Speaking of brothers (Lucic and Emelin), I see Lucy is going the FA route. Is there any price low enough that people would be content to see this rascal in les tricolours? Ironic given this sort of player may be just what we need on our top 6, big and can score, but not his mentality. Sorry, but had to ask Nope. It would be cause to turn in my colours. it would burn me big time but he is the kind of guy we are looking for -- not afraid of the rough stuff and willing to stand up for his teammates. too many bridges burned though, I think

The Habs don't need to trade for any more depth, if we are going to sign or trade for someone, they have to be elite, nothing else would help us, any other signing would be a sideways move.

The Habs don't need to trade for any more depth, if we are going to sign or trade for someone, they have to be elite, nothing else would help us, any other signing would be a sideways move. I'll suggest there's a caveat to that. Truly elite is becoming less and less available. Even Stamkos, considered 'elite' by some, is fairly well removed from his 60 goal season. He's a consistent 30-40 goal man in most situations. So is Pacioretty. So should be Galchenyuk from this point on. Gallagher isn't far removed. We've talked about how many goals we need to get to the next level. Parting with Desharnais would subtract 10-15 goals for and likely subtract goals against of a similar number too. With his numbers accounted for, we were looking for another 20 goals. Without him, you're looking for 30 goals. You could put all those eggs in one basket. However, with Plekanec signed, and unlikely to move, that becomes really hard to do. I'd argue to spread the money over 2 quality players and when Plekanec's next contract is up you can investigate acquiring a center to pair with Galch. Eriksson and Brouwer would likely come in close to, if not a little more, than what Stamkos likely gets. I'd predict the low side production of both is 40 goals. We add a really solid two-way guy that can play the 200 foot game and kill penalties in Loui. We add a warrior type that plays hard minutes well and leans on the competition, while providing clutch goals, in Brouwer.

Stamkos had a couple rough years due to injuries and being moved to the wing. Put him back at center and depending on his health I bet he would reach the 45 goal mark on a good team. Eriksson and Brouwer IMO are sideways moves....Erikkson is interesting but he's 30, so is Brouwer but he's a bottom 6 guy on this team.

Brouwer but he's a bottom 6 guy on this team. which in MT's world makes him a top 3 guy on this team.

(edit: cue the "meathead" jokes)

Brouwer's was arguably the Blues' best forward in a number of games these playoffs. He shows up when it counts and has a ring. They're both 30, which means I wouldn't be offering more than 5 years to either. I'd pencil them in on my second line with Plekanec and run. Pacioretty(35)-Galchenyuk(30)-Gallagher(25) Eriksson(25)-Plekanec(25)-Brouwer(15) That's 155 goals without breaking much of a sweat. Brouwer's averaged 20 goals the last 7 years. He's demonstrated he can play with and support skill players. Price is 28. Pacioretty and Subban aren't far behind. They're not so far outside the core group that they wouldn't mesh.

Rishaug is reporting out of Edmonton that it appears the asking price for Yakupov is a third. He's quoting an unnamed source. FWIW. Our third this year is 70th overall. In a reportedly thin draft, it might be typical of Bergevin's bargin bin shopping to take that sort of a flyer and see if he can ignite his career with an old friend. Nail has one year left at $2.5 million.

I'd take a chancer on Yak, 1 season to prove himself with Galchy and move Gally down to the 2nd line, helps solidify the right wing, otherwise I am good with signing Lucic, it would kill Bruin fans, add toughness and a scoring power forward to the team. It would help add some size and scoring to the to the 2nd line and create lots of space for his linemates. After 1 fight, Lucic would become a fan favourite.

Have to admit it would be entertaining to watch Lucic going against Marchant a half dozen times a season, I would also go after Yakapov for the sake he is young, cheap and had a ton of natural talent.

While I don't think fighting will take on much of a role in the NHL in the near future, it doesn't hurt to have a big guy who can fight, and play, to create space and time for your teammates. I wonder what Lucic's take would be on playing for the Habs? He may not be able to convince himself to do so. If we sign him, we won't be able to sign Weise as well (not that I want to anyway).

If Yakupov can be obtained for a third, why not? I think he is worth a flyer and eventually one of these Berg reclamation gambles has to pay off big. He did look much better in the last third of the season (on a team that had nothing but a high lottery pick to play for).

Absolutely 17, one only has to recall Josh Gorges nixing the MTL trade to the leafs because he could not stomach playing for such a reviled (in his mind) team. Same, same with Lucic and especially with Emelin still on board....too much bad blood to make any deal here.

....eventually one of these Berg reclamation gambles has to pay off big. So far the Berg's very first reclamation project ever ( rescuing Therrien from the comfy seats of L'Antichambre) has yet to pay any forward moving dividends.....unless drafting #9th, four years later, is some sort of success from the #3rd overall position after the foxhole cuckold got together.

My view is once you're in the third round it's a real crap shoot. Wonder what the stats are on 3rd round success and let's say 5th round. As well, I remember a certain first overall who wore #10 and didn't explode on the scene until his 3rd year. Was it part of the development or getting rid of the helmet so his blond locks could flow as he strode down the wing? Yaks could probably dye his hair but the helmet is now a keeper

It wouldn't take long for the same fans that hated Lucic, to fall in love with him. There would be plenty of Lucic jersey in the stands. Lucic, Gally, Shaw... those are 3 assholes to play against... Put Shaw between Lucic and Gally.... That would drive the other team nuts.

You need a buffer too, so trade Emelin for picks as well and sign Stamkos or Okposo or Eriksson and prepare the parade route (unless MT blocks it).

I guess they tried moving him at the trade deadline but there were no takers ... I'm at work so I can't embed tweets ... see below: According to sources, David Desharnais is on the market. Who needs goals wow... we must really need someone on the 2nd line... to hell with giving the kids a chance... they have to learn to become pluggers because that's how we'll win the cup... Getting tired of this Saperlipopette. EDIT (and still pissed): According to Pierre LeBrun

Lavoie is reporting that Lessio and Dietz won't be qualified and will become UFAs. I thought both availed themselves pretty well when they were called up. Perhaps Berg lets them walk. Maybe he tries to sign them for less than what they would have gotten via QO.

Joel Hanley got resigned 2 way 600k/85k Correct. I'd heard that Lessio wanted a one-way deal. That makes it hard to keep him. I'd rather him than Matteau, but we're stuck with Matteau. Dietz, I hope re-signs. He was a good call up.
