The off-season Ice Caps news has begun to emerge, so figured it was time to start a new thread for the new AHL affiliation. The Habs have signed former Ice Caps goalie, 24 year old Eddie Pasquale to an AHL deal. Eddie has missed the last season and a half due to injury. This adds some competition for time in net in the AHL and now sets the Habs up with a third goalie who will spend time in Brampton (ECHL affiliate). The Habs now have Condon, Fucale and Pasquale who will be reporting for duty in the fall, although I expect Condon could push Tokarski too for the Habs backup job. www.thetelegram.com/Sports/IceCaps/2015-07-04/article-4203030/Eddie-Eddie-Part-2/1

The latest episode of All in the Family. Stephan Lebeau's assistant coaching position with St. John's will be filled by Nick Carriere (Assistant GM Larry's son). He has been a head coach in a NCAA lower tier team for the last 10 years. canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=774103And with all the good developing head coaches out there in the QMJHL....

Ducharme will get his chance somewhere, if he wants it.

I just look at behind the bench of your AHL team also being a developmental opportunity, so if management is still convinced that the current head coach in the AHL is being groomed...yikes.

I know nothing of the guy but I hope he helps the coaching staff down there as the Bulldogs games where terrible since Lefebvre took over. They need some fresh blood..mind u a assistant coachs son might not be exactly fresh lol Like NWT says.... There are plenty of good prospective coaches in the QJMHL....why hire a relative?? Maybe he will turn out to be a great hiring..time will tell

I'm rooting for him, great guy.

Previously, from what I understand it was Lefebvre who was reporting to Habs management. Maybe responsibilities have changed on the farm to let Lefebvre concentrate more on winning games? Either way, I can't help but feel that this hiring is a statement to Lefebvre that he's on thin ice. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. Otherwise, this hiring just doesn't make sense. I would have thought that Lefebvre would have been free to hire his own assistant. And of all ppl, the Assistant GM's son? Is Nick Carriere a brilliant hockey mind, or is he just someone that management can trust? Personally, I would have just fired Lefebvre.

I don't know if Nick Carriere was brought in specifically to keep Sylvain Lefebvre in check or not, but the Bulldogs have missed the playoffs every year under Lefebvre's tenure ... is it coaching or does our drafting suck? ... I've read the Lefevbre's-job-isn't-to-win-but-to-develop-NHLers opinion both here and on Twitter, and I just don't understand how that works (anyone wanting to educate me, please do) ... I've always equated winning to success, yet Lefebvre has been in Hamilton 3 years, has failed to make the playoffs to date and now they're moving ... lack of attendance? ... inadequate facility? ... contract up? ... routine move? ... Lefebvre will be given some new talent to work with this year and it will be interesting to see how the team does ... Cheers.

If Carriere surveys the situation first hand, and it's enough to dump Lefebvre, I'm all for it.

I sure hope Carriere is there to suss out the situation. His own coaching record is the same as Lefebvre's, a series of .500 and sub .500 seasons. He coached SUNY Buffalo State, who played 16 game seasons. Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking.
You can understand my puzzlement at the hiring. But then again, if you're not interested in winning, he's a perfect candidate.

Developing players is great, but I can't wrap my head around developing players when they're losing and unhappy. Or, maybe I should say that I'm convinced that player development would be improved if the farm team had a winning culture. So if Lefebvre really is such a great player development coach, well he should have been even better than what he's shown to date simply by winning and getting his players some playoff experience.

Here is a interesting article on Andrighetto.... My early favorited to earn a roster spot, maybe first line RWer...mind u last season my pick was Thomas to break thru so my choices are normally a sign of a up coming disaster season lol @ericengels: Intermission here at Brossard. Here's a piece on @andrighetto25 , who is primed for a job with the Montreal Canadiens t.co/WVa5XnqIWv

In the Ryan Johnston thread, jazzyjay referenced the young age of the team. Just to put this into perspective, the defense is really young.
9 defensemen are signed to NHL or AHL contracts. 6 of those nine are on entry level deals (Dietz, Thrower, Bennett, Lernout, Hanley and Johnston). One guy is on his second contract after his entry level deal just expired this summer (Ellis). One player just left NCAA hockey and is signed to an AHL deal as his first pro deal (Didier). And the "old man" of the crew, Barberio, is a tender age of 25.
Beaulieu, Tinordi and Pateryn all have to clear waivers, so they are not coming back unless the Habs are willing to lose them for nothing.
Overall, they have nine guys coming into camp making their pro season debut (Scherbak, McCarron, Fucale, Gregoire, MacMillan, Johnston, Bozon, Lernout and Didier). Free agent signing Hanley has one year of pro under his belt, as do a few of the others from last year's roster (Thrower, Hudon, Carr, Bennett, Crisp).
A very young and inexperienced squad.

I know it's a development league.... But can you say it's too much youth?? Would be nice to get some AHL playoff experience?? Playing behind our very experienced defenseman is a goalie who only played 1/2 season as a starter in the AHL. Not good for his development either..just going to be ugly this season IMO I guess the hope is, a couple of those dmen turn into gems in the rough but non are real blue chip prospects.... Just don't see it gelling into a competitive unit.... Not sure the Barberio/ Hanley signing would be enough.
