Keep an eye on the Anaheim Ducks. They're lights out this year, especially at home, but their powerplay is decidedly mediocre. With the news that Sheldon Souray will not be back this year their "internal options" for improving in that area aren't looking so good anymore. Luca Sbisa is also due to return from injury soon, and he could help out some there, but I would bet more on the Ducks looking for external help for what they hope to be a LONG playoff run. The Ducks also have two first rounders and two second rounders to play with in this year's draft.
Markov would be an excellent addition for them, though I think they would probably prefer somebody who shoots right handed. Saku's influence might come into play here. If it comes to that would Sbisa and a 2nd rounder be enough for us?

After watching Markov struggle again last night I have no idea what his value is. His mobility looks seriously comprimised.
I know Anaheim would insulate him to some extent but I don't know if he could fetch a player & a high pick.

I think maybe wearing down as season goes along, he's playing too many minutes for a guy his age

Why not Patrick Maroon and Lindholm and we throw in our second? After all, we are going to finish off the PP is we don't get some degree of offense back.

Hey, if Bergevin can pull that off I would be all for it. But I don't think the Ducks are all that eager to trade a 19 year old, former 6th overall draft pick who is already playing close to 20 minutes a game for them in Lindholm. I picked Sbisa because he's a young defenseman who can play in the NHL already. He's not going to be a star, but then I don't think we're going to get a star for Markov anymore. Not with his contract status, age, injury history and, shall we say "sporadic" play of late. But if Bergevin can, more power to him. I only chose the Ducks because they look like a good trade fit for us. A contending team that has a mediocre powerplay... And who just found out that the guy they were hoping would step in to help their powerplay isn't coming back this year (Souray). So I definitely think they will be in the market for a specialist like that, and I also think that Markov would be more willing to waive his no trade clause to go there. As opposed to say Edmonton. Just speculating anyways.

Then why? I rather have more and give a little more then plain, sign-any-time-the-off-season filler.

6' 2", 207 lbs and some decent offensive upside. I'd certainly consider him. He was drafted in 2008, which for some reason was a gold mine for defensemen. Starting from the top, there was Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo, Schenn, Myers, Colton Teubert, Karlsson, Jake Gardiner, Sbisa, Del Zotto, Tyler Cuma, John Carlson in Round one and then in Round Two - Voynov, Cody Goloubef, and it starts to weaken after that, except for these guys....Roman Josi of Nashville, Weircioch of Ottawa, Justin Schultz, Travis Hamonic, and Marco Scandella of Minny. That's an incredible number of solid defensemen to come out of one draft. Sbisa was in there, so is he one of the good guys or not so good guys? Odds are the former simply because of the quality of the draft for dmen. Fifteen dmen in the first two rounds are regular NHL defensemen (I didnt include Sbisa or it would be 16). BTW, that's the same draft Pateryn was taken in round 5. The highlighted guys are the ones that didn't make it or are not developing well.
Besides, Sbisa is Italian and we haven't had one on the team since Phil Roberto and Sergio Momesso, two good guys.

Hockeydb has him born in Ozieri, Italy. ?? I'd have more luck believing he is Swiss if his last name was Rolex, Nestle, or "StolenWWIIpaintings". Yes, I think I recall in his draft year as being described as Swiss and certainly, they have a better hockey system than Italy's, which would feature 8 foot by 8 yard nets. I was born in Italy, so I can say that

According to Renaud Lavoie a trade for P.A. Parenteau getting close. Third line guy, unless you're playing with Taveres. OK player, but who goes the other way? And are we catching a guy on the down slope? Mostly an AHL'er until he caught on with the Rangers in 2009 at the age of 26. Couple of good to very good years with the Islanders and almost a PPG with Colorado when he signed with them last season, but he's back down to 26 points in 41 games this year. Now 30 years old turning 31 in March. I think he'd be an improvement over many of our forwards, but depending on what we give back, I'd hate to think a primary reason is his last name.

French wasn't a priority for Bergevin in Chicago. I don't get the sense that French speaking players are a priority (which for me is all the more reason to remove the priority from the coaching ranks). He did put up ppg numbers last year in his first year in Colorado. Duschene can make guys look good too. Perhaps MacKinnon took his spot on the first line and that's why his numbers have dropped this year. He's got one more point than Desharnais. With two years left at $4 million a season, I'm not sure what you send the other way. He isn't exactly big. 5'11 and 195lbs. Scouting report on PA reads as one would expect. Not big, doesn't play big. Average skater. Very good offensive instincts. Can play all 3 forward positions. A slightly bigger Desharnais imo. If the Avs were thin at center, perhaps. They've got Duschene, Stastny and O'Reilly though. forecaster.thehockeynews.com/hockeynews/hockey/player.php?2515What does Colorado need? Looking at their roster, they're not exactly deep on defense. Erik Johnson, Jan Hejda, Ryan Wilson, and Cory Sarich are what appear to be the top 4. Not much offense from that group. Maybe a PMD? Diaz + ?

I'm just extrapolating. If one feels that the Gorges of this year is the Gorges to get used to, then trading him isn't a bad idea. Parenteau is a top six winger that can play either side. He hurt his knee this year, and some Avs fans feel that is part of the reason his numbers have dipped. He's had strong seasons with two different clubs. He definitely a power play producer, which wouldn't hurt to have. Gorges is a top 4 guy. He'll never produce offensively. He'll eat up minutes, and be efficient. If Parenteau came in and gave the level of production he gave last year or the year before, we win the deal imo. If all he does is produce at 50 points a season, it's a wash. I'd also think that Bergevin would then have to fill Gorges' spot in the roster with someone from outside the club.

Gio, Briere and even Bourque are going nowhere. then, Gorges id's our #3 to be replaced by . . .? especially if Berg wants to trade Markov. what a mess.

Apparently the asking price is Prust so talks with us got considerably colder... As they should. That move doesn't make a lot of sense from an Avs pov. They need help on the left side of their defense. Gorges would be an upgrade for them to be sure. Franko, Gallagher is largely a RW, so this move shouldn't affect him. Briere and Bourque on the other hand ...
