***Canadiens acquire Dubnyk for futures*** could have had him on waivers .... What the fu*k....inept management when you could of got him for free. They did get him for free. Actually, they got him for better than free - they got the Preds to pay them to take him!

Oilers and Preds are already paying for big chunks of his salary. Cheap cheap pickup for Montreal. Exactly, a cheaper way than via waivers. Cheap insurance move. He's a big guy. Can he play in front of the net on the PP?

Dave Stubbs dave_Stubbs Price practised lightly yesterday. #Habs acquire Dubnyk for short-term depth or because Price is ailing a little... worse than thought #hio Dave Stubbs dave_Stubbs For future considerations, creating present panic: goalie Devan Dubnyk #Habs bound from Preds. Budaj's backup if Price injury lingers...

My main concern is Price's health...
But Dubnyk is only 27....and, as mentioned above, perhaps Waite can get his confidence back.
Whatever.....now let's get some help SCORING 5-ON-5!!!!

He's a UFA and if he doesn't work out, no loss. If he improves and Waite can work with him, maybe we can trade sign and trade him at the draft.

Unless something bigger is going on, I have no idea how this braintrust works... We always think that but it never happens.

Yup. then you look at Tampa, where Yzerman took over at about the same time as Bergevin. They have a coach who seems to know what he's doing. They got an above average goaltender for a guy having a hot year who has now been put on waivers by his other team, and they've traded a declining, 38 year old well known asset; for 2 months from a heart and soul player who isn't the best scorer, a first rounder in 2015 which is being touted as a deep draft and a 2nd rounder this year. Somehow, they keep getting better. We keep wallowing despite having some decent players.

St Louis is still more than a ppg player. He's still on a favorable contract. He still plans to play beyond this contract. Picks are no guarantee, and if Callahan did decide to sign an extension the Rangers get a first. Bishop was a steal for sure, but the Lightning are not better from this trade today.

Kings get Gaborik. Trade call pending. Looks like player, pick and CBJ eating a big chunk of salary.
Isles better get moving on Vanek.

St Louis stamps his feet and cries, gives one team name as the only team he'll accept a trade to. Yzerman gets useful assets out of it. AMAZING deal for Tampa.

Will the leaders there keep him focused? Health is my only question. He's not going to grind, so he's not a Sutter player. He can skate and he can score.

Return for Gaborik is Matt Frattin and 2 picks.
That's not a significant return imo, pending what the picks are. Frattin is a declining prospect. he's 25. Prices for Vanek and Moulson have to be dropping, otherwise they're not moving.
EDIT: Looking like a 2nd and a 3rd. Thin, especially when you factor CBJ is eating a lot of the remaining salary.

Columbus must have more plans....as they're sitting in a wild-card spot at the moment.
Gaborik wasn't lighting it up...but he's certainly more of a threat than Frattin.

Unless they've got a sign and trade in place with Moulson, it doesn't make much sense. I can't see Vanek going there, and signing.

That value should impact return on Moulson and Vanek. I understand why both teams are holding out trying to get a lot. Islanders want to recoup the investment they made in acquiring Vanek, but they have to bite the bullet soon. there are a bunch of teams interested, but if the asking price isn't dropping ...

No, the Rangers win this hands down short term. The key is that first rounder in 2015 and how the Rangers will do points wise next year. With luck (and Yzerman seems to have some of that), it turns into a top 5 pick of some kind, St. Louis retires in 2 years and then it looks much better for Tampa.

Bourque isn't exactly easy to move. Everyone knows his short comings. If the only offer is the devil you don't know, or a worse one, sometimes it's best not to make that move ... if it's there to begin with.
