With Archambault's CHL career over, here is a peek at his last goal in the Q. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyUM05l22lICharles Hudon and Chicoutimi lost to Quebec, so their season is over. They lost 4-3 in OT lst night and Hudon was in on all the goals with one goal and two assists. He is #10 in blue. Check out the effort on his goal. Amazing play at the blueline. By the way, he is off to join the Dogs too similar to Vail. I really like what management is doing with the 19 year olds, very proactive considering the kids are still junior eligible. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qy-TnHnt2A

It is a very quiet time for news about our prospects, as most have seen their seasons come to a close in one form or another or are on the last stretch of their seasons. However, Mac Bennet of the U of Michigan Wolverines looks to be staying for his senior season and has been named as the team's captain for the 2013-14 season. Congrats Mac! www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/041113aaa.htmlI think him staying his final NCAA season makes sense given the logjam of very young defenders in Hamilton right now and into next season where the youngest AHL blueline could get younger with the possible additions of Dietz, Thrower and hopefully Nygren.

Tim Bozon returned from a hand injury for the start of the Blazers third round series against the powerhouse Portland Winterhawks. He was held scoreless in the first two games, both won by Portland. Last night he and the boys must have liked the home cooking as they won big in front of their supporters and Tim had two goals, two assists in a big 5-1 win. The Blazers trail 2-1 in the western conference final now. Edit: Here are the highlights. blazerhockey.com/video/index/id/fb3aa77081b9953402853fce09b19ba9

Danny Kristo was named to Team USA for the upcoming World Hockey Championships being held in Sweden/Finland in early May. Good for Danny, as his season continues at a very high calibre!! www.habseyesontheprize.com/latest-news/2013/4/25/4266078/danny-kristo-to-represent-the-usaIn the WHL, Portland shut out Kamloops and now lead the series 3-1 heading back to Portland. As a result, Tim Bozon and his team face elimination next game on the road against the top team in the CHL.

It's a huge opportunity for him, and speaks to how well he's thought of in hockey circles.

Awesome opportunity for Kristo. I'm sure Bergevin & Co. lobbied hard to get him on the team. The Worlds is a perfect place to get Kristo used to NHL calibre hockey. Despite the star power, it's really not a tournament that people in North America care too much about, given that so many players can't play. So there shouldn't be a ton of pressure on Kristo. He certainly has the wheels to keep up. It will be interesting to see if he can make plays and be a factor (although I'm sure he will be a 4th liner/energy guy at best).

Looks like Tim Bozon will be suiting up for France, who will make a short visit to the Worlds before likely being relegated after the tournament. Great experience for young Tim who still has a year of junior eligibility left. www.kamloopsthisweek.com/sports/205159901.html

Slovakia beat France 6-2 today but young Tim had an assist on one of the French goals. He also managed just under 11 minutes of ice time on the fourth line.

The US prevailed against Austria 5-3 yesterday and Danny boy had two helpers. Nice debut in the Worlds! They are back on TSN2 later today if you are so inclined.

Fournier continues to be hot, scoring big goals for the Mooseheads. I really think he's worth an invite. Fantastic hands, great size, and while he's not fast he's got good footwork. His goal last night was a nice post up spin move and roof over goal. He also showed his toughness last night. Things got very chippy in the last 5 mins. He got in a fight defending a team mate.

Charles Hudon signed a 3-year contract today. It is a year early, but good for him. He is too young to play in the AHL so it should slide a year when he is returned to his junior team next fall.

France did not advance to the medal round, so Tim Bozon's season is over.
Danny Kristo had the US's only goal today in a 4-1 loss to Slovakia to finish up the preliminary round. Alex Galchenyuk played as well and logged over 15 minutes of ice time...novel concept. The US advance to the medal round, so they are still alive and well.
In addition to the kids, Diaz is playing on the Swiss team, Subban in on Team Canada, and Pleky is with the Czech team. The Swiss won Canada's group and both are advancing to the next round. The Czech are battling surprising Norway for the final playoff spot in their group.
EDIT: The Czechs smoked Norway 7-0 today to take the last spot in that group and ending Norway's cinderella run. Pleky led the team with 3 assists (go figure). He gets to take on teammate Diaz and the Swiss in their quarterfinal match.

Am I the only one that actually remembered that Patrick Carnback once played for the Canadiens?
Sheesh.
Anywhoo, Nygren was defenseman of the year in the SEL last season, and that's a good thing as the kids like to say.

Not sure how accurate this is, but here's a report stating that the Habs have signed or are signing Magnus Nygren. www.habsfuture.com/Lots of chatter about it, but not yet on the official sites. TVA reported that it is pending the final signing of the NHL Europe player transfer agreement which should be soon. Either way, the Habs only have until June 1st to sign a few guys like Nygren, Archambault and Pribyl. Nygren is already holding his own as an offensive defender in the SEL, so he is further along in his development than some of the younger prospects. Just not sure how many of that type of defenders we need at one time. We are overdue more beef and grit back there.

I imagine Kristo will get the max as he has a bit of leverage Of all our farm kids, Kristo is my least favorite. Older than the others so I expext more. Hold his feet to the fire. He is fast (good), ordinary shot, small (fits right in), shoots instead of passing. Meh.

Both Darren Dietz and Dalton Thrower get to come out of partial retirement this Friday as they make their Memorial Cup debut on Friday against London. The Blades were swept by Medicine Hat in the first round of the WHL playoffs, so their team has been sitting (and practicing) for a long time without any semblance of real playoff action. It will be interesting to see how they fare against the top three rating CHL teams, all of whom won their respective leagues. It could be ugly for the Blades, but let's hope not for the sake of our kids and their Memorial Cup experience.
Have a peek at some of the draft eligible kids taking part...this is a scout's dream!
Halifax (#1 CHL ranked at end of season) Nathan MacKinnon (CSB ranked #2 North American skater) Jonathan Drouin (CSB #3) Matthew Murphy (CSB #114) Zach Fucale (CSB #1 ranked NA Goalie)
Portland (#2 CHL ranked at end of season) Seth Jones (CSB #1) Nic Petan (CSB #33) Oliver Bjorkstrand (CSB #36)
London (#3 CHL ranked at end of season) Bo Horvat (CSB #15) Max Domi (CSB #19) Nikita Zadorov (CSB #22) Remi Elie (CSB #71) Dakota Mermis (CSB #95) Kyle Platzer (CSB #110)
If you look at a lot of mock drafts and draft lists, that is 7 guys with a very good chance of being taken in the first round next month. Amazing!!
The potentially best player this tournament could be St Louis's 2011 second rounder (32nd overall) Ty Rattie who had a massive WHL playoffs. He ended up setting WHL playoff career records. Portland has a host of drafted highly ranked kids, so there will be a ton of talent on display. London just got awarded next year's tournament, so they know they will be at their third straight next year.
One game a night starting on Friday, all games on Sportsnet.
Give junior hockey a watch if you have time!!

Matt Murphy has come on strong of late. He might be a climber. With Abeltshauser and Lewis eating a lot of minutes, he and Weegar have been getting steadily better behind them.
Moose start with Portland. Stiff test right off the hop.

Team USA just smoked Russia 8-3 in the Quarterfinals of the worlds. Gally had a sweet goal. Kristo also played with Palushaj on the fourth line. 19 year old John Gibson shut the door for he US and Craig Smith had five helpers. AO and friends did not get it done against the young American upstarts. EDIT: Here is Gally's goal...in Russian to boot!! Sweet mitts in tight to the goalie. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSR29X00xbo&feature=player_embedded

Just a reminder that the last round robin game of the Memorial Cup is tonight on Sportsnet and features Dietz and Thrower. Good to see the Berg and Timmins at the game last night, as Sportsnet interviewed Bergevin during the game.
This will be an all-WHL game with host Saskatoon taking on the league champion Portland Winterhawks. Weirdly enough, if the Blades win they advance straight to Sunday's final. If they lose, they play London tomorrow night in the tie breaker.
Either way, our two prospects have at least two more games to their season including tonight.
Dietz is #44 and Thrower is #47.

Good game so far. Dietz playing well. Thrower hit a Porttland player and almost knocked him out. Got him in the chest but then the Portland player (Leier?) had his head come forward and make contact with Thrower's shoulder pad. No penalty on the play.

Thrower just levelled a Winterhawk with an open ice hit. First point of contact was chest, but slid up and hit the head knocking Leier out. It was a big hit. No penalty on the play, but the game intensity is up a notch now.
Edit: what 17 said lol.

Huge penalty kill of a double minor by the Blades to end the second. Gutsy performance by them so far. Both our lads logging lots of minutes. Dietz has not been able to unload his bomb yet.

The NHL disciplinarians have rendered a decision on Dalton Thrower's open ice hit from last night against Portland's Leier.
Thrower has been suspended for the remainder of the Memorial Cup.
Saskatoon has to bounce back from last night's loss as they are playing an elimination tie breaker tonight against London. Winner is off to the Semi, loser it out. The game is on Sportsnet and will now feature only one Hab prospect, Darren Dietz who should play a ton of minutes (even moreso than usual).
