Sens up 2-0 after the first period...just might be going on to the ECF....
Good on them...
Rangers are flat-footed...generated little on a 4:00 PP.

Ryan's a man renewed in these playoffs. He's been great.

Nice feed from Ryan to Karlsson. 3-1. Karlsson is an amazing player. Hands-down their MVP, a la Price to the Habs.

Just watching this game, Ottawa has legs that our team doesn't have. We're not a fast team by any stretch. Senators are.

Can't stand the Rangers. Love that they lost. King Richard is Serf Richard now. Only the Habs can turn him into a star.

Glad I'm in the UK and not back home in Ottawa listening to Hens fans. Have a good time, mate ... there's still the possibility of Sydney Crosby/ Connor McDavid final, but both Pittsburgh and Washington are beatable teams ... Ottawa has a real chance at getting to the final round ... stay safe, man ... Cheers.

Shaking my head that the Habs aren't better than these two teams....unbelievable. Kind of makes you feel worse about losing to the Rags. They always play us tough, Lundqvist was lights out, but then they go out and lose to Ottawa, giving up 19 goals in 6 games, and twice blowing late leads (Games 2 and 5). I'd be pissed if I was a Ranger fan. That said, I always thought the Sens were a solid team. Karlsson is playing at a Conn Smythe level, but they are getting solid production throughout the lineup from guys like Ryan, Brassard, Turris, Hoffman, Pageau, etc. Nothing spectacular but enough to win. Anderson is playing well, but Karlsson shows that you want your best player to be a SKATER! He just makes things happen when he's on the ice. I expect the Sens to be competitive against either the Caps or Pens.

Karlsson's on-ice vision is off-the-charts. His rush that started deep in his zone resulting in his give-and-score with Ryan was great to watch. The Rangers were coming on...and boom 3-1. A d-man who can drive/quarterback/engineer/produce offence is a rare, prized commodity.... For most teams, that is....

Romanuk, after the game, called Karlsson the best D man in the league right now. He is definitely making a pretty good case in the playoffs. Kudos to the Sens for allowing him to grow and make mistakes. They allowed him to take risks. They did not try and make him a player he was not. Habs fans could only wish for a coaching/management staff like that when handling you-know-who. The path to the conference finals was always going to be the "easiest" through the Atlantic division. The Sens took advantage of it, the Habs did not. King Henrik from the Habs series resorted back to hapless Henry against the Sens. Been a tough playoffs for Berg. First there was the anemic offensive and quick exit. His presser confirmed that it was okay, because NYR were a good team and we were only separated by one point in the standings. Okay then. PK, DD and Kassian are all enjoying playoff success beyond that of their previous team. Okay then. PK through to the third round and a big part of the Preds success in the playoffs so far. Okay then. Ottawa manhandles the NYR and brings Henrik back down to earth (mainly due to the critical play of a smooth skating transition defender...this is the new NHL after all). I guess the Rangers are not a good team any more. Okay then. I am sure with the success of the Preds, there are a growing number of Habs fan who will be cheering the prospect of PK winning a cup and bringing it back to the Montreal Children's Hospital in a Preds jersey. Enjoy the two games seven tonight, I know I will.

I expect the Sens to be competitive against either the Caps or Pens. RDS had a statistical story on the Habs/Rangers series. The possession and scoring chance numbers were decent for the first 3 lines but were concentrated mostly in their 2 wins. The fourth line was abysmal. In the defence pairings the first pair barely held its own, the 2nd pair (mostly Petry and Benn) were good and the 3rd pair was bad. The article's conclusion was not that the Habs were out goalied, but that they did a poor job of making it difficult for Lundquist. There was little in the way of passes that forced Lundquist to move side to side. It's the same theory we (especially Skilly) points out on 2 on 1's. Move the puck quickly side to side and force the defender and goalie to keep changing their positioning. There are a lot more holes to pass or shoot through when a team does that. The Sens didn't seem to have trouble with Lundquist (.910 save percentage compared to .942 or whatever against the Habs). Lundquist is not the goalie he once was, but a poor offensive team can make him look really good.

Pens dig deep tonight. As much as the Caps smothered the Pens in game 6, the Pens returned the favor tonight. Not a pretty game, but very effective road game. Caps had chances in the first, but really couldn't buy one.

Total defensive shutdown by Pittsburgh. I thought I was frustrated with the Habs...I don't have any words for the Capitals. They had some chances, but could not get anything going during the third period at all.

They had some chances, but could not get anything going during the third period at all. The Caps won the President's Trophy again...they should be able to find a way to break through. That effort was certainly not acceptable for a Game 7 at home. Ovie's playoff futility continues. I'm very angry if I'm a Caps' fan. Cripes...Toronto almost took them to Game 7. =============================================== Pens dodged a huge bullet by getting Crosby back. They've made the ECF without Kris Letang, and with Fleury having to step in after Murray got hurt just before Round 1, Game 1. That's depth, solid coaching/systems, the whole she-bang. Sens-Pens
