an upside for the player, though, no? If they are able to trade him to a contender...then for sure. The Blades are not expected to be anywhere near a playoff team. Come on Oil Kings, get a deal done!!! I am very selfish that way.

It is now official, Nikita Scherbak has been traded to the Everett Silvertips due to the Blades having three imports, one more than is allowed under league rules. Everett should be a better team than Saskatoon this season, so hopefully he gets some playoff action out of the deal. It is too bad for moi as Everett does not visit Edmonton this season, unlike Saskatoon who comes here twice. I guess I won't be seeing the kid live this year unless I do some travelling to BC to catch a game when the Silvertips are there. www.whl.ca/article/blades-trade-scherbak-to-silvertips

NWT, how good do you think Everett is going to be? I don't see too many recognizable names on that roster, so I wonder if Scherbak is going to be the only offensive guy again?

Saw that. Rough start to the year, just when it looked he was turning into a player.

McCarron out 6 weeks with shoulder injury Too bad. He was looking good again in exhibition. Setbacks can only make him stronger if he has what it takes.

Bergevin and Therrien have some decisions to make ... Nygren, Dietz, Pateryn have all shown improvement ... Tinordi was steady last night, too ... and, to be fair, Bouillon had a pretty good game ... I think Beaulieu is a lock ... just an opinion ...
Cheers.

Scherbak made his Silvertips debut tonight. 2g 1a and a second star in a 5-4 losing cause.
Our other WHL prospect Brett Lernout was on the winning end of a 5-4 game in Vancouver, with yours truly in attendance.

You get around NWT . How did Lernout look? Lernout is a big puzzle for me. TT got the Berg to use up his 4th round pick to move up in the third to get Lernout, so they were clearly targeting him and worried that some other team had him on their radar. Many were a bit shocked by this at the time, as there still were a number of more recognizable names left at the time. He is a big boy, and although he tips the scales at just over 200lbs, he still looks lanky so I expect he will fill out nicely. He skates well enough for a big guy, seems to have decent positioning, battles hard along the boards, makes a safe first pass, and gets his shots on or towards the net. He seems to have a heavy slap shot, but more often uses his wrist shot to get shots through. He plays on the second pairing behind Heatherington and Martin, but should get decent ice time now that Dallas is keeping First rounder Honka up. I expect Lernout projects to be that big physical defensive first guy in the pros, so it will be interesting to see how he develops. He did not get any points last night, but ended up +2, so I thought he had a decent if unspectacular game. The sort you want from this kind of defender.

Thanks NWT. There were a few things I liked about those highlights. Firstly, and this has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with character, I really liked the way he celebrated the points. Yes, he pumped his arms or whatever, but then it was immediately over to the other players to celebrate together and to spread the credit. When the Dman scored on Everett's last goal, he raced over to congratulate him. I love his character.
Secondly, as Dis pointed out, he has a really quick release and he finds open ice. It's looking more and more like Timmins and Co have hit at least a double on this kid with upside for a triple or more. The only downside I saw in that game was that Scherbak was on the ice for the OT goal against, though I don't know if he played a role in it or not.

Scherbak reminds me of Richer out there. Not as fast perhaps, but rangy, shoots from the off wing really well, can wrist it or slap.

Scherbak reminds me of a bigger version of Andre Kostitsyn only Kostitsyn had better wheels ... I think there's plans for Scherbak, though ... the way our team keeps evolving it wouldn't surprise me to see him in Montreal ahead of schedule ... Cheers.

There were a few rushes for Scherbak, with the really long stick, where he looked like Richer. He seems like a bright kid. If the talent grows, and he's got the smarts, he'll be there sooner rather than later. That's for sure.

Tim Bozon has been assigned to Kootenay of the WHL. I guess they preferred that option over sending him down to the ECHL.
He will get to play lots, which will be critical in his continued recovery.

Scherbak had another goal and an assist last night in their 6-2 win over Portland.
He now has 6 points in his first three games with Everett.
