Sometimes a review is useless....and the officials can still be in error as a result.
The Avs go-ahead goal just got waved-off...because it was ruled it was hit with a high stick before it ricocheted off Svedberg's glove then Everburg's skate.
The ref behind the net called it a goal. Then they got together, and a linesman said it hit a high stick on the way to Svedberg. So it was ruled "no goal".
Went to review in Toronto....and they couldn't determine if the puck was hit legally or not...as the play was well out-front. So they couldn't overturn the call. No goal.
Funny thing....if the call on the ice had been "goal", logic says the same review couldn't have overturned the call...and it would've been a goal.
EDIT: Briere scores with 0.3-0.4 seconds left in the third to win it 2-1 for the Avs.
Love it!!!

RE: Cherry. Even if he IS being phased out, how can he possibly complain? He'll be 81 in February. He's built a veritable empire and can continue to cash in on his Rock 'em Sock 'em DVDs and his lucrative speaking engagements (anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000 according to one speaker's agency that books him) til the end of his days. In Southern Ontario, perhaps. I'm skewed of course. He'd have to pay me to get me to waste an hour of my time. I'm with ya....but unfortunately, to demand and get that kind of fee, there are certainly more than enough deluded individuals ready and eager to listen to revisionist history and watch a long, bogus Bobby Orr video.

absolutely fantastic goal. and I don't care if it's the most garbage of goals (it wasn't) . . . any time the Bruins lose in regulation it is an absolutely fantastic goal!

Briere is still a thorn in the Bruins' paw.
On a more serious note for the Bruins, they've played 4 games and have scored 4 goals. Do they have a goal scoring problem, or is this just a short stint of poor finishing?

Buffalo loses 5-2 to the Ducks. Sabres are 0-3-0 with a goal differential of -10.
Sabres and Hurricanes....race to McDavid?

McDavid . . . Eichel . . . I'd be good with either.

It's a long season watching your team suck....don't we know it.
At least we got Galchenyuk out of it.
Hard to believe that Edmonton can still be struggling...and that Lowe is still president. Maybe that's not fair, as it's early this year, but they're winless after 2 games. The buck has to stop somewhere. No wonder the fans are throwing merch on the ice.
Eberle, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Yakupov....and the 3rd overall last year (Draisaitl).

Nice to hear ... doubt it would make Jack Edwards' list of embellishment, though ... only Habs in that ledger ... had a whirlwind drive to Ottawa and back today ... near gagged on my Timmy's when I heard Boston lost today ... right on ... Cheers.

Islanders are 4-0-0 after beating the Sharks in the SO.

Nothing will change in Edmonton until there are wholesale changes in management. It's a revolving door of alumni. We've seen how that worked for us. Fresh people, with fresh ideas. Too many small, skilled players with no real leadership group on the ice. The young core only knows losing there. Unless things change quick, that's all they're going to know.

Ottawa with the comeback win against Colorado ... Valarmov was helped off the ice tonight ... if he's out for any length of time the Avs are screwed ... Cheers.

Watching the Red Wings and Leafs ... 4-1 Detroit and they're on a 2-man advantage ... they went into the 3rd period up 3-0 and they went on the forecheck right away ... they didn't sit on the lead ... Detroit is a good team and you just can't take them for granted ... very structured ...
Cheers.

Kypreos reported that the leafs asked Detroit about Babcock's status before they re-signed Carlyle. I guess they were rebuffed & then signed Carlyle as a stop gap & are still hoping to get Babcock at the end of the season. Must make Randy feel good. Heard McCown talking about this. He doesn't think Babcock will make a difference if he goes to Toronto but did say that MB may want to make a change. Apparently the Illitch family have their teams up for sale.

I heard McCown say that yesterday and the first thing I thought of was, it won't make a difference who the Leafs bring in as head coach until they start replacing the problems on the ice ... maybe it is Carlyle, I really don't know, but there are a lot of passengers on the Leafs ... Cheers.

City-Owned Joe Louis Arena to Be Demolished.......as part of the City of Detroit's bankruptcy dealings with its creditors. The State of Michigan is giving $6 million for demolition of the Joe....and the creditor (bond insurer, Financial Guaranty Insurance, with a $1 billion claim) will get the land for future development. As the article states, Detroit is shedding $7 billion of debt, cutting pensions of thousands of retirees by 4.5 percent and ending city-paid health insurance for retirees. More than $1 billion would be spent on improving services over the next decade.Poor business management at City Hall....the automotive industry's decline....or a combo?

Detroit and at least two of the big three had gone through decades of poor management.

Bettman gets a lot wrong (imo) and the NHL is slow to act too often, but good on them for being decisive here (as opposed to the NFL, which, I think, has forced the major leagues to start acting decisively!).

Would Bettman have done this if Goodell hadn't screwed up the Rice situation so monumentally?
