The game was great. Fucale was better than I expected. But Scherbak was an unexpected non-factor. One bit of levity in the team introduction was when Nielsen?, who was a scratch, was introduced attempted a jig but it looked more like a monkey impression... See what Markov has started. Lol

Ice Caps beat Rochester 6-2 tonight. McCarron with the hat-trick. Has Lefebvre's 'good' twin taken over the team? Or was the system changed in the whole organization?

Ice Caps beat Rochester 6-2 tonight. McCarron with the hat-trick. Has Lefebvre's 'good' twin taken over the team? Or was the system changed in the whole organization? It may just be because those other teams sucked. Seriously, this is the first time I can remember in a while when our AHL team wasn't loaded with a bunch of stiffs and marginal prospects. McCarron, Scherbak, de la Rose, Hudon, Fucale, Andrighetto. Right there that's two 1st rounders and two 2nd rounders. And I'd even throw in Daniel Carr and Jeremy Gregoire as guys that are expected to do well. St John's is stocked with some quality forward prospects and I expect some serious production this year. Compare that with what we've seen in the past 3 years in terms of leading scorers: Patrick Holland, Mike Blunden, Gabriel Dumont, Christian Thomas, TJ Hensick, Drayson Bowman, Martin St. Pierre. Yuck.

The first one stank too. He's not getting back to the NHL playing like that. That's hard on the team, for sure.

And the announcer mentions that Tokarski has a chat with Ellis after the last goal. Hope that chat wasn't assigning blame to anyone other than maybe himself.

The Ice Caps jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes last night, and held on for a 3-2 rematch win against Bingo on the back of a very solid 40 save, first star performance by Zach Fucale. That moved the rookie netminder's record to 2-0 so far this young season. Caps goals were from Dietz (with another lovely bomb from the blueline), Carr and Bennett. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN4AGHpwsHU

A few more of the injured guys are getting healthy. MacMillan and Didier have been assigned to the Brampton Beast of the ECHL, so they should get some first ice time of the season and shake some of the rust off.

Fucale was screened a few times, but he also seemed to be a second behind the play as well. That game made him look too much like Tokarski.

A rather decent start for the young Ice Caps. They have the most points in the AHL, although there are a few teams with fewer games played and better winning percentages. They recently signed veteran tough guy Eric Neilsen to an AHL deal. Before that Bud Holloway was their oldest player at 27. Good old Sasky boy who returned from playing in Europe. Still has not played an NHL game yet.
Speaking of Bud, he is tied for second in AHL scoring. Thomas and Hudon are also in the top ten. I am a little surprised the Habs did not give Holloway a bit more preseason ice time. Finally a vet signing who seems to be able to still put up points in the AHL.
Did Lefebvre's and MT's coaching styles both go through the same industrial strength spin cycle over the summer? The big difference is St. John's has a much younger and inexperienced D core and does not boast the best goalie in the league. They should fall back a bit, but so far so good as the sea air seems to be good for the lads!

The IceCaps lose 3-2 in a shootout this afternoon. The first two periods were kinda dull, with Bridgeport dominating the chances and shots (at one point the shots were 28-6 or so). Tokarski stood tall in two goal mouth scrims, but for the most part there were no truly dangerous shots by either team.
The third period started 0-0. Bridgeport opened the scoring with a bang bang play that Toker had no chance on. The IceCaps tied it up on a goal by Barberio who pinched down while teams were playing 4 on 4, and banged home a rebound in tight.
Late in the third Bridgeport went ahead 2-1 on a play that Toker really should have had, but it was a quick shot that beat his glove.
With a faceoff to the left of the goalie with 8.7 seconds to play, a lot of the crowd started to leave. The Caps were playing with the extra attacker for about 1:30 and had absolutely zero pressure. However, the fans were quickly scattering back to their seats, when the faceoff was lost into the corner, but hard forechecking stole the puck and it was zipped out to McCarron who was in front of the net and tipped it in with 1.1 seconds to go ...
The three on three was interrupted with a penalty , and the next whistle after the penalty happened with about 30 seconds left, so the vast majority of OT was 4 on 4. However, the shootout was lengthy, going 10 shooters deep, with the Sound Tigers coming out on top.
IceCaps still with only one regulation loss all year 5-1-2

The IceCaps and Lefebvre and coming back down to earth on this road-trip away from the cosy, but foggy, confines of Mile One. They lost 5-2 last night in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (who comes up with these names?). The key turning point was Fucale giving up three goals on the first three shots of the second period (that's no good in any league). A bit of good news as McCarron did bend the twine for the sixth time this season. The Caps play the baby Pens one more time and the Hershey Bears again before they return home. They are sporting a 1-3 record so far on this road trip. www.thetelegram.com/Sports/IceCaps/2015-11-04/article-4333434/Penguins-score-in-a-flurry-to-down-IceCaps/1

Well, I strongly doubted Lefebvre had suddenly turned into Babcock. We'll need more time to judge this team, of course, but there's no doubt this is a more talent laden squad than we've had the last two years. If he manages to foul this up as well, one wonders how long Bergevin's leash is. We're now at a .583 winning percentage, down from the earlier lofty heights. Where we're definitely weaker is in goal. I have very little confidence in Fucale and the sooner we can move him while he still has some value (if any), the better. After Condon, McNiven is the best goalie prospect in the organization and long term he may be even better than Condon. That was a good signing.

If memory serves, this is the last year of Lefebvre contract. I would really like to see a fresh approach.

I wouldn't even mind a stale approach as long as long as it was someone else's.

We lose 4-1 to the Penguins farm club, the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins. Now at a .538 clip. That feels more comfortable. I was having extreme discomfort rationalizing a .750 record with a Lefebvre coached team. Now that its down to .538 it feels less odd. Just a few more percentage points to go to get it to a really comfortable level. Sub .500 should do it. theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1014835

The next game against Hershey tonight on the road (the last on this six game road trip) will be a tough one. 1-4 so far, so it has been tough on the young guns.
