I don’t think anybody is worried that Hainsey, or Hossa will become stars. But for me anyways, it’s a question of asset management. Did we get the best return on our assets? Well, I think we have to start to think in new terms with the new CBA. "Assets" are really either young players, contracts with older players (who are UFAs when the contract is up, and thus have limited value as assets), or cap space. I expect to see two equivalent players traded eventually - the overpaid one and a pick going in exchange for the reasonably priced one, the trade being essentially cap room for a pick. Also, the two H's (Hainsey and Hossa) were getting awfully close to the 27 year old UFA age to still be investing even more development time in them. Anyhow, to a certain extent Hainsey's loss was an offshoot of the transition from one CBA to another. Next time a kid has stalled, his minor league contract won't be over 75K...
