I've added a handful of d-men to the table. Anyone else you'd like to see added? Also, I've added Fenwick and PDO stats. I admit to having little knowledge about advanced stats so feel free to comment on the meaning and usefulness of these stats in the table. Wow, that's pretty impressive Gogie! I wouldn't mind Keith and Letang. They seem to be in the Norris conversation a lot.

I know this is a Subban/Weber comparison and how right now it looks like Weber is the best player out of the two but comparing it versus the Norris winner: Drew Doughty: 11GP, 2G, 2A, 4P, =/- -4, 12 PIM, Nashville still got a great player. Stats are just Stats. It doesn't help with the overall picture, and anyone can manipulate them to get the desired result. How can stats be manipulated if one player is superior in 98% of the categories? Seriously, i'm curious, or do you mean Trump style made up stats?

Holy smoke, did you do all that by hand? Or is there an app somewhere where you enter the numbers and it gives you the complete code? I'd like to take credit for an excessive amount of work but, alas, I'm an honest person. It was actually quite easy to do. There's a "table" button at the top of the page that lets you set up any size table. The secret is to do the work in "preview" mode. I'm not sure how anyone could do the coding that shows when you select "BBCode". Once the basic table is set up it's easy to add rows and columns (a little trial and error and I was able to figure that out). As far as getting the data, it's a manual process but again it's pretty straight forward. I use "Hockey Reference" (www.hockey-reference.com/). There, now my secret's out. No more "glory" for Gogie.

The PDO stat is interesting. It's more of a team stat, of course, combining the save percentage and the shooting percentage of a team. Average is 100 but if you have a team of good shooters or a team with a great goalie, that number will be higher. Habs have great goaltending, so 'normal' for them should be about 101.5. I don't think they have any better shooters than anyone else. So, it appears that the Habs are either going to have a higher than usual PDO this year, or they've already used up some of their inventory of 'luck' and things will even out as the year goes along. Nashville has worse than average goaltending, so their 'normal' PDO should be around 98.5. They appear to be in an unlucky streak, or this is going to be one of those years for them.
If one was going to make predeiction based on that stat alone, I'd say Weber's numbers will get worse, Subban's and Josi's will get better; Doughty's will get a little better, Karlsson's a bit worse and Hedman stay on course (lots of good shooter on Tampa and reasonable goaltending).

As I've said before, I'm far from a stats geek but just as you pointed out about PDO being more of a team stat, aren't most advanced stats team-oriented? Don't Corsi and Fenwick, for example, place a high degree of reliance on all the players on the ice such that one player's stats are significantly influenced by the other players on the ice with him?

A bit lik +/- that way, but you can go deeper by working out Corsi and Fenwick while with different players so there some indication of who's driving play and who's being carried by it. What I like least about Corsi is the lack of a quality component to it.

Watching the HBO special PK Subban Skate Past the Noise: The Offseason ... I knew PK's branding was important to him, I may have been one of the first to point it out, but I never knew it was SO important to him. He speaks in depth of how much thought he puts into his branding, and how it's important to him, like Kobi's brand. He even speaks with Jeanie Buss (owner of the Lakers), to get advice on how to balance team priority over personal branding.
It's pretty obvious why Bergevin traded him. Even though Subban says a Montreal Canadien always puts the crest ahead of the name on the back, he is talking about how important it is to move your brand forward this offseason, hours before the last game of the season (as the show leads you to believe).

I see nothing wrong with wanting something beyond hockey... there have been enough professional athletes who have ended up with nothing after the end of their career. It's funny that during the show PK says about Nashville 'they want me to be me... it's music to my ears'... speaks volumes.

Wow I guess a defenseman shouldn't go deep in the offensive zone.... where were his teammates... isn't a player supposed to cover for a defenseman when he carries the puck into the offensive zone?

Guys get burned all the time... it happens... if it didn't all games would end zero zero.... it's like when it's him it get magnified... that's what bothers me about his time in Montreal... he got blamed and others got free passes.

Saw the highlight....a 2-on-1 develops with Upshall and Brodziak. #10 for Nashville, Colton Sissons, is in pursuit of Brodziak. Upshall has the puck.
Instead of skating hard to cover Brodziak, Sissons stops skating AT THE BLUE LINE and watches Upshall shoot.
The rebound goes to Brodziak who, uncovered, puts it in the empty net.
In that situation, you leave the puck carrier for the d-man and the goalie....and you hustle to cover the other man, especially when you're only one step behind at the blue-line.
When P.K. is involved in a play like that, no matter what follows, the GA is always his fault. To me, that goal is on Sissons.
And how did Laviolette respond? Did he call out Subban and blame it on his individualism?
Predators coach Peter Laviolette believed a cross-checking penalty should have been called against the Blues, which caused Subban to turn the puck over.
I have no issue with PK's self-branding (and the personality that goes along with it) being the major knock against him...but if you want to see a d-man's errors leading directly to goals-against in CRUCIAL game situations, pull up San Jose vs. Nashville, Round 3 Game 6, 2016. I'm not knocking Weber...simply providing counter-point to argue that there's a double-standard when it comes to Subban. I can only imagine the ridicule/contempt P.K. would receive should he ever have a game like that one.

Just curious if anyone has seen the Subban documentary on HBO and had any comments? I felt it was more of a PK infomercial to sell his brand. I know most of it was done before the trade and not sure what I was expecting but felt disappointed by it

Last year was an anomaly for Subban as well as others. Unfortunately it gave critics the opportunity to pounce on him. As he gets more and more used to Nashville's system and players his numbers will continue to get better. Laviolette is already using him 28 minutes a game, up from the beginning of the season. His +/- isn't great, but the goaltending has been up and down and then there were the 2 empty net goals against vs Winnipeg. Recent reports out of Nashville are that he's playing well. He's with Josi now, but that hasn't been consistent either. Nashville looks like a work in progress, but if they keep in a playoff spot and Rinne gets hot, they could be a threat in the playoffs. With them, it's all about goaltending. Johansen and that defence provide strength up the middle except for goal.
