TSn has the Habs nabbing Semin at #15. Currently rated as the #2 Euro that would'nt be to bad would it? Don't know much about him but from his bio. Any enlightenment would this be a steal at #15? HFTO

Savard is so good at keeping his freakin cards close to his vest that I do not know whether to expect the habs to be very active, a little active or not active at all tomorrow.
I have to tape the draft since I have a golf game set for tomorrow. I will not be listening to the radio on the way back, that's for sure.

I'm reminded that in previous drafts I've always been disappointed afterward, because there was so much hype and speculation, little of which actually came off. Here's hoping tomorrow is different because of the poor depth after the first 5 picks. And they have way too many ads and interruptions. Bettman should just shut up and open the draft and teams should be better organized to call their choice and get up to the podium. Do I sound like some impatient, gnarly old grouch who is really angry at a lot of other things? Like salary structures, free agents, player unions and guys who can't think.

Here's the first trade guys. Bobby Clarke just traded up with Tampa Bay to get their 4th overall pick. R. Fedotenko plus two draft picks is the preliminary report.
I just picked it up on my way home from work on The Team. I think it was a 34th and a 52nd or something like that. I'm only guessing guys so I went to the NHL.com site to verify where the Flyers were in the order. They are indeed 34th and 52nd overall. But this hasn't been released on the boards as yet.
Probably more coming. I'll have to tape it as I'm on shift starting at noon. Cheers.

And the Canadiens pick Hudler. What he's gone. Then we pick Evseev. One of them will still be around.

Yup, TSN has the same story up. Apparently Phili is aiming for Nash 'tho he may not still be there at 4th. Surely Phili couldn't trade up again, could they?

Good deal for both teams IMO. Tampa needs immediate help and I guess Philly wants Pitkanen to rebuild their mediocre defence.

The big problem I have with Fedotenko, Marc, is that I don't know that much about him. He was not one of PHilly's top centres, as you say, 3rd line. That may just mean he's younger and has better centres ahead of him at this stage in his life, but man....giving up the 4th overall for a guy who might score 30 goals is kinda tough. If I was Feaster, I'd have held out for at least PHilly's 1st rounder next year, in a deeper draft. I can't believe there wasn't a better deal available. Communication problem with a young GM? I guess we'll have a better handle on this next year, when Fedotenko gets more ice time.

Hard to say if there was a better deal available. You gotta think that if there were at this time, from Tampa's perspective, they would have made it. I think that we have to be careful about just assuming that there are better deals around as we're very far away from what's happening after all. But, as you say,an inexperienced GM...?
Maybe Fedotenko is a guy Tampa targeted and figured could do just as well, if not better, than a number four pick. Many top picks have bombed while Fedotenko has some record to go on. He has decent size and scored 16 & 17 goals the past two years. His +/- has also been pretty good, +15 last year. So they may figure that, at 23, the kid is just going to come into his own. Plus two extra picks, you increase your chances of finding a good player out of this year's draft.
Another thing. I saw Tampa's Gm interviewed and he said that the time to win is NOW! It's time to get into the playoffs this coming season. So, from that perspective, the move to get an NHL proven player that can help right away makes sense. It's unlikely that somebody drafted in this year's draft at 4th would provide significant help in the upcoming season.

I'm hoping we spend a third or fourth rounder on Trevor Daley, whose stock seems to have dropped recently for some reason. He was always touted as a fairly high pick, and is a pretty exciting player to watch. He's a defenceman for my hometown team, the Soo Greyhounds, who I've have the pleasure to watch occasionally here in Windsor. He can be a game breaker in the OHL, which doesn't always translate to the next step, but his talent is unquestionable. He's a swift skater and can take the puck end-to-end. He's very crafty with the puck, and is excellent on the power play. I think highly enough of this guy that I'd even burn our second rounder on him. Here's a scouting report on him I just found, nice to see they agree with me 99.Trevor Daley--D--Sault-Ste. Marie Shoots: Left Height: 5-10 Weight: 182 lbs Birthdate: 1983-10-09 Hometown: Toronto, Ontario He is an incredible skater who can take the puck from one end of the ice to another with ease. He has a great shot and a good on ice vision in terms of setting his teammates up for scoring chances. He has a very intense competitive streak and is not afraid to drop the gloves, as he proved earlier in the year with fellow rookie star Steve Ott. He is a great positional defenceman which means he is smart enough to join the rush or he knows to stay back. Watch for him to be a top pick in the 2002 draft.

I don't think Philly has a 1st rounder after dealing one in the Oates deal and no news if they will get a 2002 one or the 2003 one to complete the Langkow deal with Phoenix. Here is info on Ruslan: tsf.waymoresports.thestar.com/thestar/hockey/player.cgi?2065Profile not updated yet since the start of the 2001-02 season 16 goals and 17 goals in the last 2 years with limited ice time...draw your on conclusions...6'2 195 would have looked good with that size in a Habs uniform

Teams like Tampa, Atlanta, Anaheim have no choice but to start winning this year. They are in fragile hockey markets and their attendance is declining(especially Anaheim and Atlanta). Tampa probably figures they need more scoring(they do with the Bulin Wall around) and they got it by getting Fedotenko and signing Svitov.

Columbus looks like they are going to pick Nash.
ATL has the #2 pick. Watch them pick Jay Bo and make Dudley look like a fool. Mckenzie says he thinks ATL will pick Lehtonen and FLA will still get Bouwmeester. I don't think so..

I sure wish the American and Canadian media would learn from Europeans. If TSN is going to televise for 3 hours, why not start at 10:30 PDT? We're just wasting 20 minutes for nothing and we get to miss Bettman's bluster. When a World Cup soccer game starts at 11:30, it starts at 11:30. Anthems etc., all are finished by then. Looks like moving up for Nash is a goner.

Nash goes #1 overall to Columbus.
Amazing how for years we said Spezza and Bouwmeester would go #1 overall in 2001 and 2002 and both won't!!
Watch ATL pick JayBo...

Unbelievable, all ATL gets is a 3rd and a 4th from Florida. No word if it's for this year.
Couldn't they have received some young NHL players(Novoseltsev as an example?)

JayBo goes 3rd overall...so the Panthers *may* advance a few spots next year in the draft and give up a 3rd and a 4th rounder to draft him.
They should have just kept the #1 and save the trouble!
