We don't have any prospects playing for the Kingston Frontenacs, but they're through to the second round after being down 0-2 ...
WOOT!

First blood to their opponents, Hamilton Bulldogs and Will Bitten 6-2. I guess WOOT for Habbie fans! Or at least some with no home team allegiance. Win-win, right!?

Verbeek back in the lineup, scored a goal, and SSM win a wild 9-7 game seven. They are off to the semis too. I don't have much in the way of expectations for Verbeek, but the team seems to win with him and not win when he's out of the line-up. Is he that critical?

Truth be told, I stopped wearing my Ottawa 67's jersey to Kingston home games a few years ago ... I'm heading into town over lunch to buy a couple of playoff tickets for this Sunday ... I've seen Hamilton play Kingston before and the Frontenacs did very well against them ... I'd like to see the Frontenacs represent the OHL and I'd like to see our prospects doing well ... if Will Bitten scores I'll be happy ... if Kingston wins I'll be happy ... Cheers.

I don't have much in the way of expectations for Verbeek, but the team seems to win with him and not win when he's out of the line-up. Is he that critical? He is a good complementary player on a very good CHL team. I expect his role will be much the same on the Rocket next season. His goals come from effort moreso than top-end skill. Guys that don't really tear up the score sheet in their overage season tend not to be big offensive producers in the pros. There are exceptions, but the odds don't favour it. He is all hustle and speed though, so that will go a long way to at least carving out a roster spot in the AHL. What he does with that is up to him.

Our OHL prospects may be on a collision course. Bitten and Hamilton have won two very convincing games against Kingston to open their semi 2-0. First game 6-2, second last night 7-1. Bitten had a 1+1 game.
Verbeek was held pointless, but the CHL’s top team won their first game 3-2 over Kitchener.

SSM won tonight, so they are now up 2-0 in their semi. Verbeek with no points.
If this keeps up, SSM and Hamilton will meet in he OHL final and we will be guaranteed to have a second prospect in the Memorial Cup. Lots of hockey to be played first though.
Oops, maybe not. Sounds like Verbeek was injured and left the game. Some speculation that it could be a broken wrist. Will wait and see, but that will be his season if it is.

Alain and the Armada play tonight, their QMJHL semi is all knotted up at two games apiece.

Oh crap ... going to be a few lean years for Kingston after Doug Gilmour used a lot of the club's draft picks to bolster the Kingston Frontenacs lineup this year ... go Hamilton ...
Cheers.

Charlottetown ties the game late in the third and win it in OT 3-2. Series going to game seven. Alain has a 1+1 game and was in on both goals.
I am really torn on this series. Want to see our new prospect make it to the Memorial Cup, but I know the Habs may have their sights on Joel Bouchard and nothing will happen while the Armada are still playing.

Alain with 3 goals and two assists in game 7, Armada leads 6-1 in the 2nd period. Yeah, that is insane for a game seven in so many ways.

Armada win series with their 6-1 game seven win.
With Alain’s five point game, he now has 16 goals and 12 assists in 16 playoff games. Impressive.
Off to the league finals.

Why was Alexandre Alain not drafted ... Cheers. Guys slip through the cracks. Look at Yanni Gourde in Tampa. He was average through his first couple of Q seasons. Then explodes in his overage year. He spent a number of years in the minors and then finally got a shot. He's run with it.

Why was Alexandre Alain not drafted ... Cheers. In addition to blny's points, his skating is below average which always holds guys back come draft time with the growing emphasis on that skill. He also does not necessarily generate offense on his own. He relies on a top notch playmaker to feed him the puck where he can use his NHL caliber shot to his advantage. There is not denying his shot and how he has exploded offensively, but we always have to temper expectations of free agent over-agers making the jump to the AHL. It is a big leap, and most recently Antoine Waked did not really have a great first season in the AHL this past year. I think having a new coaching staff and hopefully approach to player development will help. Part of that will be putting a young player in a position to succeed. If he plays on the fourth line with plugs who are not even average playmakers, then the organization should not be surprised if he struggles to put up lots of points in that situation. Bouchard speaks very highly of his compete level and attitude, so that will likely go a long way next year. He also wore the "C" this year, so brings those leadership intangibles that often can make the difference between making it or not as he takes his first steps into the pro ranks.

Yeah, did not see that coming until next summer. He signed a one year extension with his SHL club, so thought they might wait. A lot of new guys signed for next year, but they are all forwards: Evans, Bitten, Pezzetta, Verbeek, Alain, Vejdemo. With Valiev leaving for Russia for now, they need some new defenders in the mix. Galipeau is being rumoured, but they can also sign Fleury due to his birthday. He really progressed this past season. Schuldt is returning to St Cloud State for his senior year, so that rumour is not happening either.

Evans had the chance to play the last weekend suite of games with the Rocket after signing his entry level deal, but declined due to injury. I guess we now know it was a sports hernia and they have now operated on it.

Hamilton beat SSM in 1OT 4-3 to take the OHL finals opener. Bitten with one assist.
The Q President’s Cup starts tonight, with the Armada set to go against Acadie-Bathurst.
Sportsnet360 will have game 4 of the Hamilton-SSM on next Wednesday. Will post something again closer to the game.

Hadn't heard that. Yes, no way he recovers from that injury in time. Go Bitten!
I'm waiting for someone to use the line, "Wil has Bitten off more than he can chew".
(Boo, hiss).
