Chicago down 4-1 to the Yotes after 2...on their way to losing 6 straight....and hitting .500 on the season. Stan Bowman's "complete failure" PC after last year's sweep to the Preds included this bit: "But I can promise you we need to be better. Joel is our head coach. He will continue to be our head coach. And Joel and I are going to work together to make sure that this never happens again."If I was a Hawks' fan, my sig would be: "It happened again. Now what?" This is carbon copy of the Habs a few years ago except this year it is Crawford who went down late December. The hawks haven't gotten anyone to replace him and they let Scott Darling go last summer. They should of maybe tried to make a deal with Montreal and gotten Niemi and hope some of that former magic comes back again.

The Habs implication right now is that second rounder of theirs is starting to look better and better.

I refuse to evaluate deals for picks according to how the guy(s) picked work out, other than draft-day trades when a pick is coming up in the next few minutes. You can't judge the value of a ticket for any kind of a draw after the draw has taken place. But if we are looking for scoring, Debrincat is exactly who we should have taken. I wouldn’t use him as an example if he weren’t the most likely outcome. We took Wil Bitten a lesser version of Debrincat some 30 picks later. You'd have a hard job convincing me that MTL would have selected DeBrincat. It is more likely they would have selected one of Chad Krys, Samuel Girard, Jonathan Dahlen. There has been a blitzkrieg the last few drafts on defensemen and centers. Of the last 17 selections, MTL has selected 10 defensemen, 6 centers and a goalie. I don't see any indication they were going to select a winger.

Bruins are 20-2-4 in their last 26 games. Gerard Gallant has to be the Jack Adams front-runner, but Cassidy is right up there.

The Nucks have their best game of the year, jumping out early and often against very good Boston and winning 6-1. The hapless Sens find the back of the net six times.
Tank Nation salutes those two efforts!
Now, a big WTF goes out to those Oilers. You cannot even score one goal against Arizona? You guys are even worse than us, but how could McDavid not even find a way to generate one goal against the Yotes?
We drop two spots in the standings (or gain more ping pong balls) last night. Could have been more if not for that Orange Crush bunch.
We are in a dog fight of hopelessness to the finish with the Sens, Nucks and Oil. What a mess we have become, but those are all Canadian teams. A lot of Canadian franchises not giving their fans what they deserve right now. One is, but that just makes me barf!!

Common thread is weak ownership. Oil may not have fixed their GM issues as Chiarelli seems to have the same attitude as Bergevin, giving far too much weight to character and ‘cleaning up the locker room’ to the detriment of skill. We know all about Molson and Bergevin and Melnyk is self explanatory. The Leafs were the poster boys of ineptness till they brought in Liewieke who brought in Shanahan who hired Dubas and Hunter. Until it changes at or near the top be ready for disappointment

They've got the centers, but their wingers will leave you wanting. Maroon and Lucic are slow. Super slow. If they had speed, they could keep up with McD to make room for him and another winger. They can't. They're only in the second season of Milan's deal, and they're looking to dump him. Maroon is a pending UFA and on the trade block. Someone will make a mistake with him in July. RNH has had a decent bounce back season. It's not enough to make up for the fact that they moved out Hall for Larsson and sold low on Eberle. Add in that Talbot has come back to Earth and you have all the ingredients.

It's been going on for the better part of a decade. 8 of the past 9 seasons. 2010 - 1st overall - Hall 2011 - 1st overall - Nugent-Hopkins 2012 - 1st overall - Yakupov 2013 - 7th overall - Nurse 2014 - 3rd overall - Draisaitl 2015 - 1st overall - McDavid 2016 - 4th overall - Puljujarvi 2018 - maybe another 1st. In the Top 4, most likely. Attention all Fail-N-Bail shoppers! We're introducing a "Five Top 5 in a Ten Year Period" limit! Please GM responsibly!

Mattias, I agree that Perry and the Ducks crashed the crease repeatedly in that series against Edmonton and the Oilers received little or no help from the officials.
In the Oilers game yesterday against Arizona, I thought the officials probably made the right calls. But maybe the Coyotes goal should not have counted based on many replay judgments this season that erase goals for extremely minimal goalie interference.
Good for the Oilers (I am not sure if Talbot started) bouncing back today and beating Colorado.

I can't remember the last time where there was such a large gap between playoff teams and non playoff teams. We still have 1/4 of the season to go and there are realistically maybe 3 teams fighting for the playoff spot in each division. This year there is a clear list of sellers and buyers. Except there doesn't seem to be many buyers this year.

In the Top 4, most likely. Attention all Fail-N-Bail shoppers! We're introducing a "Five Top 5 in a Ten Year Period" limit! Please GM responsibly! We may be a bit too critical. There was nothing wrong with the Hall pick. The mistake was trading him for a #4 defenseman. #ThanksPete RNH was the consensus top pick in 2011. Landeskog and Huburdeau were next and I'm not sure I'd want either of those guys instead of RNH. With perfect 20/20 hindsight, Scheifele and Couturier have turned out better, but that was totally unpredictable. If you were a gambling man with a crystal ball you would have taken Kucherov instead of letting Tampa take him with their 2nd pick. Again, unpredictable as you'd find with someone in any draft. Yakupov was a terrible pick, in a crappy draft. Nurse and Draisaitl are good picks. McDavid was obvious and don't judge Puljujarvi yet. The kid was improving by leaps and bounds for a period there. Their management of the players after drafting them (with the exception of Yakupov who was just a bust) reminds me of the Habs. Hall is a franchise player and they blamed him for the attitude in the dressing room. (Sound familiar?). He seems to be appreciated in Jersey and is a Hart candidate. For Larsson....I'm still laughing over that one. Terrible trade. #ThanksPete.

Mattias, I agree that Perry and the Ducks crashed the crease repeatedly in that series against Edmonton and the Oilers received little or no help from the officials. As I'm reminding people, this is the 25th anniversary of Gary Bettman's reign of terror as Commissioner of the NHL. Strangely enough, it's been 25 years since a Canadian franchise has won the Stanley Cup. #NotACoincidence

Interesting, I had not thought of that. And almost every warm weather franchise has won at least one Stanley Cup over that period.

Brutal non-call in Toronto ... decided the game ... might be interesting to see if a pattern starts where the Leafs start getting the decisions/calls ... Claude Julien was clearly miffed with the high-sticking call on Joe Morrow tonight ... he should have been ... terrible call ...
Cheers.

RDS has a former official on call for conference calls about key ref decisions, and he said that since there was no hand on the stick, it is considered accidental. I thoroughly disagree, Johnson knew what he was doing, and to me that call was a very bad one.

Interesting night for le tank.
DET NYR had a great result. Detroit won in OT, so both teams get points!
Buffalo won and Vancouver is leading ARI in the second. That is a biggie as we want VAN to pass us.
And then there are those wacky Oilers. A two goal lead with less than 30 seconds should be enough against the Ducks, right? It is off to OT. Oil suck, but at least get the one point and hopefully more. Goofs.
Edit: Oilers with lots of chances in OT, but Ryan Millar stopped them all. McDavid wins it in the SO. Phew.

No goatee though. It's 2018 and Lamoriello still makes his players shave. Really, he does.
