Amazing Wildlings-White Walkers sequence.
Tremendous amount of work and talent in post-production.
That goes for the whole series, but those scenes were mesmerizing.
At the end, I was shouting, "Row, you idiots, row!"
But they were too stunned by what happened, as illustrated by the pic BC posted.
Apparently, they're not the White Water-Walkers, White Waders, or White Swimmers…..

I read somewhere that this season will not be following the books and that more main characters were going to be killed off ... my understanding is that since Martin has been too busy with production . . . and may be involved with something else that he is no where near to completing the 6th book . . . so the producers are going off on their own, and when Martin does finish the series it may look nothing like the HBO series.

Costco has the books now ... might look at picking them up and starting from the beginning ... quite the series ... will be getting tickets for the season finale at the local Odeon Cineplex whenever they come out ... Cheers.

There isn't very much this season that is the same as the books ... All story lines , except Arya so far, are gone way off from the book storyline

The Odeon Cineplex Season 5 finale sold out in less than half a day here in town ... they're looking at opening another theatre, but they have to see how some of the other releases are doing first ... there's nothing like seeing GoT on the big screen ... don't pass up the chance to see it in the theatres if you can ...
Cheers.

As a book reader the show finally has a real element of unknown, and is more exciting for that reason. My assumption is that there is a fair amount of collaboration in the writing process between Martin and the show's writers, to ensure alignment with his vision for the story. Though as Skilly mentions this season has been a departure from the books. Can't say that I'm disappointed though. The final 20 minutes of this week's episode was among the best in the entire series IMO.

Too many good shows in that series, Andrew ... a hard call ... the "The Red Wedding" was the one that caught me off guard the most ... Brienne got a loud ovation in the theatre after taking out The Hound in last season's finale ... the episode that focused strictly on the Wildlings attack on The Wall was extremely well done ... now looking to see where Tyrion and Daenerys are going ... can't believe the season finale is coming up already ... Cheers.

And Bran for that matter, who we haven't heard from this season. I have a feeling he'll have a big part to play at some point. Perhaps using his skill with animals to take control of one of the dragons?

The Battle of Blackwater was outstanding, as was Tyrion's speech to the troops just before they engaged Stannis Baratheon's army outside the walls ... "don't fight for riches or gold, because you won't get it" ... never thought I'd see Tyrion take out his father, Tywin Lannister, with a crossbow while he was sitting on the privy ... forgot about Bran Stark and his entourage ... oh yeah, speaking of vile characters, I haven't seen Walder Frey this year either ... he has a pretty good relationship with House Bolton, but I'm not so sure how he'll react to knowing that Sansa Stark is alive and well and now married to another whack-job, Ramsay Bolton ... we're also seeing some cracks in the armour of Theon Greyjoy ... he's already established a rapport with Sansa and I'd like to see where that goes, too ... Cheers.

Fearless predictions from one who hasn't read the books:
* Ollie, the kid whose parents were killed by the Wildlings, tries to kill Jon Snow but accidentally kills Sam instead. Jon becomes King of the Wildlings, and he leads them and the dwindling remnants of the Nights Watch as one army.
* Ramsay Bolton kills Stannis, perhaps as early as this week, and Melisandre the Red Woman takes over Stannis's army. With her mythical powers and general creepiness she rules with a fierceness that makes Joffrey look like a Stark. This is army #2.
* Daenerys and Tyrion cross the narrow sea with their dragons. Army #3. Perhaps, as suggested by Andrew, the dragons will be controlled by Bran in the final battles.
These three armies will take turns waging war against each other, the Lannisters and their allies (who will also be dealing with a full-out civil war in Kings Landing), and eventually against the White Walkers (the true battle), where they will have to unite to save humanity. Jon, Tyrion, and the Red Woman all die, while Sansa and Arya live. Daenerys takes the Iron Throne and unites what is at this point a devastated wasteland of a kingdom.
So there.

The American tourist who was mauled to death by a lion on a South African safari has been identified as a 29-year-old film editor who worked on an Emmy winning episode of Game of Thrones – as the tour guide who tried to save her life relived the moment he suffered a heart attack during the horrifying incident.
Katherine Chappell, who was in Africa raising money for a charitable organization that protects animals from poachers, was killed by the lioness as she took pictures during a drive through the popular Lion Park, near Johannesburg, on Monday afternoon.
Her identity emerged as tour guide Pierre Potgieter, 66, told Daily Mail Online how he had suffered a heart attack as he tried to save Miss Chappell's life. link

Unbelievable finish to Season 5 ... thoroughly disappointed Mrs Dis ... I guess I shouldn't be surprised by anything since they killed off Eddard Stark in Season 1 ... but I am just the same ...
Cheers.

If you like the character, they will die. If you don't like the character, eventually they will die.

I feel for those who haven't watched yet. I couldn't watch until now so avoiding spoilers was very difficult. No matter where I went on the web, GOT was a story. Even though the spoilers were sort of spoiler free, putting an image of a caracter beside the headline (ex: recap of shocking death) kind of ruined it for me. I am trying to figure out the end game though. I don't think it can be finished in one book so I wonder how many seasons that this show will go on.

Its also frustrating because every interesting character (good or bad) gets killed off. Sam, Arya, Bran, Brienne bore me and Danerys plot line isn't my favourite either. With her story, it's like watching another show, since there is no interaction with the other kingdoms.

One thing that I've been thinking about is that we saw 3 presumed deaths of significance in the last episode, but we didn't actually see definitive proof of death in each case.
Jon Snow: stabbed a bunch of times and left on the ground to die. Assumed that he's gone, but with the show ending and no follow up story line we don't know for sure. This did all happen while Melisandre is at Castle Black, and we know that she has some pretty powerful magic at her disposal.
Stannis: we saw everything, including the windup to lop off his head, and then cut away to a different scene. Seems a bit odd. The show doesn't usually miss an opportunity to show us a good old beheading. Why spare us the details?
Myrcella: we saw her suffering from the effects of the poison, but didn't actually see her croak. Could Bron have had more of the poison antidote on him?
On the other side of the coin we saw what looked like "the Mountain", Gregor Clegane back from the dead.
Maybe they are all done and I'm over thinking it, but none of those really felt final to me. Guess we'll see what happens next year.

I've really enjoyed the show so much that I made the plunge 2 weeks ago and bought paperback box set. Once I get on vacation, I plan to be reading quite a bit and catch up on some tidbits/variations that aren't in the show.

Costco has them right now ... might look into it ... if I can make time to blog, then I should be able to make time to read a set of novels ... GoT might be missing a few of its fans ... people are getting tired of seeing their top characters killed off ... kind of miffed me, too ... not to the point where I'll boycott Season 6 ... Cheers.

Ditto, I don't mind when it happens once in a while, but when it happens every season it gets hard to commit emotionally to the show. Once bitten, twice shy!!

Guess we'll see what happens next year. SPOILERS!! AND CONJECTURE There are a bunch of theories on Jon. He wargs into Ghost, Melisandre saves him, he is the son of Lyanna ... the book ended much the same as the show with this storyline. But I've heard that Kit Harrington (the actor that plays Jon Snow) is not signed on for the next season. But, one story in the book, that has not been played out on the show is that Catelyn Snow is not dead. So if they bring her back, it would be the same as bringing Jon back (same magic), and the fact he isn't signed on means little cause they havent used Catelyn in 2 seasons now. Stannis: The book hasn't killed him off. Actually, this entire battle happened COMPLETELY different in the book. The most drastic difference being that Sansa was never given to the Boltons, and it was Jeene Poole pretending to be Arya that Ramsay married. Myrcella: Again totally different than the book. She isn't dead in the book, and isn't on a boat to King's Landing. In fact, Tristane is over in the free cities trying to woo Daenerys. Gregor: same as book. Be interesting to see where this story goes. All bets are off now, since they've gone off script from the book so much (and they really had no choice since Martin is taking his time with it)... but cant wait for the next one
