The last Charlotte game was a wild one, a real penalty filled affair that likely had no good flow to it due to the number of penalties. There were 98 mins of penalties dished out, including five scraps each and two additional majors for boarding to Hamilton (DLR and Crisp). Connor Crisp had 20 mins of penalties alone (5 for boarding, 5 for fighting, 10 misconduct).
I am a bit concerned that half of Hamilton's games so far seem to show the same old story of a rather inept offense. This year has the most offensive talent than they have had under Lefebvre, but it does seem to disappear in quite a few games. It is a fairly young team, but more veteran guys like Bowman, Hensick and Tangradi have some years under their belts. Hopefully that is just early season jitters, and does not carry on too far into the season. They really need a winning season this year after two real dogs (no pun intended) the last two seasons.

Nine games into the season and the Dogs are at a .444 winning percentage. They've played Rockford (once) who are a good team, the Marlies (.500) twice, Rochester (.500) twice, San Antonio (.500) twice and the Charlotte Checkers (.333) twice. Averaged out, they've played average teams overall and are at .444. Nine games may not be enough to tell you much, but it's enough to start making one worry.
They've scored 23 goals, about 2.5 per game. The better teams are in the 30 goal range this early in the season, or at 3 or just above.

Makarov gave up 5 goals on 17 shots for Rochester, so perhaps an off night for him, but who cares. It's good for the soul to score 6.

Two quality goals, the first crashing the net, the second a quick pass pickup and shot.

Dogs drop a second in a row to the Baby Flames. Tough loss.... Leading 2-1 going into third but a third period collapse.... This team really misses Tokarski.... Not blaming the goalies but if Tokarski was playing infront of this team we will be instant contenders.

Dumont should be a future NHLer. He won Guy Carbonneau Trophy his last season in junior, defensively he should be ready. He is kind of sand paper guy, okay hands should be able to chip in 15 gooals. Kind of in Glen Metroploit mode.

Dumont should be a future NHLer. He won Guy Carbonneau Trophy his last season in junior, defensively he should be ready. He is kind of sand paper guy, okay hands should be able to chip in 15 gooals. Kind of in Glen Metroploit mode. He has had some funny and up and down years since turning pro. Two years ago, he was the flavor of the month for prospects and was established as one of the Habs' extra forwards and he entered last season's camp as the odds on favourite to get a spot as either the 13th or 14th forward. One bad camp later and a great camp by Bournival, and its back to Hamilton for Dumont, where he really seemed to regress a bit last season and never really stood out as the "guy to call up". This year, he has been a real sparkplug with the Dogs, now wears the "C" and is the sandpaper and energy bunny on the top line with Andrighetto and Carr (Lefebvre moved Hudon off the top line to spread the scoring around...where have we seen that strategy before?). It will be interesting to see if he can get back on the radar or if he ends up being passed by other forwards in the system who bring a little bit more of what the big club is looking for (e.g., scoring - Andrighetto, Thomas, Hudon, Scherbak, McCarron, Carr; responsible two way play - DLR, Bowman; energy, toughness and size: Crisp, Tangradi, Nevins).

Dogs in St. John's tonight, trying to get back into the win column. Bork will play with Hensick and Tangradi. That could be a pretty decent line if the Bork can get it back on track. Here is Rene in the Dogs' media scrum today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6ffDMWLycw

Baby Habs lost and Hamilton now 12th out of 15 teams in their conference at a .385 clip. The talent is there, but one has to really wonder seriously about the coaching. Lefebvre's record is abysmal. But he's a star in the making, so all we need is more patience. Sure hope our youngsters don't develop a losing culture.

Shocking news, they won. 2-1 OT battle on the Rock. Hudon with both goals. Condon with the win. Bork now tied with Tinordi with one assist each since being sent down. Exciting stuff.

I was at the game tonight and Bourque played a lot of top minutes but was pretty ineffective IMO. Frustrating because there were times when he carried the puck well and he is so hard to knock down but he then made so many bad decisions where he shot in bad positions or fired wide. There were several Ice Caps that tried going after him physically and he just skated away. Tinordi and Pateryn were the number 1 defensive pair and both played really well. Tinordi made a few rushes, played physical, was very involved so there didn't seem to be any problem with his confidence or being upset after being sent down. I was hoping to see more out of Crisp who didn't play poorly but I thought he would have been more visable.
A little inside scoop from a reliable source is that after next season when the Ice Caps relocate to Thunder Bay the Bulldogs will make the move east and play in St. John's. Apparently the Bulldog's lease is up at the same time and Hamilton does not draw so well which cost the team lots of money. St. John's had sold out 140 nights up to this week ,there are direct flights daily to Montreal, and the city will help with compensation for travel costs.

I thought the Habs farm team was going to go to Laval, in Montreal's northern suburb, in a new complex being built.

I remember going to the Jr. canadiens games. This year I went to the Keg and saw the playoff game, Habs vs Rangers on the big screen from MSG. You get a different crowd that can't get or afford corporate Habs tickets. Montreal could fill the Keg with fans for 40 dates of fans cheering for Bleu Blanc Rouge lite or going to see future Habs in the making. It's a place a father can take his sons (or daughters) to enjoy an evening cheering le flannel and going home with memories and a couple of bucks left in the wallet. While the AHL team provides entertainment, it also develops players and future fans too. Watching Perrault, Houle, Tardiff and Globensky in a packed rockin Forum was an unforgettable experience.

Hudon and Condon both have good numbers Hudon has had a great start to his first pro season. He just needs to stay healthy. Condon tore up the ECHL last season, so I expected he would push MacDonald a bit for starts. One of those prospects that very few really talk about. A fluffy little interview with Condon. e2e.thespec.com/2014/11/one-on-one-mike-condon.html

The first game this past week against the Bulldogs ended the consecutive sell out streak. Attendance was in the 5600 range Bulldogs will not be coming here. The City has made two pitches to get them here and both times Hamilton managed to renew their lease. I believe the Bulldogs current lease is for three years, and this is only year 1. EDIT .. Both leases (Ice Caps and Bulldogs) are up at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Glad to see Andrighetto responded....because Lefebvre is getting some heat. And rightly so, it would appear by the stats in this article.
