Really looking forward to seeing both progress as professionals. Mike will be the bull in a china shop and Nikita should play at around 200lbs with skill to compliment Galchenyuk. Clearly I'm hoping both make it, but I don't think it's far-fetched.

Could have sworn I read that somewhere. Strange. As expected, Edmonton sent Draisaitl to Prince Albert today. The story on NHL.com says he is expected to be traded to Kelowna at the conclusion of the WJC.

Have to get in a plug for Martin Reway and the Slovak team. They were definitely undermanned against Canada, but Godla played God and it was close until the 3rd. Fucale was good when he had to be and McDavid turned it up another notch. Petan deservedly gets credit for his hat trick, but McDavid set the table beautifully on all 3 goals. Petan's 2nd goal was crucial as a one goal lead at that point was too tight for my liking.
Back to Reway. Another small guy, but he's a small guy who can play. He's a lot like Petan and he's a key guy defensively as well for the Slovaks. He kind of reminds me of Doug Gilmour. Same build and same skating style. I don't think he's as feisty as Gilmour, but maybe I haven't seen him enough to tell. I wonder if he'll come over to play in Hamilton next year?

Or, my second choice, but understand the size thing as can get a Reway in late rounds. If he plays in Hamilton next year hope Syl isn't there

Godla was unreal at times. He made two crazy post to post sliding saves, one right after the other, in the third.

Captain Martin Reway set up three goals, including Pavol Skalicky's winner early in the third period, and upset Sweden 4-2 on Monday to win bronze at the world junior hockey championship.

Dalton Thrower gets a five game suspension in the ECHL for the dreaded leaving the bench for purposes of entering into an altercation (he has company amongst Habs' prospects on that one this season). echl.com/echl-announces-fines-suspensions-p195718

Tim Bozon was in town yesterday as the Kootenay Ice were visiting as part of the Oil Kings annual Hockey Hookey game (it started at 11:30 am local time and the rink is filled with school kids - over 10K in attendance yesterday). I am guessing Timmy likes early games as he potted a hat trick in the winning cause, 5-3 in favour of the Ice. Too bad I missed the game...silly work sometimes!

And I totally forgot to check the Silvertips schedule. They're in Kelowna tonight and that would be a great game, but I left it too late and have other commitments. Darn, I wanted to see Scherbak live to get my own impressions of him.

Jeremy Gregoire with a very nice weekend offensively. He had three points on Friday night, and topped that yesterday with two goals and three assists. A nice 8 points in his last two games. He was in the running for a Team Canada spot before his injury, so he was on the radar screen of those Hockey Canada folks as a good complementary player.

Six feet, 190 lbs according to team stats. Not big, but he's a battler with 29 PIM's in 13 games. And he obviously knows what to do with the puck as well. Another sneaky Timmins pick.

A couple of prospects on TV tonight. Zach Fucale and the Remparts are on a few of the Sportsnet channels tonight at 5:00 ET, although he did play in last night's game so he could get this game off. Jake Evans and U of Notre Dame are on at the same time on TSN2.

And then there's Martin Reway, who, along with Mike Condon, is really flying under the radar. He has 34 points in 31 games in the Czech ExtraLiga and is first in scoring amongst all players 24 and younger and is 2nd overall in scoring. Here are some clips of his 4 point night. He shows off some really good top end speed and a very good passing touch. Even though he's small, this guy will make it.

At first glance, it would appear that Mike McCarron has not adapted well to his move to Oshawa as his offensive production has dropped below 1 ppg after being a very healthy 1.64 ppg with the Knights. However, he has been used in a different role and has been asked to play a more defensive role rather than getting consistent top offensive line ice time. On Sunday, he was moved to a top line and did not disappoint with one goal and three assists to have his biggest offensive game in a General's jersey.
I don't think Big Mike is ever going to be a massive offensive star in the NHL, but I see him being a big, complementary power forward who will be asked to play hard along the walls and stand in front of the net. In addition, he will need to be responsible in his own end. Getting some more checking line assignments will only help him develop his 200 foot game.
Oshawa has a good team that could go deep in the OHL playoffs this season (they are the #1 ranked team in the CHL right now, after moving ahead of Kelowna), so the move is good for him in that regard. What role he will land on with his new team has yet to be decided, but the coaches are clearly trying him out in a few different spots to see how he best fits in with his new team and where that chemistry best lies with his new teammates.
Will be see Big Mike battling Fucale and the Remparts in Quebec in May at the Memorial Cup? Only time will tell, but they are one of the favourites to come out of the OHL for sure.

I still think the Brian Boyle comparison is a realistic one. Maybe with more offensive upside. He's got decent hands. If nothing else, he should be a fixture in front of the net on the PP.

That would be very nice, for him to experience the Mem Cup. Fully agree. He did get three round robin games in with London last year, but they did not play well and he was playing a much smaller role for London compared to the role he played with the team this season.

He has a decent skating stride and a good shot too. Like many big guys, he could always get a quicker first step, but he is not slow out there. I just hope Lefebvre puts him in a top six role when he gets to Hamilton next season (or at least a regular PP role as you mention).

Funny, that's exactly who I thought of earlier this morning. I'm hoping he's going to be a bit better than Boyle and get there faster. The size is similar, though McCarron is a better fighter, if it comes to that. As you mentioned, he has better hands IMO, than Boyle. We shall see.

The size is similar, though McCarron is a better fighter, if it comes to that. As you mentioned, he has better hands IMO, than Boyle. We shall see. After drafting McCarron, I remember Timmins saying something along the lines of "he can play/keep up with the top offensive players". So far, there seems to be truth to that comment - when he plays on a top line, he produces. I don't think McCarron will ever be a driver of offense, but as long as he is only expected to "keep up", he will produce just fine. Defensively, I think you guys are right with the Brian Boyle comparison. Offensively, he makes me think of poor man's John LeClair. The big question is what role he will be given at the next level. One thing is for sure: when you put McCarron's stats into context of the roles that he has been playing, his development really doesn't look so bad. As a prospect, he seems to have really improved his defensive game, and he has shown that he can keep up offensively with the Domi's and Dal Colle's.

Re Leclair, don't quote me, but iirc that's what the Kings were hoping Boyle would turn into. I think McCarron falls somewhere in between, and likely closer to Boyle. And that's okay. It took MM a year to get used to the CHL grind. Last year was a huge learning curve. He showed this year that he didn't need Domi to produce. Just the minutes.

So, which CHL prospect has the most goals to start this week off? As of last night, Nikita Scherbak was a pretty good (and a little obvious) an answer. That changed with a couple of games last night. Tim Bozon had three goals and Daniel Audette had a pair (and an assist) to bring them both up to 25 goals this season compared to Scherbak's 23. Although, I am not sure any of their 25 will be quite as highlight worthy as Scherby's great goal in the video posted above by Willie Dog Audette's three points. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8JlY91B5ZQEDIT: Of note, that is 11 goals in his last 10 games for Tim Bozon.

Terrible quality, but here is Bozon's hattie from the 15th. He did pot another last night, the GWG to boot. www.youtube.com/watch?v=99uL9CROliAMcCarron is suspended for two games for being the third man in. He has served one.
