Because I have way too much time on my hands, and I thought it might be fun and we all might learn something new in the process... Welcome to "Trivia with Val" The object of the game is to guess the correct answer [i.e. what was going through my head at the time]. Now sometimes there might be more than one answer, but in general, we are trying to find the answer that relates to a current/former Habs player/prospect. But if you find another answer, please feel free to share, as that is how we will all learn... At times, I might not have a trivia question, and I might go off on a tangent about my fave Habs players, but I'll try and keep those to a minimum.

Question number 1: Who played 56 games for the Florida Everblades? And what kind of dumb name is Everblades anyways? [The idea for this question was suggested by BLNY, who said I should put a reference to CD in my siggy line and see how long it took for someone, probably Franko to notice] Answer:Chris Dyment 2006-07 Kudos to NWTHabsFan, as he pointed out that Danick Bouchard and Doug O'Brien were also correct answers. They both played during the 2008-09 season. More random trivia: Doug is from St. John's and he played at least one hockey game in my "backyard" that we know of ;D

Question number 2: Who has a daughter named Esther? Answer:Glen Metropolit Willie Dog had the correct answer. Which means he might actually read some of the stuff I write or link to, or he's just really good More random trivia: On HabsTV, Glen says he would be pretty good on "Dancing with the Stars", but he would need a couple of weeks with his daughter to teach him the moves. She's 3

Putting "fan punching bag" in quotes makes me think .... but if I were to guess I suppose I'd have to go with Alexei Kovalev. He was promoted to captain when Saku was hurt , and fans took pot shots at him (on here at least) alot .....

I was thinking Saku but he was "the media's punching bag" not necessarily the "fan punching bag"

I was thinking Saku but he was "the media's punching bag" not necessarily the "fan punching bag" very true ... but another that got me thinking. Saku was voted captain, not promoted to captain. Promoted makes me think it was a coach's decision to make the player captain. The only players that fit that bill in recent memory is Kovalev. The last captain that I am not sure if he was voted captain was Serge Savard (and he may have been voted as well)

Well, it's 8:01 am, so here's a clue: I didn't say he was promoted to Captain of the Habs He was captain elsewhere.

So all answers pertain to "current or former Habs players/prospects" .... I am beginning to think the player was captain of the Bulldogs or something.
I can only think of 2 players that played with the Habs and went on to captain another NHL team ..... (of course maybe there are more, since I am not entirely sure of the other teams captaincies and who subs in when the captain can't play) ....
But the 2 guys who jump out at me who were Habs are Brian Skrudland and Eric Desjardins. Neither, I'd consider to be a punching bag (defining punching bag to be = got on fans nerves)

Could the "fan punching bag" be Craig Rivet?
Rivet started out as a crowd favourite but by the time he left many fans were blaming him for this, that, whatever.
Cheers.

So all answers pertain to "current or former Habs players/prospects" .... I am beginning to think the player was captain of the Bulldogs or something. First off... think like me. Frightening I know but if you think like me you'll figure it out Also keep in mind that I'm relatively new to the "wide world of hockey" and the extent of my Habs knowledge prior to this year would mostly revolve around Saku Koivu. Does that help at all? Hint number 2: he's on our roster (not a Bulldog)

well you also didn't say if it was "captain" or "alternate captain" ...
On our current roster .... everyone's fav whipping boy is Hal Gill (wears an A when he plays)
I don't remember Metropolit, or Bergeron being "punching bags" unless one was involved in boxing. Not even sure if either ever had a letter on their jersey.
Was Cammalleri captain in LA? ... I know he was an alternate captain there ... and was he a punching bag?

What about Eric Desjardins? This one hurt big time, Reap. This was the player the Flyers wanted first and foremost and they got him. LeClair and Dionne were basically throw-ins. Mark Recchi was a damn good hockey player, granted, but when we removed Carbonneau, Desjardins, LeClair and Muller from a championship team, that's quite a significant amount of experience gone. Then we wonder why we couldn't compete when Damphousse, Roy and Keane left. I know this is all past history, but even have to back to '89 to find our last player to retire as captain of our club. That was Bob Gainey. After that: Chelios = traded, Carbonneau = traded, Muller = traded, Keane = traded, Turgeon = traded, Damphousse = traded, Koivu = not re-signed. I don't know who in their right mind would want to take on that responsibility; it's a temporary job at best. [/rant] Cheers.

No kidding Dis....I'm not sure we ever recovered from that trade...it was all downhill from there IMHO.
