My paternal grandfather was a native Estonian, an architect and engineer by profession, who was commissioned by Tsar Nikolai to survey the route for the trans-Siberian railroad. An Engineer, I knew you had good bloodlines somewhere... Given the circumstances, no one can blame him for that...

Thanks Rimmer and Wildcat, for the info. It seems that the Gazette site is pretty authoritative in terms of RSL standing. Btw, Wildcat are you Russian, living in Russia? Do please keep forwarding Russian links to this board. Either Tattac (work permitting) or myself (time permitting) will get around to providing translation. If there are any native Russian speakers out there who wouldn't mind contributing translation, that would be great. I don't pretend to be conversant in Pushkin's language. I know the alphabet, but rely on machine translation and heavy editing to make sense of articles. My efforts have received a thumbs up from Tattac (who is a Muscovite), but the process can be quite time consuming. So help, if available, is appreciated. I actually can’t read or write any Russian, although I could probably pick out Kastitsyn’s name on a Russian site. I only really became interested in RSL after the Canadiens drafted Kastitsyn. Most of the sites that I found were the result of using google or altavista using his name in Russian. And, all I’ve ever really found on our Belarusian enigma are box scores and the occasional mention from another player’s interview. Always nice to read your post’s Mr Bozo. You’re a bundle of knowledge and information, Teacher!

She was born into a family that had been resident in St Petersburg shortly after Catherine's reign. More about the city's origins here: www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/grhc/history_culture/history/catherine.htmlMy paternal grandfather was a native Estonian, an architect and engineer by profession, who was commissioned by Tsar Nikolai to survey the route for the trans-Siberian railroad. My father's side were native Estonian kulaks (well-to-do farmers). His father was a political activist advocating Estonian self-determination. My father, at the age of 17, witnessed the Red Army murdering his entire family by firing squad when he returned from a day's work in the fields. He fled and joined the partisans in the woods, who sniped equally at the Germans and Russians who were trespassing on his native land. He and a couple of buddies escaped in rowboat, and were halfway across the Baltic Sea to Finland before they were captured by a Soviet patrol. They thought it was curtains then and there. But as irony would have it he was imprisoned in Tallinn's (capitol city of Estonia) swankiest hotel, which the Soviets had commandeered. A hotel that his, at the time unknown, future father-in-law had designed. Irony. And yeah, he never did finish high school. where do the Swedes fit in your lineage? I don't know anything about estonian language but, if it's anything like hungarian, than I would agree that it's really difficult to learn, not only for westerners. btw, are you sure that "everything is pronounced as written" in estonian? I didn't get that impression from watching football (soccer) and basketball and listening to the reporters (of course, they almost never bother to find out the correct pronounciation , especially the English). the Estoinans seem to have many 'duplicate' letters in their words and also letters like 'ü', 'ä', 'ö' which I'm not sure how to pronounce. R. Estonia was ruled by Sweden from 1561-1710. My real family name is Hendriksson, but during a brief period of Estonian independence at the beginning of the 20thC the name was changed to fit in more easily into the nationalistic fervour that swept the country. There are no silent letters in Estonian words. Double vowels are sounded twice as long as single vowels. For instance, in the Finnish name Teemu (incidentally the letter "e" is pronounced as in "Ted", and not as in "tee"). here is a source on the Estonian alphabet and its pronounciation: www.ibs.ee/ibs/estonian/alphabet/So, how about those Estonian Habs' prospects, eh?

So, how about those Estonian Habs' prospects, eh? you should talk to BG, AS and TT about becoming an official Habs' scout for Estonia. you have my full support. hey, maybe we could start a petition here on HabsRus. we know they read it regularly as well as some writers ;D. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack Todd talking about Estonia as an undiscovered hockey talent pool. R. p.s. thanks for all the info... EDIT: I followed that link and was very much surprised to see that it's very much similar to our own (except for the german letters) and the pronounciations as well

Great thread guys. I learned a lot, thanks The questions about the RSL are so far away now that I don't remember them. So are you still eager to know anything about Kastitsyn and others? How can I help you? Do you need daily results?

How can I help you? Do you need daily results? I seem to remember BC and HA explaining how things work around here. allow me to quote BC: "This is HabsRus, if you aren't willing to provide a 15 page synopis of AK's play during the game, including overall play, points, shots, shot locations, disposition, body language, pre-game weight versus post game weight, liquid intake (in both metric and imperial, for our American friends) and number of nose explorations (both self and teamates), then you aren't really one of us. We expect the best here, after all..." HabsAddict's instruction are a bit too long to quote, but, if you forgot, you can find it here: habsrus.proboards4.com/index.cgi?board=general&thread=1061713451&action=display&start=135seriously, anything you can provide (as you already do) would be much appreciated. If I recall correctly we were trying to ascertain the proper RSL standings. I think we got that sorted out, and then drifted...
However, it would be of interest to know how the following European players who were drafted by Montréal do this season:
Buturlin Tarasov Kostitsyn Korneyev Eneqvist Puurula Korpikari Halak Heino-Lindberg Linhart
I may have forgotten some players.

So are you still eager to know anything about Kastitsyn and others? How can I help you? Actually there is one thing that I wouldn’t mind knowing if you have any recollection of it. I’m not sure if it’s been cleared up yet, but I was wondering if Kastitsyn shoots left or right. It’s a minor thing but I’m sure it’s been on the minds of some of us at one point.

I assume you mean the Belarus vs. Sweden one at the 2003 WJC, seeing as how that’s probably the only one out there of him playing. Although I do believe that is him, it’d be nice to have it confirmed by someone who has or has the chance to see him live. No big deal though, Tattac. For anyone who hasn’t seen that pic it’s here: www.canadianhockey.ca/e/teams/mens/junior/2003/index.htmlThen just click on photos and go to the Jan. 03: SWE vs. BLR game.

Here's some more links to team pages for some of the other Europeon prospects: League: SM-LiigaOskari Korpikari -- KärpätJoni Puurula -- HPKLeague: Allsvenskan (All-Swedish) Christopher Heino-Lind -- IF Vallentuna BK (on loan from Hammerby according to eurohockey.net) Johan Eneqvist -- Hammarby IFThe latest news of Linhart comes from Dan (Montreal) saying that it looks like he was released from the London Knights, also speculating he might go back to his previous league. So, dunno where he's at right now. And, couldn't find anything on Halak.

Yes Linhart is gone from London (who have a great defense, and are in the top 10 of the CHL in the 1st ranking that came out) Linhart is back in the Czech league, and I will have more info later. (I keep forgetting to email someone I know that reads Czech) Halak is back in the Slovak junior league I think, it is hard to find info on him, but I hope my Czech friend can help me out. Christopher Heino-Lindberg is currently injured and not expected back until sometime in November. The team he is on loan to (name escapes me now) are very very bad and get outshot by a wide margin. I have good resources for the Swedish leagues, so I'l post what I know when I think I know it!

a recap of Russian superleague since 17.09.: Ak Bars - Khimik -> 6:1 Ak Bars - Neftekhimik -> 3:0 Korneev played in all games so far (5), no points in any of them Lada - Torpedo -> 2:0 Severstal - Lada -> 0:1 no points for Buturlin (if he played) EDIT: I couldn't find any trace of Buturlin in Lada's squad in any of the games played so far. is he injured or what? Metallurg Novokuznetsk - Amur -> 4:1 (Tarasov 14 saves) Avangard Omsk - Metallurg Novokuznetsk -> 3:5 (Tarasov 26 saves) the game against Sibir has already been reported CSKA - Metallurg Magnitogorsk -> 5:2 Kastytsin apparently didn't dress for CSKA. I read somewhere (can't seem to find that piece of info again) that he's been sent to CSKA 2. can someone verify this? Tattac? a couple of questions for those who know: 1. do we still hold rights to Tarasov? I believe we do, but I'm not sure. 2. how are the points awarded in Superleague? if I understood correctly, it goes like this: win - 3pts OT win - 2 pts OT loss and tie - 1 pt loss - no pts R.

Vadim Tarasov is a RFA, and he's 27 so we have his rights for a few more years.

Thanks, montreal. more games were played yesterday in the Russian Superleague. Himik - Metallurg Nk 4:5 Tarasov 16 saves SKA - Lada 2:4 Buturlin again didn't play. what's going on with him? CSKA - Dynamo 0:0 Kastytsin didn't dress one other thing, in AK Bars' last game (NefteKhimik, won 3:0), Korneev was the 7th dman (they apparently didn't dress 8 dman as usual). this years' Superleague apparently didn't start well for Habs' prospects. R. AK Bars defense is stacked. Denisov a Sabers prospect was injured, so thats why Korneev was on the top pairing. Tyutin is another highly skilled defensemen (rangers prospect) so ice time will be hard to come by for Korneev. From what I hear Tarasov is playing very good. Was a star in one of his games last week I believe.

AK Bars defense is stacked. Denisov a Sabers prospect was injured, so thats why Korneev was on the top pairing. what game are you talking about? in the game I'm talking about he was a 7th dman, not paired with anybody (that's the official pre-game lineup). with whom he played during the game and his ice-time, I cannot tell. if you have some other info, I would be very interested to know. it's good to hear that he plays well. he was indeed one of the stars in a game but it was in a game played the week before. In a game played Monday (September 15th) CSKA defeated Tarasov's team (Metallurgist Novokuznetsk) 1-0. Kostitsyn picked up an assist on the lone goal. - hock.ru/p/0/627.htm (thanks to Rimmer for the link) Apparently Tarasov didn't get to play a single minute for Team Russia in the recent tournament in the Czech Republic. However, regarding the above mentioned game against CSKA, Tikhonov (who also coaches Team Russia) said, "He constantly rescued his team in those moments when their defenders stood around slack-jawed". And I stated that Tarasov was a star in a game last week. It's good to see he's continued to do so, after shaky season last year.

Johan Eneqvist is off to a good start on his Hammarby team. The team plays in the Swedish second division/league and are 3-0 so far. In those three games Johan has 2 goals and 1 assist and is tied for third on team scoring. Good start for the 21 year old. The team page link is: www.hammarbyhockey.se/You can get updated stats and standings by clicking on the "statistik" link on the left.

Christopher Heino-Lind plays for Vallentuna in the Swedish 2nd league as well and has played in both games his team has played. He has a total of 98 minutes played and his team is 0-2. The goalie stats were pretty messed up on the site, so the save percentages were not accurate (that and it was all in Swedish).

in other games:
Sibir - Ak Bars 3:4 (Korneev played, no pts)
Metallurg Nk - Neftekhimik 3:3 (Tarasov didn't play)
