Danny Kristo with a big playoff game last night. The team won and he had two nice (and very different) goals and a really sweet assist in the game. This kid is exciting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=URPJ5x9IKGEMeanwhile, in Kamloops in front of a busy barn that included yours truly and seventeen (the esteemed poster!), Tim Bozon had a productive night with two goals and two assists to wrap up the regular season on a high note heading into the first round of playoffs. I was able to see all three of our WHL prospects live this week as the Saskatoon Blades were in Edmonton on Tuesday night. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdEpLOiBJVY

Kristo kinda reminds me of Ryder . Better skater, but similar hands.

They should add a goalie in this draft. None in junior Highest ranked goalie remaines Fucale in Halifax, if I'm not mistaken. I've talked about him before. I wouldn't spend a first rounder on him. I don't think his game will translate to the NHL level.

Kristo seems to do well in traffic, and has an accurate shot. Listed as a RW, those videos show a lot of off wing play (granted much is from the PP). He does move like Ryder, but with quicker feet. Should be interesting to watch him develop.

AS NWT and I discussed, Bozon was much better last year at playing in the dirty areas. This year, he's become more of a perimeter player and we saw enough of that with Gomez. You have to be willing to enter the Valleys of Death, like Gallagher does. Bozon has a lot of good things going for him, especially those quick hands, but you need some intestinal fortitude to translate that into success in the Show. Let's hope this year is an anomaly.

Darren Dietz finished off a great regular season with three helpers last night in PA. The Canadiens also announced hat they have signed him to his three year entry level deal starting next season. Congrats to him. He is #44 in blue. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY7YfaKg-QU

Good articles NWT. Thanks. Interesting to read about Kristo's competitiveness because when you hear stories about frostbitten toes and 'barefoot in the snow' stuff, you wonder about his attitude. You worry less if the guy is competitive, because that competitive drive might be the cause of his antics.

You worry less if the guy is competitive, because that competitive drive might be the cause of his antics. He has definitely been in the press for a number of wrong reasons over the years, but I am liking what I have been reading this season about his leadership, commitment to winning at UND and his competitiveness. The skill is there, you just want the head and attitude to match. I expect he will be under contract not long after his NCAA season is over, and I look forward to seeing what he can do. He was named to the all-WCHA first team, and his name is being floated around in Hobey Baker award nomination talk. Talking about all stars, Darren Dietz just was named to the WHL Eastern conference all-star first team along with Morgan Reilly...a top first rounder, so pretty good company even if he is a Leaf prospect! www.whl.ca/article/2013-whl-east-all-stars-award-finalists

Even though Dietz was drafted the year before, there's only about 8 months difference in age between the two., Dietz being older. Reilly is a great prospect, better than Dietz, but perhaps not that much better.

North Dakota lost to Colorado College tonight 4-3. One goal for Kristo. Does that mean that was his last college game? Can we bring him to Hamilton now?

UND is out of the WCHA final five, but are still pretty well a lock to get into the final playoffs leading up to the Frozen Four. Alas, he still has hockey to play. As a side note, he was named as one of the ten Hobey Baker finalists. In Saskatoon, the Medicine Hat Tigers stunned the home town division champs 4-1. Dietz with an assist on their only goal and both he and Thrower hit the iron in the third. The Memorial Cup hosts will need to regroup quickly, as game two is tomorrow night in Saskatoon before switching to that tough building on visiting teams in Medicine Hat. Hope the roads get better soon, as we just got walloped with a doozer storm and it is SK bound.

Bozon and the Blazers snuck by Victoria last night to start their WHL playoffs with a win. The Saskatoon Blades are in a deep hole early, as the Medicine Hat Tigers shut them out last night to sweep both games in Saskatoon. They go back to AB up 2-0. Not exactly the start that the division champs and Memorial Cup hosts wanted.

Four of our NCAA prospects are still playing in the four regionals, which make up the final 16 teams. Each regional winner advances to the Frozen Four.
North Dakota 8th seed (Kristo, MacMillan) Boston College 6th seed (Sullivan) Denver 9th seed (Didier)

An article in French from SRC about Danny Kristo. www.radio-canada.ca/sports/hockey/2013/03/26/001-habs-kristo-contrat.shtmlIt basically highlights that the Habs are in discussions with Danny's "family advisor" regarding contract talks as NCAA players are not allowed to have player agents. The Habs are looking to get him to join the Dogs once his season is over, which could be as early as this weekend if they lose their first game in the NCAA regional tournament. Danny talked about Martin Lapoint visiting and providing advice half a dozen times during the season and how he is very frank and helpful. I also really liked Kristo's comment about how good Montreal would be in which to play. Lapointe and Kristo have talked about his off ice incidents which is good that the Habs are proactively counselling Danny on the consequences of off ice events, as there is not bigger microscope than on Montreal Canadiens players it seems. Overall, I think this is a really positive sign that Danny will get signed sooner rather than later. No need to drag this out until the mid August deadline since his season is almost done. Not to wish North Dakota ill will in their upcoming matches though, as he does keep referencing that it has been a good season but his/their goal is to win a national championship. Go Sioux Go!!

I'd be quite happy with signing him right after he hoists the National Championship. I love guys who win. Kristo's already won a WJC championship, so that's one under his belt.

It was a tale of two seasons for the Saskatoon Blades this year. They were horrible in the first half and were teetering around and at times outside the last playoff spot. Then, they went on a tear, set a team winning streak record, and won their division.
Tonight, they come into Medicine Hat after losing both games at home in their opening playoff series, and are now down 5-0 early in the second in game three in the Hat. Dietz, Thrower and company will be playing hockey in May, but this is not how they wanted to play right now. A deep hole boys, and it is a long, long way out.

A quick update on our CHL prospects, and how their teams are doing in the playoffs so far (it is not a pretty story overall, I might add).
QMJHL
Archambault - 5 points in 4 games, his team is down 3 games to 1 and faces elimination in what could be his last CHL game of his career. I would expect he would be signed to a try out deal with Hamilton shortly thereafter if that was the case.
Hudon - He has 4 points in his 4 games and Chicoutimi trail the favoured Quebec Remparts 3-1, so he also faces elimination in the next game. The Habs could do an amateur deal with Hamilton similar to Brady Vail if he was done soon, as Hudon will be returning to play in the Q next season.
WHL
Dietz - 2 points in 4 games as the Memorial Cup hosts were shockingly swept in four straight by Medicine Hat. He gets 50 days of practice before the first game of the national championships. Wonder if the coach will last that long?!?!
Thrower - No points and the same fate as Dietz. What a mess!!
Bozon - The lone bright spot as the Blazers lead their series 2-1 against the pesky Victoria Royals. Tim has two goals in the first three games.

Archambault had a goal tonight, but his team lost so his CHL career should be done. I expect he will be getting some ice time in Hamilton soon. Charles Hudon had two goals and an assist against Grigorenko and the Remparts as Chicoutimi won 3-1 and they kept their series alive, down 3-2 now. Didier and Denver lost in the NCAA regions. That's it, that's all. Kristo had a goal as UND won 2-1 and advanced to the regional final against Yale tomorrow. Here is his goal. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg5QwlFH43o&feature=player_embedded

Yale continued their shocking weekend, knocking off UND today. That's the end of the season for MacMillan and the end of a NCAA career for Danny Kristo. Colin Sullivan and Boston College are done too.

Not sure how much value he has outside the organization. He becomes a UFA this summer if not signed.
