Good question skilly. I can't think of any exhibition games like this since Rendez-vous 87, and those were against NHL all star teams. I am not including any games where NHL all-stars took on Russian teams. I mean solely NHL teams vs USSR national team or Soviet club teams. The last such game was on January 15th, 1991 ... Dynamo Moscow defeated the Quebec Nordiques 4-1. Bonus points if you can name the former Hab that scored in that game.

In the same vein .... the NHL has played 114 games against USSR/Soviet based club teams since 1975. The Russian teams hold a 62-42-10 edge over the NHL teams. What was the Montreal Canadiens record against the Russian teams over this span? 5-5-0? changed it huh .. lol ... you are forgetting a very important game CH ... EDIT: I just read my question again and it can be interpreted 2 ways ... since 1975 could be read to exclude the 3-3 tie ... so I will give it to you .... We are 5-5-1 in games against Russian teams

I was just saying I couldn't think beyond those games in 1987. I knew of the tour in 1975 that saw the Red Army team play in various cities (including the leaving the ice game in Philly). I just didn't recall other tours.

I was thinking about the Nords for that game. My bad, should have thought Russian. I'm gonna say Kovalev.

I think you're right, but I'll let Skilly confirm [it being his question and all ;D] Because the closest Nordiques is Martin Rucinsky, but he left the NHL 2 years ago. So it *has* to be a Dynamo

Rosie wasn't in the NHL in January 1991. He was still playing in his home country, Czech Republic. He was also an Oilers draft pick, and didn't skate for the Nords until he was traded for Ron Tugnutt.

The scorers in that game for the Russians were Igor Dorofeyev (had 2), Kovalev, and Ravil Khaydarov The Nordique scorer was Scott Pearson Kovalev is the first Russian born player to have his name on the Stanley Cup (along with Karpovtsev, Nemchinov and Zubov) Kovalev was the first Russian born player selected in the first round of the NHL draft Kovalev was the first Russian to be captain of an NHL all-star team. And he won the Hockey News Saku Koivu's award .. for comeback player of the year.

A side note to the above post ... 20 Russians have their name on the Stanley Cup (from 10 different teams).
No Russian has won the Stanley Cup as a Hab.
I have been trying to compile a list of all Euro-born players that have their name on the Cup as a Hab. I am not familiar with the rules for getting your name on the Cup back in the original 6 days .... but so far I have ...
Europe = Naslund, Dahlin, Svoboda
Asia = Langway
South America = Chartraw

Something about Alfred Lepine and Stephane Richer scoring a whack of points in one period?
Lepine got 5 points in the second period. 1929. Richer got 5 points in the first period. 1990.

Those are the dates when the most points in a single period occured. Name the two players that share the record for most points in a single period? HINT: The feat occured 60 seasons apart (exactly 60 years and 2 months actually).

Hint: OTR. He's been on twice that I know of... once in early days after the UFA frenzy. Stephane Richer, Darcy Tucker and David Wilkie are dealt to Tampa Bay in exchange for Patrick Poulin, Mick Vukota and Igor Ulanov. ... it's almost scary to look at that roster.

I know he has a sister (Melanie), who is a college student. (could be majoring in journalism) Then there is the Jewish connection, although I realize this has nothing to do with it - Landsberg and the Cammalleri's are Jewish. On a side note Val, I think Mike is going out with Craig MacTavish's daughter. And Melanie has Jay Onrait (ewwwwww) on her Twitter page .. LOL... holy cow she is HOT!!!!

How many Jewish people have played for the Montreal Canadiens? (I can think of three) Cammy Schneider That's two I'm thinking off. The other has a royal name, was part of a trade we actually 'won' handily, and then became something of a one trick pony before being traded himself.

If you are thinking of the Polish Prince ... I dont think Czerkawski was Jewish. I can only find info on 2 Jewish hockey players that have played for the Habs ... but thats not to say I am right either. I have some sites that list Malkin as Jewish and others that say Cammalleri is the best Jewish hockey player ever and dont list Malkin at all ....
