So do the Leafs take Mitch Marner or a defenseman. There was talk they were high on Hanifan.

Zacha to the Devils. Not out of line, but an example of how close the rankings can be and how the individual needs of teams play a role. Hanifan and Provorov have to wait for a while longer.

I think the Leafs made a mistake not selecting a defenseman

I guess I'll move over to the Draft thread in the Habs Prospects section to continue the draft discussion.

Provorov comparable to markov.... the fleas will be lucky if he does become like marky.

... Sharp still available. Rumours have Canadiens amongst teams still interested. It was reported, somewhat vaguely, last night that the asking price has taken a steep dive. The Rangers certainly didn't get for Talbot what they were originally asking.

I was looking at the trades involving goalies and except for the Lehner deal, all were very cheap. Which again, brings up the collusion, conflict of interest matter between the Murray's. Strange that the only guy who got a good deal, and a very good deal, for his goalie (who's no better than Talbot or Lack) is Murray Sr., from Murray Jr. Gee.

My take on it is that Tim Murray had a long-time fascination with Lehner and still sees him as a very high-level prospect and as such was willing to pay through the nose for him, whereas the other goalies available didn't have one strong supporter so they just went for normal market value.

TSN running with notion that Leafs may be willing to eat $2 million of Kessel's cap hit. Phil at a $6 million hit anyone?

Nephew certainly did uncle a favor in that one. I thought Tim was Bryan's son, but he's his nephew you say?

OH, well then there's no conflict of interest. The NHL approved a deal involving one of its current employees (Pronger), so their conflict rules seem to be "more of a guide than a code" (Jack Sparrow).
