Have been hooked on this ever since I read another thread about a year ago. Season 3 premiered last night. Everyone at Kings Landing owes a debt of gratitude to Prince Tyrion for leading the defence of the city. More so, when young King Joffrey decided to scamper away from the battle (right in front of his men) rather than lead the defence of his city.

Here there be dragons. And zombies and giants and dwarves and dire wolves and a scumbag little boy-king who needs to lose his smug, smarmy head.
After 10 long months, Season 3 of Game of Thrones kicked off Sunday night on HBO Canada, and already we can see the pieces being put into play for the intrigue, betrayal and death - lots of death - that lies ahead this season.
Here are our favourite moments from the premiere.
Winter is here
In the episode's (literal) cold open we witnessed the aftermath of the White Walkers' massacre of the Night's Watch rangers in the frozen waste north of the Wall. The bloodied group of survivors, led by Lord Commander Jeor Mormont (James Cosmo), must now hightail it back to the Wall to warn the rest of the world that ice zombies are indeed real. "Or before winter's done, everyone you've ever known will be dead!" says Mormont. Consider the stakes raised.
Points of interest
Fans know you can't skip past the opening credits of Game of Thrones, because the clockwork map shows locations that will be featured in that episode. It was cool to see Dragonstone and Astapor on the map for the first time, but the charred and smoking Winterfell was a punch in the heart.
Big man in camp
We're not sure which was better: seeing an actual giant in the wildling camp beyond the Wall, or the wide-eyed reaction Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) had to it.
Sibling rivalry
Now that the wounded Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is no longer Hand of the King, there's a big bullseye on his little back, with his scheming sister Cersei (Lena Headey) nocking an arrow and drawing the string. Bad, bad blood.
Kill the witch
The verbal showdown between not-dead-after-all Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) and the scary, sexy red priestess Melisandre (Carice van Houten) was full of brimstone and poison. Melisandre pushed Davos's buttons so effectively that he tried to stab her, only to be restrained and tossed in the dungeon.
Daddy issues
Tyrion puts on a brave face, but when his father Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) laid into him, you could see the hurt. "To teach me humility, the gods have condemned me to watch you waddle about wearing that proud lion," says dad. Ouch.
Cutting mommy out
The ambitious and clever Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) began driving a calculated wedge between Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and mom Cersei. But Cersei is a master of the game, and she knows what's up. Margaery better plan her moves carefully.
Little so-and-so
It's a good thing Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) doesn't understand the language spoken by slave trader Kraznys mo Nakloz (Dan Hildebrand), whose stream of amazingly profane insults made quite the impression on us. Hooray for subtitles.
Dany's got a new friend
The episode ended with the surprise return of legendary knight Barristan Selmy (Ian McElhinney), the former Lord Commander of the Kingsguard who, after being demeaned by Joffrey and Cersei in Season 1, quit in disgust and hadn't been seen since. Now he's back on Team Targaryen in their quest to retake the Iron Throne. Which is kind of like having Kobe join your pickup game of hoops. This is going to be interesting.
