Dick Van Dyke at 89, and his wife, Arlene Silver, 42.
How about that? Talk about a guy who's had (and is still having) quite a life….

... not sure where I found this one, but I keep coming back to this one ... Sister Rosetta Tharpe influenced such greats as Little Richard, Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis ...

A scrollable Top 100 songwriters' list, according to Rolling Stone. I'm sure there are omissions and disagreements….good for discussion, regardless. I know Rolling Stone is a very political institution. There are some groups/artists who will never be recognized by them…either on a Top list or as inductees to their Hall of Fame. In this list, they covered blues, folk, country, rock & roll, R&B, soul, funk, pop rock, MOR, rap/hip-hop, grunge, punk…. BUT…seeing as they've included Burt Bacharach and Hal David….then where are the writers of classic Broadway/show tunes that were heavy contributors to 20th century culture? Prolific writers like George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, etc. How about Andrew Lloyd Weber? Talk about prolific. Where are Jimmy Page and Robert Plant? Other eras/genres not touched: Big Band era (1940s), which evolved from the blues and led directly to rock & roll. Metal, hard rock, progressive rock, and jazz are missing, too. Not musically comprehensive by any means. But politically sound, I suppose. ROLLING STONE'S TOP 100 SONGWRITERS

Another signature singer/songwriter of Rock/R&B.. Thanks, Dis! Before they were The Bob Seger System....they were Bob Seger & The Last Heard....and had a hit called, "Heavy Music". Soundtrack of my childhood. Fondly recall this one playing on CKLW (Windsor/Detroit) back in the day. Seger will be 71 this year....and I think he's still touring. Hasn't got the range he once had....but few do as they age....

I'm really sipping on a gin and tonic.... Andy and Barney are one of the best TV comedy duos ever created....right up there with Kramden and Norton. No wonder Don Knotts won 5 Emmys (1961, 62, 63, 66, 67) for Best Supporting Actor. Brilliant! This clip is from a 1965 Special, featuring Dep. Fife's classic backfiring hubris. They did the same sort of scene in an episode, but the topic was the Preamble to the Constitution.

It's dated 2013, but Rolling Stone Magazine released their 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s ... here are some triggers from those albums ... I used to own all of these albums less two (Aerosmith/Montrose) ... Black Sabbath "Master of reality" was the 2nd Album I'd ever bought ... saw a local Ottawa rock band, Fist, do a near-perfect rendition of Zepplin's "Kashmir" at Barrymore's ... never had the time for ACDC until I met my future wife ... it was one of her favourite bands and I actually ended up liking them after all ... my son is a bit ACDC fan, too ... "Machine Head" was an unbelievable album ... I think it has a case for the top album on the list ... we used to warm up in drama class to "Paranoid" ... something about shaking the sillys out ... it was the 3rd album I'd bought and ended up with Sabbath's first six albums when I stopped buying them ... Cheers.

I don't know a lot of Thornetta Davis' material, but this one hooked me in ... haven't heard of Sheringham Seaside gin, though ... I looked it up on the LCBO site and it didn't come up, but I'm always looking to try products I haven't tried before ... I'm kind of partial to Bombay Saffire gin, myself ... Beefeater is a quality gin, too ... Cheers.

Sheringham Seaside Gin won World Gin Awards World's Best Contemporary Gin 2019. It's made in a small distillery outside of Sooke BC. I also tried their Kazuki Gin which uses cherry blossom and green tea as aromatics and found it equally outstanding. I've heard they also make a world class whisky which apparently sold out within days. Their cocktail recipes are pretty good too. They do ship within BC for sure. Not sure about Ontario. I'm not a big fan of gin but this stuff made an immediate impression.

Infused with cucumber and rose. There's a gin distillery in my area. I find their aromatics so strong, there's no sense mixing it--unless you'd like a perfume martini...or a kerosene G&T. Best to drink it straight, because that's all you taste anyway. Then again, I'm open to my gin palate needing more experience/education. Distillery tour!

It's funny, you'll get scotch elitists that will only drink single malt, but I was over at my cousins and he gave me a wee dram of Johnnie Walker Blue Label and daaaammmmmnnnnn is it a smooth scotch, it rivaled the 21 yr old Aberfeldy and the 25 year Tomintoul I had tried, but at $300 CDN a bottle, it's expensive.

Single-malts, eh ... Talisker 10 is my favourite ... anything in the Obin line is just fine with me, too ... Balvenie Double Wood is up there, too ... I've pretty much boycotted anything in the Johnny Walker line (both the Black and Red labels are bathwater, IMHO), but I'd like to try the Blue at some point ... as an aside, I can't remember the Kentucky Bourbon I was sipping on at HFLA's place, but that was aces, man ... by the way, my new go-to beers are Michelob Ultra and Miller Genuine Draft ... Cheers.
