a shut-out, my head pounds.
I think I have some serious issues.

I live in Southern Ontario too ( London ), and like some of ya's there is no real reason why I hate the Leafs other than the fact that they're, well, the Leafs. If there's anything good abbout living so close to Leafland, it's bashing them  . Nothing beats sticking up a few " Leafs Suck", or "Leafs Will Lose" signs in the house window.  |

I have always hated the leafs but this verison of the leafs is easy to hate. "The biggest bunch of whiners, divers, and cheap-shot artists!" Every lose is the refs fault. If they lose 5-1 it is becauce the ref missed a call in the 1st. They are a joke. There is a differance between tough hockey and dirty hockey; the Leafs play dirty hockey. You know what truly boggles the mind is the number of Leaf fans out there that are absolutely crazed about this team and why?The haven't won anything in 36 years yet they map out a parade route evey October.Most of the kids parents who are brain washing these poor kids haven't even seen a Stanley Cup.So in some ways you have to give them some credit for supporting a loser........but I tell ya in makes me smile evey time they are eliminated and they say wait till next year ha ha ha ha ha.
We really should care less about the Leafs and spend our time concentrating on the Habs returning to glory.The Lleafs are in good hands with Mr. Pat (I'll never win the Cup) Quinn.

Like many other posters here, I live in Toronto and have lived here for my entire life (my parents moved here from Montreal one year before I was born). I live in Mississauga which is a suburb of Toronto, but no matter where you go in Southern Ontario you can't get away from the Blue and White.
Why do I hate them? Because as a Hab fan it's my duty... I am exposed to Leaf fans who think they know what it takes for their team to win a cup even though they've never seen a cup winning team in their entire lives! They always seem to be one or two players away don't they?... how everyone says that Leaf fans are knowledgable hockey fans, even though every time I turn on the radio to the FAN590, there's always some idiot who thinks that the Leafs should trade Aki Berg for Joe Sakic... their feeling of pride that they are "Canada's Team", even though they are oblivious to the fact that every other Canadian city hates everything Toronto... the CBC or should I say, the TBC... the feeling that Nik Antropov (or any young Leaf player that scores in consecutive games) is the next coming of Gretzky... if you live here, you're feeling of hate for the Leafs comes naturally.
I always tell people that my favourite team's the Habs and that my second favourite team is whoever's playing the Leafs.

I hate the leafs because almost all the games CBC shows involve them, preventing me from watching my precious habs, no matter how bad or good they are doing  . My friend was a leaf Fan for a season, a single season. We would poke fun at each other, but I would always win because of my superior intellect... just kidding. Luckily, he was no longer a leaf fan, but he became a Ranger fan. Every time Montreal beat the Rangers or the Rangers lost he would here it from me, and now after seeing how badly the Rangers are managed, just like the leafs he is no longer a Ranger fan. Hopefully he will come to his senses and cheer for a good team, even if it isn't the habs. |

Because I am a morally superior human being, I can not bring myself to hate the despicable, freaken Leafs.
I can not harbor any ill will against a lovely lady that wears a Leaf jersey. It is my duty as a Hab fan to convince her to take it off for me. After all, once she has been, err, Habbed she is never the same again. And the Leaf jersey? Well, one can always use it as a wipe.
I can not fault Leaf fans for carrying the Leaf flag on their car. It is my duty to help them make their car a monument by deflating ALL their tires. They need not thank me for my thoughtfulness.
I can not fault Leaf fans for trying to work for me. I just ask them a skill testing question and if they don’t qualify, they are not hired. After all, everyone should know how many goals and assists Maurice Richard had.
I can not fault Toronto media for supporting the Leafs. That is why I use the Toronto Star sport section exclusively for toilet paper. Yes, Hab fans are tough.
Our moral superiority does constrains us from kicking every single deluded freaken Leaf fan that crosses our path. But if we go after their woman, maybe we could stop them from breeding……

Okay guys, my turn. 1) Not all of us are morons. 2) Not all of us Plan a Parade every September for the following Spring 3) A lot of us know there is plenty wrong with the Leafs (Ownership and Managment have their heads where the sun doesn't shine and a lot of us realize that) 4) Not all of us Love Quinn as GM 5) Not all of us get drunk in Montreal and make @$$es of ourselves. 6) Not all of us wear "Rose Coloured" or "Blue Tinted" glasses 7) A lot of us see through this garbage new ownership, along with management, is giving us 8) Not all of us believe that garbage in the news and those idiot rumours the Toronto Media (Strachen, Cox, etc.) put in the news. We know it's hogwash and they are the idiots that shouldn't be allowed to write about anything, much less hockey or the Leafs. 9) Not all Leafs fans in the Toronto area think Toronto is the Center of the Universe or that the Leafs are 'Canada's Team.' 10) Not all of us believe all those dumb rumours of Lindros and every other Player in the NHL to Toronto for Tucker or anyone else. Some of us really are smart. It just has to do with Loyalty to our team. Could you really say you would stop being a Habs fan if they went on a couple decades long drought? It's ingrained in you once you become a REAL and TRUE fan of a team. It has all to do with loyalty. That loyalty doesn't mean you are stupid and believe the stupid stuff. That loyalty doesn't mean you like the way Ownership and Managment jacks you around and doesn't really give a rats behind if they improve the team. As long as they make some money, they really don't give jack about the Fans. But the loyalty has to do with the TEAM and only the TEAM, and not with management and/or ownership. The Loyalty has to be to the TEAM in spite of what ownership does to jack you around as a fan. No, I don't wear "Rose Coloured" Glasses. I didn't think the Leafs would even make the Playoffs in 2002, and I figured if they made it to the 2003 Playoffs they wouldn't go very far (I hoped they would and I supported them, but realistically I didn't think they would). Unless something drastic happens before next season, the Leafs probably won't make the Playoffs in 2004 and if they do, I expect them to be eliminated in Round 1 again. And I'm not the only Leafs fan who feels this way about it. P.S. For the new members, I've been with HabsRus from almost the beginning (early 2000). CO and Dis are personal friends of mine so I like to pop in once in a while to let everyone know I am still alive here in California. |

They were all “somewhat” normal (except BC and Spiro, they were NEVER normal) before they got here but alas, the with mind bending techniques, itch powder and sustained viewings of Brisebois, they have now been converted to evil doing, evil talking Hab fans.

My Freudian theory on Leaf fan... No matter how much you think you hate the Leafs, you'll never approach the level of hate Leafs fans had for the HABS... Many of these poor souls have been brought up watching the team they hate the most, the HABS, winning championships and cups, producing hockey legends, drafting stars and being recognize as an International sports Icon, let alone the most influencial franchise of the NHL. This while their team was today's competitive equivalent of the Nashville Predators. They went through decades of that... waiting for their turn to enjoy a dominant NHL team and stick it to those arrogant HABS fans. For decades, we HABS fans had for real...a team that could win the cup every season ...a team on which every hockey players wanted to be ...an ownership that could afford any player and spend at will ...a hockey management team that could maintain the dynasty by drafting and trading like no other ...the best coaches and strategists of the league Newer HABS fans might not have seen these days but older HABS fans communicate it so well that it's as if they did. It's no wonder many Leafs fans today think they have these things: they've been raised wishing and praying they one day would and that we would lose it all. The minute they saw a glimpse of competitiveness they felt it had to be it. Don Cherry? AH! At his peak, he's been chewed, crushed, spat and left for dead in the gutter by the HABS. All he's got left is the clown act he's been doing ever since. Newer Leafs fan who haven't been raised by a Leaf fan, such as PAM, aren't infected though and may help generate a new era of Leafs fans... |

The Toronto Maple fLeas fans (my spellchecker never questions it) remind me of characters in a Wagnerian opera. They have forsworn love in their quest for the metal and are bitter that it eternally avoids their grasp.
Anything else? Yes, that blue maple leaf. Anyone contemplating a BLUE leaf would thnk it to be morbid and unnatural.Ccmpared with the color of a real maple leaf or the Canadian flag.
Finally, they have revealed their true name ... the Peddies. An reminder of what went on in the depths of Maple Leaf Gardens.
