And Marchand claims not to know what happened. The people that do the worst stuff never apologize.

His coach 'suggested' Marchand was trying to protect himself. There's no telling how much damage Marchand might have sustained to his elbow from Johansens' head. The disease in Boston continues to be widespread. The lack of class remains astounding.

If a Hab did that to McAvoy, the howls coming from the Bs and NESN would be deafening.

6th suspension, 3rd fine . . . he's out over $800,00 + from fines so far . . . and counting.
of course, it was an accident (not even a hockey play gone bad); he didn't see Johansson and was attempting to avoid a collision with the New Jersey goalie when the "incidental bump" to the helmet occurred.

amazing . . . Marchand suspended 5 games . . . what's with that? has the Department of Player Safety grown a pair? tsn.caMore than I expected but I’d have imposed 10 games. If he’s making $6mm a year, that’s a $700,000 hit to his bank account. That’ll send a message. maximum possible; a phone interview rather than in person. but agree. he loses $373,475.60.

That was 100% intentional. Once a rat..... "Flying, vicious right elbow", says Andy Brickley. Correct. Later, Brickley adds.... "Well, if there's any intent there, it's well-camouflaged..." Revert to protecting the company's ASSets...and your own. =================== Ovechkin was suspended prior to an All-Star game for charging (leaping into a head shot along the boards)....and he decided to not attend. Marchand is going, of course, because there's a chance to defray the cost of his fine...and, oh yeah, he has sociopathic leanings.

True Karma would be Marchand somehow incurring a concussion during the All Star shinny game.

True Karma would be Marchand somehow incurring a concussion during the All Star shinny game. They interviewed him and Crosby... amazing how the NHL and CBC/Sportsnet reward rats like Marchand again and again. That rat should not be there.

It's amazing how much love PK gets from CBC/Sportsnet now that he's not with the Habs... he's a good Toronto boy now.

On the Horns of a Dilemma. Boston vs Toronto. Who to cheer for? There is no negative option. Perhaps simply a plethora of injuries on both sides?

Canucks were coming back strong against Tampa until a bad bounce sent Cory freaking Conacher on a breakaway. Too bad as it was getting exciting. Canucks are an interesting team. Green has them taking chances so even though they’ve lost a lot, they’re fun to watch.

It is only Superbowl Sunday and Subban already with 40 points and Radulov with 50. Let the obvious be stated; Marc Bergevin is a visionary.

Let's not get carried away, folatre. Most of us could see Subban and Radulov having a lot of success. Good to see that Bergevin had that same vision.

Barzal has another amazing night. The B’s had the three picks right before he was selected. A ton were surprised they passed on him three times. A ton.

And two of those guys, Zboril & Senyshyn, have not played a game in the NHL. The other pick was DeBrusk who is with the Bruins. Doing alright I guess but nothing close to Barzal. Who the heck was scouting for the Bruins that year?

Nice deal for the Capitals too. To have one of the leagues better 3rd line centres locked up at 3.5 AAV and the last year of contract Eller is 33 years old, which is not at all problematic compared to what most UFA deals involve. Plus, he is very durable having never missed more than five games in an NHL season.

Not faulting that trade even if I do like Lars. Danault was ready to replace Lars at a lower price with some offensive upside. Using Danault above his pay level is the error. The Shaw deal OTOH...it hurts with every Debrincat goal.

I refuse to evaluate deals for picks according to how the guy(s) picked work out, other than draft-day trades when a pick is coming up in the next few minutes. You can't judge the value of a ticket for any kind of a draw after the draw has taken place.

It is not that the return for Eller was terrible, but I believe he was on the proverbial list of guys that Therrien (and Bergevin) did not want around because Eller said publicly in 2015-16 that he did not like playing left wing.
My only point about commenting on his contract today is that it is really solid club friendly deal for a good third line centre.
As for Shaw, well I did not like the acquisition and when I heard the contract that Bergevin handed over I liked it even less (Shaw only had three official years of service toward UFA status and thus he had very little leverage but hey certain guys get player friendly deals without even having to dig in during negotiations with Bergevin). Shaw is a good hockey player but he possesses third liner skill level and he is a small body player who plays a heavy game, which should have raised durability red flags.
PTH is right that is not really fair to wait until your trade partner uses the pick and see how the guys they picked develop to evaluate the trade. Also, I am not sure Montreal knew when they traded for Shaw that Radulov was coming so it could be argued that Montreal needed a winger who could plug in on the second line, though if you looked closely at Shaw's skill set and numbers it was pretty apparent that he would not produce at anything more than third liner level.

You can't judge the value of a ticket for any kind of a draw after the draw has taken place. But if we are looking for scoring, Debrincat is exactly who we should have taken. I wouldn’t use him as an example if he weren’t the most likely outcome. We took Wil Bitten a lesser version of Debrincat some 30 picks later.

Boeser out for Vancouver. They won’t likely catch us without his offence.
Eichel out with the dreaded high ankle strain. They are staying below us now for sure.

Yeah, Bergevin's bad luck continues to hold. BergyBust "bad luck" is comparable to pulling out a grenade pin and then saying...."how did I know that shiny ring was attached to grenade?" I use to have a saying....just before I became a gentler, kinder man...."there is no excuse for stupid even if being stupid is legalized".

Chicago down 4-1 to the Yotes after 2...on their way to losing 6 straight....and hitting .500 on the season.
Stan Bowman's "complete failure" PC after last year's sweep to the Preds included this bit:
"But I can promise you we need to be better. Joel is our head coach. He will continue to be our head coach. And Joel and I are going to work together to make sure that this never happens again."
If I was a Hawks' fan, my sig would be: "It happened again. Now what?"
