Dogs looking better in their Xmas pics than they are on the ice, after being shutout for the second straight game. First it was 4-0 to the dreaded Marlies, and yesterday it was 5-0 at the hands of the baby Flames.

First it was 4-0 to the dreaded Marlies, and yesterday it was 5-0 at the hands of the baby Flames. Went to the Dogs' game last night. Not worth commenting on. No one looked good, lots of guys looked bad and I think the coaching is non-existent. As a team they basically looked lost. How you get outscored 9-0 over two games to two of the lesser lights in the AHL beats me. Don't think I'll bother taking the trek down the QEW again this year.

No need to comment on the coaching. His record speaks for itself.

No need to comment on the coaching. His record speaks for itself. I can get the whole "develop nhlers" rather than all about winning idea, but you would think that one would be followed by the other a little more closely. Something isn't quite right down there.

IMO, that's way too soft an excuse and I'd go so far as to call it hypocritical. "Yes, our record sucks, but I'm supposed to develop guys for the big team, not win championships". Duh? Sure, develop that losing habit, it's bound to help them out on the Habs. I know it was a different game back in the 60's but the Houston farm team developed a lot of guys for the Habs and didn't stink out the joint. The 85 Sherbrooke Canadiens included Brian Skrudlund, Mike Lalor, (even Michel Therrien go figger) and in the playoffs they were joined by St. Patrick and Stephane Richer. They won the Calder Cup that year and still graduated a few key rookies to the Habs. Gee, it is possible to win and develop good players at the same time. I could probably research a whole number of comparable situations. Tampa has seven regulars on their team who played for Syracuse in 2012-13 and won the Calder Cup. That doesn't include the coach, Jon Cooper. They are Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Barberio, Sustr, Connelly, Killorn and Gudas. One could also suggest, though, that Lefebvre is no Jon Cooper.

In 2006-07, Carey Price (and friends) led Hamilton to their only Calder Cup. He seems to have turned out okay.

One could also suggest, though, that Lefebvre is no Jon Cooper. Heck, Lefebvre is no Therrien and that's saying something. I say MB makes Benoit Groulx an offer he can't refuse.

Lefebvre is not going to make it to the NHL with that kind of record. I wonder how he got the rep of being a rising star, or at least an up and comer.

Dogs win 2-1, with Condon leading the way making 40 saves. Hudon and Thomas potted the goals.

It's getting really tiring, not only reporting on another loss for the Dogs, but also the lack of scoring. While Bergevin is tough enough mentally to send players on their way, he has a real soft spot for any coaches he's hired. Lefebvre could possible be one of the worst coaches in minor hockey, yet manages to hang on. Shut out tonight in Oklahoma City. Edmonton's farm team. Sounds bad, but OKC is a first place team in Hamilton's Conference. Still not good to not score any goals. But the dogs are amongst the league leaders in one category... PIM's. That's gratifying. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1014010

Life is grand. At least I did not pay money to see the latter.

The media is taking notice as the Dogs flounder at home and start to lose ground in the standings. They are now firmly outside a playoff spot looking in. I know a lot has been made about Lefebvre as head coach, but he has not yet made the playoffs in his first two seasons with the Dogs and they are now out of a playoff spot despite having a better lineup this season. I know the Berg just gave Sly an endorsement in the media, but something has to give in Steeltown at some point as these kids need to get a winning season at least under their belt. www.thespec.com/sports-story/5260902-bulldogs-need-grand-rapid-improvement/

Dogs make it four in a row this past weekend as they topped the Marlies on both Friday and Saturday night to head into the All Star break on a high note. The score was 3-0 on Friday and 4-3 in OT on Saturday. Dumont has been leading the way on offense of late, and Condon has been really solid in net.
The AHL all star game tonight features Charles Hudon as the Dogs' representative.

Not sure I'll make it down to any more games - it's a bit of a hassle and now that I have a granddaughter I have better things to do with my weekends. If they make the playoffs and look like they're competitive maybe I'll try to catch a few more games.

Dogs have been winning more than losing lately. 2-1 over the Iowa Wild last night, who have a .356 winning percentage, the worst record in the AHL and outshot the Dogs 38-29. Mike Condon obviously had a good game, but wasn't voted one of the 3 stars ( ). theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1014103

Well, Mike "Condibear" Condon is the Bulldog in the news these days. First an article from the Spec on him and then today the Habs announced that he has received a two year contract extension. Very good move I think as he has wrestled the reigns of the starter's job in Hamilton from veteran Joey MacDonald in his very first AHL season. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/pressbox/news/?article_id=1061

He's 24 which is ok for a goalie to start showing their stuff. And he's a big boy too. He may make it.
